I wouldn't stay here again if they were paying me to. I've never encountered such rude disrepectful people in my life. There "cultre" may be different but to yell at us that we couldn't where flip flops to the pool area AND leave them outside the door is crazy. This was through the same lobby we wore our shoes to check in and PAY. Breakfast consisted of coffeee and the bagels that were out all night. AAnd when I asked that the light in the breakfast area be turned on so it wasn't dark [at 8:20 in the morning I was YELLED at again that it was plenty light out enough. Days Inn down the road got my business the next two nights I was in town. And on top of the rudeness the the carpet was stained and discusgusting, but at least in our room we could keep our shoes on.

We stayed there on one of the hottest days in june. Just wanted to find a place to go swimming and cool off ! Had already stopped at two other places down the road, one's pool couldn't be used till the next day and the other place had a nice little pool but no air in the rooms or cabins. So we were THRILLED when we walked in and saw the big inviting pool UNTIL the rude man behind the desk told us we had to pay $ 4.00 PER PERSON TO SWIM AND WE ONLY GOT AN HOUR. We thought he was kidding , he wasn't ! He siad "cost of living " "everything so expensive" R U KIDDIN' ME !? Is that legal ?! The room finally cooled off enough to be tolerable at about 3:30 a.m. ! Walking the hallways was like walking in a sauna (to CHEAP to have the air on) T.v. didn't work so they switched it but the remote still didn't work with the new one. Bed and bath were clean but the stains on the carpet were gross. When checking out he told me he didn't have to ask for AAA discount that was up to me . HOW RUDE AND CHEAP THIS MAN WAS !!! Put a real bad taste in my mouth about Econo Lodge , i'll never stay at another .

We stayed here over the week-end. Thankfully it was only for one night. The room smelled really back like B.O. or something. We had to open the window to let in fresh air. The carpet was just nasty and needs to be replaced! I wouldn't not even go without shoes in that room. The bathroom had some hair on the floor. The shower squealed really loud. The vending machine was pretty much out of everything and they were out of bottled water. The owner/man at front desk was really rude! Won't stay there again!

We needed a spot to stay to visit our relatives who were in the nearby campground. Instead of bringing our popup camper for one night, we opted to stay at the Econo Lodge. We had hoped to use the pool with our kids, but the lights were not open and it did not look inviting at all. The smell turned me off so we did not end up visiting the swimming pool. The room was not clean, the bathroom floor was dirty and the room itself smelled like vomit. We checked in to the room around 6 pm and turned on the a/c in hopes of having a chilly room to return to. The hallway was very hot (like a sauna) when it was only 60 degrees outside in September. The a/c in the room would not keep the room cool at all, we were awake all night. At 9:30 pm I walked to the front desk to ask for an extra pillow and blanket to lay on the floor for my son, and the clerk rolled his eyes and was very rude. The lights were all off in the lobby and it was unusual. There are video cameras all around the inside hallways, I felt like I was always being watched. The microwave was clean, but the coffee and sugar were very old and solid in a chunk. The continental breakfast was the worst I've ever seen, we refused to eat it. We will never go back, it was "terrible". I always say I'll make my own reviews, but I should have read these reviews before making my reservation. Next time we'll take our camper or else we'll drive the distance to another motel. The service was horrible and the property was not clean or comfortable.

The owners were rude and VERY nosey. They watched our kids swim the whole time and yelled at them for wearing their shoes in the pool area. The owner questioned my daughter as to how many people were sleeping in our room. They called our room out of the blue and told my daughter that she better not disturb any guests. Our room was not very clean, smelled funny, and the fan/heater was very noisy. The breakfast area was very dirty (dried food stuck to counter tops and drawers, mircowave was DISGUSTING). The continental breakfast was limited to only offered bagels, toast, dougnuts and cereal... which was ALL stale!

