I came across Café de Laos by accident and simply fell in love with it. They have regional sources, super professional staff who knows their coffee business and you can choose from a diverse coffee menu. The cookies are also worth mentioning. Thanks Chris.

It was our first time visiting Luang Prabang. And we chose “Cafe de Laos” as our accommodation because of the location and great review from other travellers as well. First impression was great, friendly staff, Kham and Year (another lady staff who work in the afternoon, sorry I dont remember her name) were awesome, helpful and nice. We had breakfast at the sister hotel, Burasari Heritage where provided very professional service. Thank you and of course I will be back.

We stayed in this hotel ( more like a b&b in that there are only 5 rooms.) The location is perfect for the morning alms ceremony although this can get a little noisy from 6am time ( we had a room facing the main Street where the monks pass by).The coffee shop downstairs serves some of the best coffee I've had anywhere.

Dear Bridget F, Thank you for your lovely feedback. I am happy to hear you enjoyed your stay! We are in fact on the main street in historic Luang Prabang, with "front row" seat to the alms ceremony. Thank you too for mentioning Cafe de Laos, We serve all locally-grown Lao coffee, including the only spot in town for siphon coffee. Thank you again, and look forward to your return visit. Kind regards, Darisa "Lisa" Tansiri General Manager

The guest house is very small, so the atmosphere is really like at home. The room was small, dark, but very clean. Unfortunately you can hear every word from the neighbour room. Staff is very friendly. Breakfast is not much, but tasty. For the price is really good, I can recommend it. Location is also perfect. And the coffee, that you can buy in the shop under the guest house is simply delicious.

To ease us into Luang Prabang we opted for a one night stay in a simple room above the best coffee in town. The price reflects the simplicity yet, knowing the inn is part of the upmarket Burasari group, we knew our needs would be met. Great spot, excellent location and wonderful value. Thanks, will stay longer next time.

Wonderful little cafe, we loved it so much we decided to return to it more than once. We came here a few times for the calm atmosphere and good coffee mostly to read books (history/philosophy) This is not about the cafe however, but one personage called “Alice” who claimed to be friend of the owner, who acted a little strangely and made us feel quite unwelcome. When we came in on Saturday afternoon, June 23, there was a family at one table and “Alice” at another, the cafe was basically full of free space. The family of about 5 people left approximately 15 min after we arrived, while exiting they said goodbye to “Alice” and also apologized to her for “disturbing her.” It was strange considering that this is a public cafe and not a private apartment. But this detail became clear to us a bit later. You see, unlike the previous times the music which was playing wasn’t the soft, unobtrusive jazz and such from the previous times. You know the normal calm background you often hear in coffee places. It was lyrics heavy with lots of rising and falling notes, load singing, demanding attention and making difficult to concentrate on our reading. Bar music? So we politely requested from the waitress (having no idea it was Alice in control of the music) to lower the music a little bit. After she did, we noticed the volume became even higher than before after a few minutes. We were puzzled but we began suspecting that someone else was in control of the music. So this time we decided to consult with the only other remaining “guest” whether it would be ok to turn off the music. When asked “Alice” confessed that it was indeed her controlling the music and began lecturing us about her high education credentials and how she can “help us” concentrate more effectively and proceeded to tell us some odd facts about her home in the country with grasshoppers and snakes and no music and how we are invited to go there, whereas here this is a cafe and many conversations and people are usually in a cafe and we shouldn’t request such ridiculous things. She also mentioned that she is an important person “de honour” and something about how we “shouldn’t be afraid.” (We weren’t planning on it) This wasn’t entirely the response we expected as the whole reason we asked was to be polite and maybe find a compromise with the volume, not to be lectured or made aware of the high rank of such important people who inhabit the cafes in this town. After a while “Alice” got up and turned off the music entirely saying “You win.” She came back 20 minutes later and resumed playing the music at a high volume again. She continued raising and lowering the volume, presumably for songs she favored more or less, etc until we left. Wonderful cafe, but beware of certain pompous personages that treat it like their personal living room, without regard to other visitors, and be prepared to hear their resume and about snakes around their home if you dare speak up.

Responded 24 Jun 2018
Dear Neil A, Please accept our sincerest apologies for your experience. First, please know that "Alice" is not a friend of our owner and is in no way affiliated with our establishment. She is an elderly guest who comes to the cafe daily as a guest. We have tried our best to explain to "Alice" that she should not disturb our other guests or interfere with our guest service. Our F&B Director, Sales Director and myself, as General Manager, have all tried to speak to her and explain that her behavior disrupts our cafe's ambiance and our overall guest experience. While she appears to understand, "Alice" keeps returning. Your feedback simply helps us step up our efforts to maintain the ambiance of our tranquil little cafe. As you mentioned, we have a wonderful space, and we would like to maintain this spirit. Again, I apologise, and we will ensure that no one disturbs our guests. Kind regards, Darisa "Lisa" Tansiri General Manager

Beautifully designed rooms in keeping with the heritage decor of the UNESCO site. Vintage items scattered throughout this property give it a relaxed cosy feeling. Select from one of only five rooms. The cafe downstairs is amazing!!! The coffee is delicious!

The Chang Inn is situated on the Main Street, but thankfully on a quieter part just a few meters away from the main shops and restaurants. The staff from the luxurious sister hotel Burasari Heritage Hotel help you check in and they can arrange further trips in the region, very helpful. The bed was comfortable and the decor of the place lovely, but the room and especially the bathroom were tiny. We thought it was ok for the price you pay. We had room number 4, which looks right out on the side of the Main Street. Although it did not disturb us much, it was quite nosy at night, as there were always motorcycles passing by. In the morning you wake up early hearing the preparations for the monk procession (due to the beneath roof, unfortunately you can’t see anything out of your room window). We did not need breakfast as there are tons of food options in the area (yummy local noodle soups or amazing French pastries). We did splurge on one spa treatment at the Burasari Heritage Spa, and it was well worth it. Excellent service and one of the best massages we ever had. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and loved Luang Prabang!

Was looking forward to staying here but it was really a mixed bag. The staff are very nice and the rooms are clean. On the other side we were not offered any tea or coffee, odd for a coffee restaurant, more so as it is one of the most expensive places to even have a cup of coffee in LP. The hotel is not cheap - you would think even a discount or a free one could be on offer at that lodging price. The internet drops in and out. And for the lodging price - the bathroom could do with a tidy up - small lick of paint and renovate. Mixed bag and for the price could do better.

Dear Ary L, Thank you for your feedback and your suggestions. You are correct in saying that it would be hospitable for us to offer a complimentary cup of coffee, particularly since Cafe De Laos is one of the most distinctive coffeehouses in Luang Prabang. We are taking this into review and thank you for taking time to offer your suggestions to improve our service and lodging. Kind regards, Darisa "Lisa" Tansiri General Manager
