My boyfriend and I came to Alpena for a weekend getaway and stayed at Ramada because everything else seemed overpriced. I wish we had stayed somewhere else. Google listed this as a 3 star hotel, which seems extremely generous. I would describe the hotel as decent given the price, however I would not recommend staying here.

The whole building is like a time capsule from the 70's and is in desperate need of updates. The conversation pit in the lobby is a fun feature, but unfortunately that is where the fun ends. I appreciated that our room was spacious, had a comfortable bed, and included a microwave and fridge. The carpet and seating in our room had several questionable markings and the furniture was obviously worn. By far the worst part about the room was that many of our towels had prominent stains on them. I put one of the stained towels on the floor, but housekeeping just replaced it with an equally off-putting towel.

The amenities at the hotel were okay. They have a pool, hot tub, and sauna. The hot tub and sauna were not very hot, but they weren't horrible. The pool area is in the middle of a big atrium at the center of the hotel with many rooms overlooking it, which was a little strange but it seems like they had some fun activities including a little arcade, bounce house, and corn hole.

On our last morning, we decided to check out the free breakfast, hoping it would be the hotel's saving grace. Sadly, it was the most depressing spread I have ever seen. There were 2 hot options, a bag of wonderbread, a couple of yogurt cups, and cornflakes. To drink there was (bad) coffee, juice boxes, and a gallon of milk. The vibe of the dining room was one of defeat. I have never seen so many sullen and joyless faces at breakfast. At the least the French toast was good.

The best part about the hotel was the friendly receptionist and the Paul Mitchell body lotion. Overall, the hotel is only as good as your sense of humor. Luckily ours is pretty good.

This hotel is in need of a major renovation. Rooms that have threadbare carpets, windows that are fogged. Poor lighting etc. On a positive note, I found the staff to be excellent and accommodating. The property is in a good location with easy access to local hospital and nearby restaurants and would make a good stop for visiting tourists to this part of the world. In my opinion Ramada really need to invest in the property.

I chose the Ramada on the north end of town because of the location. There was some kind of special event going on in Alpena this weekend which drives up the price throughout the area. It was just handy for our lighthousing on Lake Huron so we had to stay and pay up somewhere.
What's interesting about this hotel is the bar and restaurant, just off the lobby, something that was common 40 years ago at larger hotels.
Fritomann likes to stay on the upper floor so sometimes one has to use the stairs.
The hotel staff was great. Conditions for sleep were good. I really have no complaints about the facilities of this old hotel. Yeah it's old, what do you expect?
By the way, Fritomann didn't try the Ramada bar and lounge, just didn't have time.

Had to wait over 20 minutes to just check in. Then was giving different room numbers on key card then what we were told. Finally up to rooms, they were already occupied. Once again had to wait as only one person checking people in and out. People were NOT happy. Was told to wait a few mins. WELL 45 minutes later. (we were looking at other hotels to stay at by now, they weren't any within 100 miles that were in our budget) They had taken the other peoples stuff out of the rooms, Cleaned them and put us back up there. We left for dinner, the hotel restaurant was closed, out of business. Which we were depending on. So we ended up eating at the bar. Food was OK... We left to look around the town. Were gone about an hour. Came back and our key cards would NOT work. The hotel had given our room away again. NOT to happy at this point. The hot breakfast was a bagel, coffee, and cold cereal. Was not a good experience at all. Checking out wasn't much better. She wouldn't take my AARP card or my Wyndham discount. I wasn't going to argue about it with her, there were a few people waiting to check out. I had reserved under one credit card and received my Wyndham credit card in the mail before we left. I wanted to use that card. So now BOTH my cards have charges pending on them. We will see what happens. A word of advise: keep all charges on the same card. RUN if you have issues like this. We did NOT feel safe in our room. WE put the chair up against the door.

Hi, Autumn. I am completely aware of the issue you experienced and and I can't apologize enough. The room mix up was completely our fault and we are taking the appropriate steps to make sure it doesn't happen again. If I may, our restaurant is not closed or out of business. Since the Covid restrictions were placed on us, we've decided to make some changes. We are currently serving food in our bar and soon we will be a "Bar and Grill", combining both experiences and bringing surprises as well. As for breakfast, that has been a roller coaster with the ever changing guidelines. We have now gone back to our complimentary hot breakfast with some modifications, you, unfortunately, got caught up in the breakfast confusion. If you would like to discuss this further, please reach out to me. I am willing to discuss ways to make you feel better about our hotel and your stay. Safe travels.

