I have been staying at the Dew Drop Inn for probably the last 30 years or so. I still try to make it up every year even after my grandmother passed away in 2014. I stayed at the motel so I wouldn't have to inconvenience my grandmother.

Love the clean comfortable rooms and the friendly staff. I also like the fact that it's inexpensive compared to other motels in the area. I look forward to every visit I have up there.

Only needed one night here and booked over the phone based on fellow tripadvisor contributors. I was not disappointed. Front desk very pleasant and helpful, room was spotless and cost was half of the 'Inn' down the street, but I didn't need all the extras that the large chains offered.

All of the larger chains had no vacancies so we reluctantly drove to the Dew Drop Inn..... imagine our surprise. Quaint, clean, adorable, very friendly owners, classic motel ambience... Great rate plus Direct TV and wireless. The only negative was the wireless internet didn't have a strong enough signal to connect while we were there but it shouldn't affect your decision to stay. All rooms are strictly non smoking and this was a plus for us!

Pro: Reasonable rates, AAA discount, VERY clean, very quiet (with the doors and windows shut)

Con: Strange placement of A/C and light switch, cinder block walls feel institutional, SMALL shower that one needs to beware of abrupt temperature changes due to human error.

I stayed in a full-size bed room. The room smelled clean when I entered, and I wasn't disappointed. The room was very clean, no stains, no dust.

The ceilings are a cherry stained planking, and the walls are... white painted cinder block. Interesting- but then I guess it is great for keeping sound out of your room. Maybe this is what hindered other people's internet service here.

The bathroom is small, and this is where the A/C wall unit is. Since it was nice outside, I wanted to open the window to get a nice cross breeze, but there was no screen. Oh well. I took a shower in the smallest shower I have ever seen. I think I have seen bigger caskets. And the dark blue shower curtain didn't help the feeling, since there is no light in the shower. Another problem in the shower- the adjustment handle. When I backed up in the shower (the faucet is pretty low if you're tall) I accidentally hit it to one side. Scalded. One minute of freezing trying to adjust it... then halfway through rinsing my hair, bumped it again and froze. Good times...

Another interesting feature is there is no bedside lamp or nightstand, but there is a lamp above the bed. The light switch is in the middle of the wall at the head of the bed. Like 2 inches above the pillows. As I type this, I have accidentally bumped it twice, turning off the light. I hope I don't bump it in the middle of the night, turning it on.

Needing a place to stay while passing thru Alpena we pulled in to the Dew Drop Inn. Not from the area we were unsure where to stay so we pulled into the first motel that looked decent. The owner was friendly and the bill for a queen non-smoking was painless( <$50). The grounds were well maintained and once inside our room I was impressed with the love and pride the owners have taken with their property. The room was the basic motel room but it was spotless clean and well maintained. Even though we were the second room from M-23 we never heard any traffic or noise from our neighbors. Several restaurants are also nearby for dining options. A nice bonus was the hundreds of TV channels that were offered. The only complaint I could make was I found the bed too hard.and that's just a matter of personal preference. We don't pass thru Alpena very often but I'd have no reservations about staying here again.

Best $45 (AAA rate) I ever spent on a motel room! The room was spotless, including the bathroom. It appeared to be freshly remodeled, with new paint and all new fixtures and flooring in the bathroom. My only complaint was the bed, which appeared to be full size - not quite large enough for 2 adults. There was plenty of room for a queen. Other than than, it was one of the cleanest rooms I have every stayed in. The staff was also pleasant.

I had to overnight in Alpena, MI and the hotels were outrageous in there pricing. I found this little motel just north of downtown. I was pleasantly surprised to find the rate for a single room was only $45.00 the room was vewry clean and cozy. The owners were very nice and accomadating. The motel is AAA approved as well.

We were passing through Alpena and just looking for a comfortable bed for the night. The Dew Drop Inn was perfect. I think we paid a little over $50 (with AAA) for a very comfortable, very clean room. Sometimes budget motels can be a little depressing - not this one. It was bright and cheery. There was a nice little fridge, direct tv, and WiFi. The bed was good, the bathroom small but very nice. There was soap but no shampoo or any other cosmetic and no hair dryer - bring your own if you need these things.

Spotless accommodation in a classic motel. Cheerful hosts. Value could not be better. A bit far out of "downtown Alpena" if you are walking. (We were traveling on our motorbikes and prefer to walk to dinner.)

I'd recommend this place all day long. I travel all over Michigan and have around 15 locally owned "old-style" motels that I stay in on a regular basis, and this place is most definitely on the list. I love these little motels and try to support them as much as possible. They're a dying breed. Think of it this way, these are FAMILY OWNED businesses, not big corporations and the good folks that own them (most of the time) take great pride in keeping the business thriving. Same with the Dew Drop Inn. I'm in Alpena at least twice a year and always stay here, it's quaint, well-kept, reasonably priced, very nice owners. Sure, if you're traveling with your kids and need a place with a swimming pool and four-star restaurant inside, this may not be the choice. But if you're looking for a nice clean comfortable, homey place to stay for a night or three, give this place a try. Seriously!
