The place is amazing, and the rooms were cozy, I loved the courtyard despite the fact that no one bothered to clean the dust. I liked the way the rooms were uniquely designed. But the prices were really high. The service was not very good, I asked for ironing board they got me a broken one then I asked for...

There are not many heritage hotels in Dubai. Dubai is mostly a shopping and business destination gradually transforming into a tourist destination with its glitz and glamour all around. Somewhere of course the heritage of the country gets overshadowed by its modern packaging. So finding a heritage hotel might be difficult as there are just a few. Most are more...

A very special low key creative environment. Each room is specific and special. The courtyard doubles as cafe and meeting space. The food is mostly vegetarian and delicious. A wonderfully different hotel experience with real local texture as compared to the kind of service and experience one has with a big chain hotel. An additional bonus is the XVA Gallery,...

Our daughter, who lives in Abu Dhabi with her husband, found this gem while searching for a place for us all to stay in Dubai for a night. It is away from the glitz of Dubai in the historic Al Fahidi area, which definitely leads to its charm. It is a beautiful, peaceful setting with courtyards outside the rooms. The...

XVA Art Hotel is in old Dubai which is a pleasant change from the contemporary, bustling parts of Dubai. We had a large, well appointed room. Breakfast was delicious and the service was wonderful. Everyone was ready to help out with suggestions and advice.

If you like to reminisce about days long past, the XVA Art Hotel is the best you can experience in Dubai. It made my trip to a city otherwise only known for its glamour. The neighborhood as well as nearby Dubai Museum round off the experience. Adding some non-vegetarian items to the menu in the hotel's restaurant wouldn't hurt, though.

What a fabulous place! Absolutely beautiful from the front door and beyond. Staff were helpful and courteous. Room was stunning (I had room 3, Kitsch Room which couldn't have been better suited to my own personal taste, not that that's helpful to anyone else mind). The location is brilliant - right in the heart of the Al Fahidi old town...

This was a very relaxing place to stay - hospitality was excellent and the food was amazing. Our room was lovely with good facilities and there is a roof terrace with loungers for a bit of quiet time. It is in a pedestrian area so you must be able to walk a little with your luggage. Taxis stop nearby and...

Great place to stay to experience old Dubai. Great location and staff. Close to the old fort and river and with transport close by this is the place to stay. Bong and the staff were very welcoming and helpful especially after we left our camera in the hotel. We like breakfast and also the mint punch certainly was refreshing. Cant...

Staying in The Creek

Neighbourhood Profile
The Creek
The smell of frankincense hangs thick and heavy in the air, waves lap gently at jetties, and market traders call to passing tourists. The creek, originally the place where pearl boats docked and left on missions to uncover jewels from the deep, is where the city really began. The Al Fahidi District on the Creekside is one of the oldest heritage sites in Dubai, easily recognizable with its iconic wind towers, the original air conditioning. Home to the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding and the Dubai Museum, the old buildings also house a range of cafes, shops and art galleries. Often called “the real Dubai,” this is a wonderful place to lose yourself before catching an abra across the creek to the spice souk, where your senses will be overwhelmed with tastes, smells, and sounds.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A stylish and peaceful boutique hotel, XVA is set within the heart of Al Fahidi quarter, formerly known as Bastakiya, the oldest region of Dubai. Unique for its Persian architectural heritage, its maze-like alleyways and proximity to the Creek, Al Fahidi is viewed today as one of the cultural centrepoints of Dubai. XVA occupies a renovated traditional majilis-style building, boasting original architectural motifs and wind towers and three open courtyards, in which one can relax and soak up the exceptional atmosphere of this heritage space. XVA’s Art Hotel includes twelve boutique rooms, designed by well-established designers and artists from the region. These include Zayan Ghandour, Numa, Nada Debs & Karim Rashid (Gaia&Gino). The XVA Art Hotel is covered in many national and international travel publications. Featured in Condé Nast Traveller as one of the 10 hotels to stay in Dubai and in 2006 as the number 1 “Not To Miss” spot in Dubai, Wallpaper magazine mentioned us as a boutique hotel to stay. Lonely planet listed us twice in their recent Dubai guide as a place to stay and to have lunch. “All rooms are generally very good, but dont go to the one upstairs which is meant for Art groups. They offer this room when the hotel seems is sold out, at a slighly discounted rate. The catch is that it has a shared toilet, room with no TV, no phone and just quite boring. You will not want to have such a room when you are on a holiday.”