I was very disappointed with this Ramada Inn. We were in Spring Harbor for the weekend and the weather was bad so we decided to check out early and spend a night in Alpena. The AAA rate was $95 a night and they let us check in early. The young man at the front desk was wearing a mask and was behind a shield. Those were the positive comments I have to write about the Ramada Inn.

Now to my negative comments:
1. All other employees had either no mask, or it was below their nose. Some were even below their chin.
2. The pool and hot tub area had no limit on the number of guests at one time.
3. The breakfast was the worst I have ever seen and it was being run by 2 young boys. No oatmeal, no fruit, no yogurt, no juice. Only hotel eggs, shriveled sausage links and what looked like greasy potatoes. Off to the side was fruit loops from a self serve dispenser which obviously was not being cleaned in between guests. We skipped the breakfast!!
4. Pillows were too firm for my comfort and they were really tiny.
5. Room was either too cold or too hot - you couldn’t set a temperature. Just a high or low fan speed.

In any event, I wasn’t satisfied and would not go back to this hotel.

Hello, SherylL_8780. I'm glad you took the time to voice all of your concerns on Trip Advisor. I hope you did the same here at the hotel so that we could try to make your stay more pleasant. Our breakfast is complimentary, nobody is obligated to have it. We have a few choices that we receive lots of compliments on, especially considering that it's free! Our rate is extremely competitive for the area. I'm sure you shopped around so you know that to be true. Since we don't have the old-fashioned individual room heaters, but a central heater, our thermostats may be different from what you're used to. Most people have no problem finding a comfortable temperature. I'm sorry you had that problem. That being said, we have a great team here and we are all very proud of our hotel. If a guest has a concern during their stay, we do everything in our power to make them more comfortable. I'm sorry you waiting until after your stay to voice your concerns online. Safe travels.

The most awful experience I've ever had at a hotel. But if you enjoy sleeping in a mold filled stain filled hot as hell hotel room, then this is the hotel for you! We had to get our own light bulbs because waiting for hours in the dark to have them replaced while staff ran to Walmart seemed a bit absurd. Don't drink out of a cup that doesn't have a lid in your room because you'll have gnats landing in your drink. Also if you must stay here bring your own towels because they legit knocked on our door to remove the towels from our room because they didn't have enough for other rooms, therefore leaving us without towels. Had we known that they would not be replaced within a few hours we clearly wouldn't have given them up.

What a nightmare - The girl at checkout was ignorant, had to walk out with several others. Management wanted to argue on phone about my complaint. How sad. Very poor service. Never will go here again. Wow. and they wonder why they have a high staff turn over rate and why people don't stay there. Had a different customer call in change my room. The management called me 2 days later said that I wasn't even on Security camera and very snooty arguing with me.. That's odd as I was there and last I check I am not invisible. Wanted to charge two credit cards as they did this before. Another guy walked out 3 pm check in said he couldn't get in until after 4. They told another guy that made reservation a month prior where yes they had rooms available gave him room upstairs not pool room but charged him same price. This Hotel is horrible. The lady wanted to argue with me in front of my 10yr old nephew. Save the cluster and headache stay somewhere else.

We arrived at this hotel for a three night stay paid in advance through Groupon, to celebrate a what I hope to be a refreshing Birthday celebration on the shores of Lake Huron. The hotel not only did not have our reservation, they charged me twice for the stay. Each day, I was told the "Manager" was working on the solution, and never got a call. The first day, they checked us out of our room by mistake, and then, the third day, I met this toxic General Manager, Kat [--] . Not only did she not take any responsibility for the problem, I was paying twice and she asked me "how were you HARMED by this situation???" She was argumentative, humiliating, and I have traveled all over the world and never received such treatment. She then had the nerve to say I would not receive a refund for not staying the third night, on the Groupon they couldn't find in the first place! She is truly the Poster Child for Worst Customer Service of the Year Award.

Actually, it was you who was extremely rude, but I chalked it up to the frustration with Groupon. I'm sorry but we don't have any control of their policies or how they implement them. We are having an issue with their payment system, which I tried to explain, and the charges to your card were reversed. I hope the rest of your world travels are more pleasant, but you might want to choose a different booking method to avoid confusion. Safe travels.

There will be no pool towels, no matter what time of day and no matter how many times you ask for them. You will have to use the towels from your room and then you will have no clean towels for showering. They will then not give you towels for your room, no matter what time or how many times you ask for them.

Thank you for your question. Our Murphy room is a poolside room which has a Murphy bed ( double bed in the wall), which allows more floor space. At night the bed is easily pulled down, allowing for more floor space during the day. This room is most often used by groups as a hospitality gathering space during the day. When used as such, the King-bed room attached is often rented for sleeping. If you need additional information, please give us a call at 989.356.2151. We will look forward to your October visit!
