Hotel indicated with 5 stars but which lacks maintenance. The room we were assigned was spacious with two large windows. The air conditioning worked well but it did not stop when the temperature was reached, which caused it to be annoying during the night because it started every 10 minutes or the temperature was very low even though the thermostat was very high. Fair cleaning but not incorrect. The breakfast was correct, the problem is that if you have more customers the replenishment is very slow, sometimes it did not even occur. Very well located a few steps from the main square. Perhaps the latter is the most notable.

Senses is a low rise hotel located at the only real place you will want to be in this city of congested streets shared by buses and nondescript shops and ramshackle booths of clothing vendors. Senses is at the very heart of the Santa Cruz city center on the central plaza, which is the only place you will want to spend anytime within the city center. If you are in Santa Cruz at all, it is probably not because you chose it as a tourist destination-- you are there for some definite reason, business or transit need. Senses has several virtues of its own making, and several challenges over which it has no control. The virtues are security, cleanliness, friendliness and the only location of any architectural interest. The challenges are traffic congestion and the relative impoverishment of the whole city center. Senses is about the best you can do for accommodations as a visitor in Santa Cruz. Beyond the Plaza, don't expect to find nice little restaurants and cafes, as they are few and far between-- except on the plaza itself. The staff is very friendly and project that they really care about you, and are at the ready to offer you any help and assistance they can. My luxury suite facing the Plaza was really spectacular, with floor to ceiling glass throughout. It was clean to western standards with very nice furniture and lamps so I could use lighting to enhance the atmosphere even more. It had two nice flat screens (without HBO and other premium channels) with adequate English programing. The stylishly furnished lobby is spacious and stimulating, and has doorways directly into the galleria with restaurants on the ground floor and on the roof-- the rooftop bar and restaurants is the nicest place and best view I found anywhere in the city. The bathroom was luxurious and clean. The bedroom area was large and comfortable, and the whole unit had air conditioning that worked pretty well, and you would be overcome by the heat if it wasn't there. Sense also had a very nice business center with conference room table, phones and computers. If you are going to be in the city for some reason for more than a few nights and need more space, there are some good apartment-hotels (such as the Terrasol on Aromas Street). But if you are going to be in Santa Cruz for only a few nights and just need a nice place to stay, I strongly recommend you stay at this hotel.

very friendly and helpful staff
rooms are of a decent size
high speed wifi
nice terrace on the upper floor with amazing views of the city cathedral.
to improve: hotel seems a little old now. it is supposed to be design and trendy but parts of the hotel (elevators) and bathroom need a clear refreshning
also hotel could be quite noisy if you end up with rooms on the street

It is the best location in Santa Cruz, in the main square of the city, very close to a lot of restaurants and shops
The room was large and clean.

But the hotel needs a strong urgent maintenance and painting.
The restaurant smells sewage, and the areas close to it smells like frying.
The sauna was closed for maintenance, but no one working to fix it.
And they covered the best view of the cathedral with a horrible metal roof

Once upon time many many many moons ago this hotel was I expect quite posh….. unfortunately that is not the case today or anytime recently… it’s rundown and very tired. If I’d known I’d never of booked it. I would not call this anywhere near 5 star possibly 2?…. It’s does idly have a tv bigger than my local cinema which is the last thing I want on holiday🙄…

Anyway I’d not stay here again.

This hotel does not pay its workers. The hotel is behind at least 2 to 3 months or more in paying its workers. The workers give good service as much as they can but the turnover is high. And if they quit or they are fired, the hotel does not give them their pay. Ask the workers if you want to know. This hotel is unethical to its workers.

They mentioned it is a five stars hotel but I rank them two stars because of the cleanliness. Very dirty and messy. When we arrived the room, we found an old key folder on the table and a used female underwear in the closet. The curtains were so dirty and the paint on the ceiling were everywhere. Don't swim because the pool has some trashes and insects. Also, the manager looked us down when we arrived because we are backpackers. We booked the room via Agoda but the manager asked us to pay when we arrived which is the first time we experienced. We normally settled the bill when we check out. Also, his attitude was very bad to us. When he photocopied my passport, he dropped my immigration card and did not realized. It's not only him. Nearly everyone at the reception could not speak English. Kind of bad experience at the hotel. But this hotel is next to the Main Square which is very convenient. If you don't mind their service, good to stay here.

I decided to book a room in this hotel for the central location but what a mistake!
The very only advantage is the location but the rest does not compensate it!
First of all most of the staff is sloppy, untrained and lazy.
My room had a view on the internal hallway (!) so that I had to keep the curtain dowwn all the time. Then missing towels, dead phone, lights randomly switching off due to an unidentified technical issue and very basic and wear furniture. Finally if you look for some better experience outside your room and walk to the skybar, well you’ll find only very sloppy waiters and junk food. Stay far away!

Wonderful location with panoramic view of Cathedral and main square. Well appointed large comfortable bedroom. However this is not a "Boutique Hotel". It is a mid range mass market hotel. The public areas have multiple large screen tvs showing non stop sports or music videos with volume turned on. There are 3 restaurants but all with the same menu: predominantly meat piled high and chips. I stayed in Boutique Hotels in La Paz and Sucre which had the right atmosphere and refined personal touches to describe themselves as Boutique Hotels. Senses however has not.

My minimum requirements for a good hotel stay are a comfortable bed, a decent shower experience(private bath) and a window with a view. Senses Hotel provides that. I have stayed at hotels with beautiful furnishings and wonderful decor, this is not one of those hotels. The decorations throughout the hotel are awful and the furnishings quite worn. The location is right next to the cathedral and they invited me to look at a few rooms, that's how I was able to chose a good one, #306. Some rooms have a view of a wall and are definitely not worth the price. Mine(not a suite) had a sliding glass door to a terrace and a view of the Catedral. The cleanliness of the hotel is okay, nothing spectacular and the breakfast is good. So, ask to look at the rooms.
