The room was nice and the price reasonable. The service not good. Do not leave anything in your room when you leave that you want back because you will not get it back. I left my phone charger in the room I stayed in, which I know is not real valuable, but I know I left it there or it would have been in my night bag. When I called about it, I was told it was not found. The housekeeper has worked there 7 years and has never taken anything. Hmm??? I think I will find another place to stay the next time I stay in that area.

My husband and I stayed at 40 Winks for a long weekend over the Fourth of July, and chose 40 Winks based on the good reviews here. We were not disappointed! We booked a suite and were completely satisfied. It was clean and comfortable, recently updated and nicely decorated. We loved having the kitchen, which saved money on dining out. We really enjoyed being right across the street from the beautiful Starlite Beach, and what fun it was to simply sit in our lawn chairs near the motel driveway to watch Alpena's wonderful fireworks show! We'll definitely look up 40 Winks again on a future trip to Alpena.

Great value for the room, great location right across from the lake, walking distance to many restaurants. Comfortable bed, ceiling fan, quiet, good shower in the morning. Will be staying again. Would recommend.

This is absolutely the worst discusting motel we ever stayed in. I don't know how it even got good reviews. It doesn't look like the picture. The room we were in was dirty. The dirt on the baseboards were never cleaned in awhile. I couldn't stand it, so I cleaned it. The mattress and box spring are old and stained, also the pillow cases and some of the towels have yellow stains on them. The sheets were actually scratchy and not soft. No tissues, no napkins, no hair dryer. Did not sleep well at all. The pillows are old, flat and hard. Check out the outside gutter, there is a tree growing out of it. I will never stay there again. I don't understand how this place got any good reviews. A gem it is not. They charged 90.00 per night for this.............

Stayed the night here while passing through. Right across the street from a public beach. Clean room, working on a budget, happy with this choice. Friendly owner. Would stay again if in town. Beds were comfortable.

If you're just looking for a clean and budget-friendly place to sleep while enjoying the Lake Huron shore, then the 40 Winks may be for you. Our room had a queen bed, fridge, and TV, with a microwave available in the rental office. There's a public park right across the street, where you can swim in the lake anytime (it's shallow and sandy along that stretch -- a good spot for kids). Right next door is a quaint miniature golf course with a friendly owner (after playing there two days in a row, he gave my husband and I a free game) and there's a Dairy Queen a few doors down as well. We weren't interested in fancy accommodations during our visit to Alpena, so this motel was perfect for us (and for $50 a night, the price was definitely right). We'd be happy to stay there again on a future trip to the area.

My wife and I were coming up to Alpena to stay awhile and were looking around at different places to stay. The franchise hotels were all booked, so it only left the small motels. 40 Winks may not look like much, but, for 50 dollars I would stay here every time I came back to Alpena. If you're just looking for a cold place to escape the heat, or a warm place to stay at, nothing in Alpena beats the value of 40 Winks. The rooms show age, but everything is clean and smelled good. I'd give the place 4 star rating. Update the walls and decor in the rooms and it could easily be 5 star. Thanks!

For my wife and I the Forty Winks is perfect. Right on Hwy 23, easy to find, close to shopping and food, and right across the street from a great beach & park. Beautiful area and great if you have kids. Queen beds are comfy, room was spotless, toilet flushed and the shower worked. Fridge in room. The owner(owned for 30yrs), is great. She is so nice we bought her an oreo blizzard from the dairy queen that is close by. The room rates are unbeatable.

40 Winks was an older styling room, but clean and comfy. The rooms were not real large but adequate. There was a small refrigerator in the room. No microwave. We had to go up to the office to get our coffee...but it was good coffee: ) There was a beach right across the street we could easily walk to. The owner was friendly and helpful.

Great value. The exterior is neat and clean, this is a good sign when I look for a place to stay. The room was really clean, albiet, a little dated. This does not bother me. Room does have a small fridge. Staff was friendly. Great location for me. This will be my Alpena home when we are down this way. Great value.
