Symoungkoun Guesthouse is located along the mainstreet of Sisavangvong. It has 6 rooms right in the city and near to amenities such as banks/ATMs, restaurants/pubs, spa/massage, internet cafe, tourist office & tour agencies. Other famous attractions such Royal Palace Museum, Phousi Hill, Night market and a dozen of temples are all within walking distance. Every morning there are not less that 500 novices/monks walk past this guesthouse for the traditional alms giving, unique in Luangprabang.
Really disappointed with the guesthouse, information provide on the website does not even match. We had a bad experienced on arrival, we were greeted by a girl and the only word she know was NO, as we tired to show her we had a reservation for 4 nights and she still said NO, with her face telling us you are not welcome. Finally she showed us a room but we had reservations , room with twin bed and rectulantly, she show us a room upstairs. Room with no amenities, even a towel is no included leave alone coffee and tea. Again we asked about wifi as it is stated in the website room with wifi, than she called (don't know who he is who could speak some English) and said they don't have wifi as some technical issues, but every other shops along the street has wifi. Secondly it is quite frightening as you do not know who comes, water leaking in the bathroom, etc even though we paid for 4 nights but after the 2nd night we checked.…

Stayed here for 2 nights with my partner Nothing wrong with the room however wasn't cleaned throughout our stay The rooms are basic (we had a fan room) However walls are paper thin and have a glass panel close to the ceiling meaning if next door turns a light on throughout the night your room lights up too Free coffee during your stay is a welcome bonus. That being said the guy at reception was useless! Didn't have a clue of room prices or availability when we asked to extend then quoted $5 more than advertised via trip advisor The guesthouse is around 1km from the night market and was an easy walk, those with mobility issues should consider this though Overall nothing drastically wrong but wouldn't stay again

We had a twin room which was very clean and came with air con and a private bathroom. We had no window but it was spacious and we didn't mind. It was a good location to everything. The staff speak very little English. Be careful as we were charged double on arrival. However, we did get this back after trying to explain to them- they were relucant at first.

We stayed in a private twin room with AC and an ensuite bathroom. The guest house was easy to find. The taxi driver from the airport knew where it was and its was 50,000 kip ($7 USD) to get there. The place is super clean and the AC worked very well. We even liked it so much we booked another night. 5 min walk to the start of the night market. 1 min walk to the river. Great all around location and experience.

The Guest House was just fully renovated when we checked in so everything is new. As with other guest houses in Luang Prabang, it was renovated from an old colonial building into a guest house. In fact, an extension for a deck by the side of the house was being built. The place is well maintained, Wifi is good. There is no official breakfast provided but the manager and his friends offer to make coffee, tea and provided biscuit for breakfast. Coffee was good. They were friendly and helpful. Not only provided direction when we need them but helped us to rent bikes, even suggested a new route back into Thailand and help secure tickets. Manager spoke good English. Location is great, walking distant to famous temples, lots of other guest houses, shops and restaurants within walking distant, we walked to the night market daily. In fact, there is a big temple just opposite the Guest House. All we have to do is open our windows and we can see the daily morning Alms Giving ceremony.…

Stayed here for 6 nights in February. Very relaxed location a little down the road from the busy centre. Room was clean and spacious. Good free wifi and unlimited tea and coffee which was a bonus. Breakfast was also good, loved the homemade pineapple jam. Bathroom does need a bit of work, however it was clean. Staff were very helpful and always happy. We felt that overall the price was a little too much, but as it was during the new year celebrations and town was busy I assume the hotels would naturally increase their prices. I would visit again.

Symoungkoun GH, situated in the old town, has just reopened under new management and has had a facelift. It has been a pleasure to stay here from start to finish, so much so that we extended our stay twice! The rooms are basic but clean. A/C, no TV. Beds are comfortable and not the typical hard Lao bed. The bathroom has a good shower, we didn't experience any problems with water pressure but the shower does seem to spit hot water for a second or two after switching it off. Rooms are cleaned daily, and fresh water and toiletries are supplied. There is also free tea and coffee in reception. Wifi is about as good as you'll get in Luang Prabang or indeed Laos. Very stable for the most part with blips in bad weather. The staff are lovely and do everything they can to help you but some things are lost in translation. Overall Symoungkoun GH is a great base to explore LPB, there is a temple just across the street where you can watch the monks receive alms at 6am and it is just a short walk to the many other wonderful temples such as Wat Sene and Wat Xieng Thong. It's a 5 min stroll to the Royal Palace and Mount Phousi. There is also a French bakery, Le Banneton, 2 doors down, where you can grab breakfast. I would highly recommend Symoungkoun GH and would stay here again. …

I need to admit that the first impression was not good. The check-in was not smooth, staff at that moment even did not know how to connect to WiFi. However room was great, several windows, big comfortable bed and clean bathroom. The guesthouse is in the main street of the city, however at the end of it, just opposite to Wat Xieng Tong (the most famous temple), which is good because it is very quiet. The main section of the street is always crowded and has a night market, but where this place is you just find temples and nice restaurants/shops (a bit up-scale though). It is a great pleasure to have a walk at night in the temples with no tourists, noise or souvenir stalls around! The last day I was a bit worried because of an early checkout to take a bus back to Vientiane, but the manager did a good job cooking breakfast for me and arranging a transportation to the station. Would come back here again!…

We booked via booking.com (not Agoda) and had no issues, there was a record of our booking once we arrived. Family room with temple view is what we booked, and what we got. Shower was ok, temperature was all over the place which made the experience "interesting". Standard SE Asia wet room rather than a separate shower. Beds comfortable and clean. Staff friendly. Good location in Luang Prabang. Wifi works fine in the rooms. Temple across the road wakes up at 4am every morning, you will be waking up with them because of the music played by the monks for approx 15 mins, which was a unique experience but tired us out over the days as we were gradually less and less rested.

After booking a room via Priceline/Agoda, when attempting to check-in the owner showed me a small, widow-less, ground floor room that it appears was being used as a staff apartment. Explaining that if this room was unacceptable he had another property, I accepted a ride well-outside of town to another hotel. While this hotel was perfectly fine for the price, the fact that I was able to book inventory that clearly didn't exist I take as a signal that the owner is using his well-located property to re-direct guests to his second property on the outskirts of Luang Prabang. Pretty scammy move -- I would not re-book here given my experience.
