This was an interesting experience. Set on the Mekong river and next to two small villages, the place has potential, but we went away thinking that more of an effort could be made considering the price we paid. We were the only guests and stayed for 2 nights, the children were excited about the announced "activities". However, the half-day hike...

We rode long boats up the Mekong from Luang Prabang over 4 days, stopping at 4 villages. The best was the stay at Kamu Lodge and visit to Kamu Village that we booked through Villa Maly hotel in Luang Prabang. In March there is little farming, so every adult was engaged in some building, creating, repairing activity. The Villa Maly...

We visited and stayed at Kamu Lodge as part of a Luang Say trip to Huay Xai. There is a lot of information in other reviews about the lodge, which we liked. We also found the activities interesting (particularly rice planting!). When you travel in Laos there are lots of opportunities to visit villages and see what village life is...

I visited the Kamu Lodge Experience as the final stage of a 'voluntour' trip to Laos and it is truly a remarkable place, we arrived by boat after travelling along the Mekong river and were welcomed to the resort. I use the term resort loosely as it is little more then tents and wooden thatched roof buildings in the middle...

Everything was really good.. we had such fun and an interesting experience. Loved the beautiful gardens, rice fields, visiting the village and farm. 2 things.. the menus need updating with correct prices and for an eco village, having flushing toilets is a no no, composting toilets is the way to go. Thanks

We enjoyed everything about the entire experience. The boat trip up river begins the relaxation process and by the time you arrive, see the tents, setting amidst the rice paddies, and have lunch you feel like you are really on vacation. We stayed two nights, which I recommend if you can take the time. The first day was an opportunity...

If you are looking for a unique experience, this is it! After traveling down the Mekong for two days our stay at Kamu Lodge was the highlight of our experience. The local village people met us at the dock to assist us with our luggage. Their village is just a short walk over a footbridge and worth every moment to...

Let me start by saying this is glamping, not a high-end hotel. Everything is run by solar power, which means that if it’s cloudy…the shower will be cold and the only light you’ll have in your room is a flashlight. You’ll be completely off the grid here with no wifi and cell service or ability to charge your devices. If...

We stayed here as part of a wonderful 3 day cruise down the Mekong from north Thailand into Laos. This is a fascinating eco-tourist resort that seems to have a strong ethical relationship with the neighbouring village, providing various employments for the local people and paying the village when tourists visit. Lovely setting and attentive staff. Accommodation consists of large...

We arrived around lunchtime after a river boat trip up the Mekong, and were met by Oliver, the very charismatic and warm General Manager. You are accomodated in new and really comfortable and grand tents, which rely only on solar power. We were very privileged to be the only guests that day, and we were royally looked after. Oliver is...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Sitting along the Mekong River, Kamu Lodge offers the unique opportunity to experience slow travel with accommodation in our spacious "African Safari" tents, each with a private balcony and thatched roofs. Our tents provide all necessary comforts and great river views. Using only solar power energy at the lodge, rooms have lights, fans and each has an en-suite private bathroom with shower facilities. The experience includes boat transfers to and from Luang Prabang. Step back in time visiting and getting to know the people from the neighboring Kamu Ethnic Minority Village. Activities include the chance to learn traditional crafts from the Kamu people of net fishing, gold panning and to learn with a "hands on" opportunity of rice planting and harvesting. We also offer traditional massages that complement the experience. Enjoy al fresco dining at the lodge's rustic restaurant in the middle of the rice fields. We serve Lao specialties, offering lunch, dinner and breakfast included in the package. There is also a well-stocked bar, offering a delicious selection of drinks and refreshments. Kamu Lodge is in Yoi Hai Village, a 2.5-hour boat ride from Luang Prabang, tour includes a stop at the revered Pak Ou Caves. The 2 day 1 night package departs Luang Prabang daily at 9.00am, returning the following day before 4pm ... more   less
