We spent 3 nights here. 2 looking around Mandalay and 1 after a 2 night visit to Pyin Oo Lwin. Our first night was in Room 107 and I hated it, not so much because of the size but because it was so dark. The room had an outdoor shower which was cold water only, so not that inviting and...

Although the hotel is not central the staff more than make up for it. The rooms are small but have all the amenities you might need. As the hotel is boutique the pool, spa and restaurant are all to hand. If you like Indian food this is the place for you.

I adored this charming hotel. The courtyard-type property is in the middle of a neighborhood. Service was excellent. The restaurant was wonderful. Loved having the little courtyard pool to cool off in the heat of the day. This is also where they host the convivial complimentary happy hour. This hotel was a bit of a splurge, but I'm glad we...

The hotel is well presented, impeccably clean, with polite and obliging staff, and the meals are to a high standard. Our tour placed us here twice (2 nights, and then 1 night). Both rooms were slightly on the small side - but well appointed - although the room overlooking the road suffered from early morning noise. The room overlooking the...

The staff were charming, extremely attentive and always had a smile. The room was slightly on the small size, but had all the amenities and a delightful outside seating area overlooking a mini waterfall. The Spice garden restaurant was very good with a huge variety of Indian, Myanmar and European dishes. The only minor criticism is that if you are...

Set in pleasant enclosed gardens this hotel had a lovely atmosphere. Tea was served on a balcony overlooking the pool and every evening guests were invited to Happy Hour around the pool when a drink of the day was served with nibbles. The food in the restaurant was excellent and seemed to be popular with people who were not staying...

What do you want from a hotel? How about a bed which you can get into without vaulting over your partner or moving all the furniture to get circulation space? How about recharge points in the room? How about a bathtub which you don't have to climb over an 8inch (20 cms) rim to get in? The list goes on....

We stayed here on our first night in Myanmar, and it got us off to a good start. A very charming characterful hotel in the quiet back streets. Real local life. Very helpful and gracious staff. We had a lovely indian meal overlooking the pool (lots of other things to choose if you don't like Indian food). In fact it...

360USD per night for a 12sqm noisy room, really? We took a "wedding package" which was supposed to have 75min couple massage per day + sparkling wine. We ended up with a standard bottle of red wine + one massage only as they argued it was not for each day. Room was extremely noisy also. People are nice but luxury...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
An oasis by the landmark Red Canal in local folklore just minutes from the famed Mandalay Palace and other attractions, The Hotel by the Red Canal is a convenient sanctuary, with its lush tropical greenery and calming water features, amidst the hustle and bustle of Myanmar's cultural city. “By choosing to stay with us, we will provide you with the extra measure of quality, comfort and personal convenience that you are looking for. Being small, we are able to provide personal attention to the needs, wants, and expectations of every guest.” The boutique-style hotel is a celebration of all things Myanmar, featuring teak furniture and fixtures & fittings made from rattan, mother-of-pearl and other local materials as well as Myanmar marble lining the bathroom walls. Each of the 4 types of guestrooms or customized suites, differentiated by individual style, bears the name of the major ethnic groups in multi-cultural Myanmar and is adorned with rich traditional paraphernalia and trappings reflecting their respective cultural heritage. All Chin and Shan suites feature a balcony overlooking the swimming pool and garden green. Ground floor Chin suites enjoy a “water moat”. The Rakhine suites are spacious and ideal for the business traveler. An outdoor shower with a slate wall of cascading water is the highlight of the honeymooner Kachin suites. ... more   less
