We stayed here for four nights and found this to be an exceptionally good hotel. Staff all very friendly and welcoming. There were a few minor issues with our room on the first night but we were quickly offered an upgrade. Food is excellent and general ambience very relaxing and luxurious. It has a lovely pool. You can easily walk,...

This is a lovely hotel with a beautiful pool and very helpful staff. There are some downsides however. We arrived in the early evening and just as we had started unpacking with stuff all over the beds the turndown team appeared. We asked them to return later but this did not happen. The room is very nice but gloomy with...

Yes, oftentimes the most expensive properties can be in the poorest places on earth. There is a reason for that. It's expensive to create a luxurious atmosphere in the middle of a jungle. Look at Four Seasons Tent Camp at Chiang Rai, Dara Dhevi (formerly Mandarin Oriental) Chiang Mai etc. First off: the staff are excellent. A true display of...

This hotel is extremely luxurious, the rooms are very spacious with a separate outside lounge area and large bathroom. The hotel is generous with the free coffee, tea and water. I agree with what others have said about the great views but also the noisy dog which can keep you awake at night ( I had ear plugs so it...

I loved my stay at La Residence. The place is elegant and peaceful. The fishpond and shaded courtyard is relaxing. Food served here is delicious. Breakfast, along with the view, is wonderful. Staff is eager to please.

The infinity pool looks like a lagoon and out looks the stupa across on a hill. The rooms are spacious and have an extra outdoor lounging area that over looks the stupa if you are in the right room, which we were. Mosquito netting is put down for you at night. The open view restaurant provided a great music and...

Belmond is a wonderful peaceful oasis just outside the busy part of Luang Prabang with fantastic views of the lovely hills. Bedroom and bathroom are spacious and included a lovely private balcony. As we celebrated our anniversary while there we had the 500 Candles dinner - definitely worth it! Staff were friendly and the service was excellent. The hotel provides...

We had a really nice time at Phou Vao. The hotel is really nice and the staff very friendly. We had room 501 which has the best view. Very good food. The spa experience was nice but not extraordinary. You have to rely on the hotel shuttle to take you to and back from central town which is not as...

As soon as you walk through the doors, you feel at peace! Stunning hotel, beautiful views from rooms and terrace. Lovely pool. Good spa. Great excursions with lovely guides. (We did Mekong cave trip, waterfalls & alms giving, I recommend all 3) We used the hotel bikes to get around the wonderful small town of Luang Prabang

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Positioned atop a hill, gazing across the sacred mountains, Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao is an unforgettable place to stay. Its calm, tranquil ambiance echoes that of sleepy World Heritage town of Luang Prabang - former royal capital of Laos - spread out below. Designed in a traditional style, this intimate hotel is gemmed with teak, silk and fresh cotton accents. The hotel's Phou Savanh restaurant is famed for its wonderful French-influenced local cuisine while Doc Champa bar offers guests a range of Laotian and classic cocktails. The award-winning Mekong Spa blends ancient techniques with modern understanding to ensure complete indulgence and well-being and is the first luxury spa in Luang Prabang, Laos. Furthermore the hotel offers a gym, boutique, tours & excursion desk, meeting room and organic garden with cooking class area. The hotel's 34 suites are elegantly furnished with emphasis on local styles and materials. The combination of parquet and traditional Lao textiles creates an immediate sense of peace and space in all suites. Large windows provide plenty of natural light and open onto the exotic gardens. A conveniently arranged terrace offers privacy, comfort and tranquility. ... more   less
