I loved my stay in the hotel - it is a peaceful oasis and refuge from the madnes of Dubai. The location is great, rooms very comfortable, food delicious and staff very friendly and helpful. I also appreciated the history of the building and the location - I actually felt like I as staying in an arab country, rather than...

I stayed here for one night as part of a stopover flying from Australia back to the UK. My flight landed at 05:30 and arriving at the hotel at 07:00 in the morning was not a problem. My room was ready and waiting. I had booked a single room (number 4), but shortly after arriving in there was a small...

Wonderful place to stay! The architecture and history of the building was really interesting. It was clean, friendly, safe, in a good location and quiet. You must try the mint lemonade at the café..... It's wonderful! Highly recommended.

The taxi couldn't find the hotel. When eventually located we had to walk about 200 metres with our bags in tow, to the front door of the hotel, in the intense heat. Warm welcome and nice fruitbowl in the room. We had this for breakfast. Disappointed with the size of the room. Could hardly move. Comfortable beds and pillows. The...

It feels totally different from the rest of Dubai. I guess it isn't authentical, but it is a really good copy of an old arabic guest house. Really beautiful and quiet, good food, kind and professional staff. Really recomended.

This hotel is off center but in a kind of"historical"district, a welcome change from the all metal all glass of the other parts of this very young city. Fresh fruits at breakfast, incentively designed rooms, very kind personnel.

We recently enjoyed four nights at XVA. It is a small traditional Arab villa with cool courtyards and lovely rooms, which come with local works of art. We went in August, which is stupid hot, but the air conditioning was top notch. The location is good for the Dubai museum, the Gold, Textile and Spice souks and the Creek. As...

a charming small courtyard hotel, in the midst of old riverside town of Dubai. We stopped for only 1 day/night to break our journey from US to Australia and it was wonderful place to rest and walk in the historic quarter. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Staying in The Creek

Neighbourhood Profile
The Creek
The smell of frankincense hangs thick and heavy in the air, waves lap gently at jetties, and market traders call to passing tourists. The creek, originally the place where pearl boats docked and left on missions to uncover jewels from the deep, is where the city really began. The Al Fahidi District on the Creekside is one of the oldest heritage sites in Dubai, easily recognizable with its iconic wind towers, the original air conditioning. Home to the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding and the Dubai Museum, the old buildings also house a range of cafes, shops and art galleries. Often called “the real Dubai,” this is a wonderful place to lose yourself before catching an abra across the creek to the spice souk, where your senses will be overwhelmed with tastes, smells, and sounds.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A stylish and peaceful boutique hotel, XVA is set within the heart of Al Fahidi quarter, formerly known as Bastakiya, the oldest region of Dubai. Unique for its Persian architectural heritage, its maze-like alleyways and proximity to the Creek, Al Fahidi is viewed today as one of the cultural centrepoints of Dubai. XVA occupies a renovated traditional majilis-style building, boasting original architectural motifs and wind towers and three open courtyards, in which one can relax and soak up the exceptional atmosphere of this heritage space. XVA’s Art Hotel includes twelve boutique rooms, designed by well-established designers and artists from the region. These include Zayan Ghandour, Numa, Nada Debs & Karim Rashid (Gaia&Gino). The XVA Art Hotel is covered in many national and international travel publications. Featured in Condé Nast Traveller as one of the 10 hotels to stay in Dubai and in 2006 as the number 1 “Not To Miss” spot in Dubai, Wallpaper magazine mentioned us as a boutique hotel to stay. Lonely planet listed us twice in their recent Dubai guide as a place to stay and to have lunch. “All rooms are generally very good, but dont go to the one upstairs which is meant for Art groups. They offer this room when the hotel seems is sold out, at a slighly discounted rate. The catch is that it has a shared toilet, room with no TV, no phone and just quite boring. You will not want to have such a room when you are on a holiday.”
