Forget about the rooms (pretty basic but comfortable) and the food (simple, to be generous). The Hacienda is all about its rich history that dates back to the 16th century. It should be a museum, because it's stocked with artwork that should be in a museum, books from the 17th century on the shelves, and original timber frame construction and...

If you are arriving in Potosi by train (like I did ) or by bus, the Hacienda can pre-arrange for you to meet up with a charming lady (Maria Louisa) in a central Potosi office. Maria Louisa acts for the Hacienda as a meet and greet person in Potosi, and arranges a safe ( and cheap) taxi for the 30...

Great place to stop for a night. You stay in a 500 year old Estancia with lots of history. Our room was large with a big comfortable bed. The room was clean and the staff very nice. The Hotel is 15 km outside of Potosi and about 12 km off the Highway on a stone paved road, but well worth...

This is a genuine, very old hacienda, around 20 km out of Potosi and well down a minor side road off the main highway. It helps enormously to have your own car to get here, but you could also do it by taxi. The hacienda dates from 1575 and the whole place has a truly wonderful sense of history. The...

The Hacienda de Cayara is certainly the place to stay in the Potosi area. A few kilometers from Potosi proper, it offers both comfortable and elegant rooms in a historic treasure of a home. The host, Arturo Leyton, is a gracious and sophisticated gentleman, one who appreciates the amazing history of his family's home, and a wonderful resource for touring...

Stayed one night in this place. The rooms are rustic and have a log burner in some of them, the bathrooms are quite spacious and clean. The service was very good. We were the only guests and it seemed one man (David) did everything, reception, waiter, porter. He was very pleasant and efficient. The diner was good, they had really...

Set dinner and breakfast are simple but tasty. No WIFI out here in the boonies. Go...

Cayara is remote and very individual! To avoid repetition, we agree with all the comments about the museum and the objects and manuscripts on display. This more than compensates the rather compact and basic accommodation. Difficult to ascertain what was on the menu each night, no choice but not an issue; the meal was welcome. Great walking and wandering in...

If you love history, you'll love the Hacienda de Cayara - it's personal and world history all jumbled together in an amazingly eclectic range of objects spanning literally centuries. It's not a museum, it's a living, breathing organism. Arturo spent time with us, explaining about silver shoes, 17th century clothes, Turkish alabaster crosses, armour and swords and a ceiling painted...