This place is awful and overpriced. The owners are of Indian - descent and very pushy. My fiance is handicapped and requested a handicapped accessible room when he made the reservation. Bars in a shower does not constitute as handicapped when your guest is in a wheelchair. He had no way of bathing for 3 days. These owners also provide continental breakfast including chunky orange juice that doesn't taste like orange juice, frozen cream cheese to spread on old, stale, almost moldy bagels, and Little Debbie oatmeal cream pies that were stale as well. Oatmeal cream pies for breakfast??? Oh, and did I mention how they harassed me 4 times in 2 hours about coming to clean our room the first morning we stayed here? And to replace our clean towels, they provided us with old, ripped up rags (see attached photo.) The 4th time they came to harass us about our room, they simply tried to walk right in without giving us a chance to answer the door! We paid $150 plus taxes and fees for 2 nights. Let me also mention how they keep the hotel at an unbelievably hot and humid 90-degrees and shut your a/c off when you leave your room. Please don't ever, EVER come to this awful hole. You will regret giving them your money and ruining what should be a fun, relaxing getaway in a friendly little town. This place should be shut down.

Thought we would give the motel a second chance, and I don't have a clue why.

The owners are still disrepestful and rude. It started almost immediatly after we paid for a night.
I wanted to put an end to my mistake of coming back and asked for my money back. We hadn't even made it to our room before some old guy was yelling at us in broken english for wearing our shoes.
We were told there would be no refund. I couldn't believe it. But to put a bad experience behind us we just left and I disputed it with my CC company and won.

Anyone thinking of staying here be warned. The Tawas Bay beach Resort was a fantastic experience and only 10 min farther north.

We attempted to stay here on a Saturday night while visiting the Au Gres area on a small family vacation. The rooms weren't the best, but were acceptable for a hotel of this nature, with one exception: the air conditioning did not work. At first the unit was running, but not putting out much cold air. Then it stopped functioning altogether. Rather than ask for another room, we decided to just drive home for the night as we only live about an hour away.

When we went to check out the desk staff, who appeared to be the owner and his wife, wanted to give us another room, which is fine. However when we explained that we just wanted to check out and go home, they got extremely rude, claiming that we "used their room and their electricity for 5 hours and now want to leave". We explained were not trying to get out of paying for the night - we would have happily paid - we just wanted to go home. His wife jumped in saying that now she had to clean the room again and that it is a pain for her to clean the rooms.

At this point, we just kept trying to explain that we were not trying to get out of paying for the night and just wanted to leave, but then he called his corporate office to see how he should handle it. He proceeded to argue on the phone with his corporate office about us with us standing there listening. The entire check-out process took about a half hour. We would have just left, but wanted to make sure we were properly checked out so they didn't charge us for extra nights.

We will never visit another Econolodge, and probably never another Choice hotel chain. Your mileage may vary, but at least be aware that their air conditioning units are very under powered even if they work. It was only about 75F outside, but in the room it was 80+. Also, the pool and hot tub were very cloudy and unappealing.

Everything started right from check in. We had been driving all over looking for a place to stay and every where else was already booked. I called my mom who got on the website and quickly called and reserved us a room here. We were only 15 minutes away but didn't want to take any chances. While I was waiting my turn to check in I noticed everyone else was paying $79.99 plus tax. So when my turn came up I was charged $89 + of course I questioned the man who by the way does not speek enough English to be running the front desk. He just blew me off. Well I didn't want to give up my room, there was no where else to go. Come to find out it's because we reserved the room. BIG DEAL!!! As far as cleanliness the room was ok. there was open pop in the fridge, something sticky on the counter top and the worst was the hair all over the shower curtain. Other guests were very loud up and down the hallways. And the pool was very "slimey" on the bottom.

This place is in need of a complete cleaning...The state of Michigan needs to inspect this place. Hairs all over the floors in the bathrooms, shower stalls, dirty kleenex under the sink. Carpet stains everywhere. Never stay here again
