This hotel is not bad, its definitely not a 4 star hotel but might have been in the 70's when it was last decorated. The rooms are spacious and pleasant enough but could do with a better clean.

The free breakfast is terrible and definitely not worth getting up for. Flies all around the fruit and the bread was about a week old. The restaurant is terrible, the food takes a very long time and the waiter tried to rip us off by not producing a check and then adding a few dollars to everything we ordered even though the menu prices were in Bolivianos, we spoke to other guests who had the same problem so the waiter is obviously out to make a few bucks for himself.

This hotel was a really disappointment for the promising stars. The building would need a renovation! The room is spacy but dirty. Bathroom even worse, as the shower-knobs would almost fall off. The pool was notmto use as really dirty. Breakfast was average.
Too expensive for what you get, would never go back!

Awful - just plain awful. We were accommodated in this hotel as our flight was cancelled. Dated decor, an unventilated bathroom, and substantial noise from adjacent bathrooms are all bothersome, but what really kills this place is that it’s just outright dirty.

If you ever visit Santa Cruz, make sure it is not at this place! Where do i start!
We arrived late at night hence the reason we stayed, by the time we realised how bad this place is it was too late, broken curtains, dripping taps, ants everywhere, and that is just the start.

The buffet breakfast is offensive, its a selecton of stale bread and cold boiled egg, the place has a damp smell to it, the swimming pool was dirty and the area around it was too, they false atvertise extras such as gym and sauna, maybe 20 years ago.
The computers didnt work, the lift was in pitch black, and looking at another persons bad review on Trip Advisor from August 2011!!! they still havent fixed the problem, But the worst thing about this place is the STAFF, the Manageress receptionist in paticular!

My ipod was STOLEN too, one morning it was on my bedside table, when i came back later it was gone....after searching my room for an hour i informed the reception, to which i got a big middle finger, no sorry, no atempt at helping resolve the situation, nothing!
When we left they tried to charge us for extras such as shaving.....and toothpaste..! Unreal!

In a word, this place is HORRID! Im disheartened that i have to give this hotel a one out of five. I would prefer a zero!

There is no good, just the bad and the ugly!!! Unless you just can't find another hotel, don't stay here!! This place is filthy, the food is awful and the staff is hostile!! One of our group had her passport stolen while having breakfast, which is awful! The "chef"????? only knows how to cook rice and if you want a cup of coffee with your meal, it's $1.00 extra, as is a coke. The bathrooms are filthy and rarely does all of it work at the same time. There is no heat available and the lobby is open to the street with lots of wind roaring thru it. Just say NO!!!!!!!!!!

this hotel ist just horrible. the rooms are completly run down, seems like there has been no renovation since decades: dripping toilets, loose taps, smelling towels, the beds are way to short (I'm 1,80m), the service is horrible.

Dont stay here

Hotel Arenal, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia.

My first trip to Santa Cruz in Bolivia took place last month just for a weekend (I left after my evening class at FIU on Thursday and I never teach on Fridays) and I was so enchanted that I am planning to return at the end of this semester, once I have finished correcting my students’ exams.

When I arrived at 9 am on AA 922, the driver of Hotel Arenal was waiting for me at VVI airport, and fifteen minutes later we were in the hotel, right downtown. Add an extra $10 US for each trip.

Hotel Arenal (four well deserved stars) is an outstanding place in this charming city, right in the center, on Calle Beni 340, between Caballero and Charcas. It’s only four blocks from the main square (“Plaza 24 de Septiembre”) right next to Parque Arenal and a sort of Flea Market on adjacent streets and less than three blocks from AA ticket office on the same Beni St. I got a smoking “Suite Panorámica” 801 on the tallest building in the area. This is a corner “suite” without division (in South America that’s how they call a very big room) with plenty of windows on each side and a great view over the main square and the cathedral to the left, and “Parque Arenal” on the side windows to the right. Even the closet has a round window! Besides the queen bed, there is a couch that we call “Méridienne Empire” in France with several cushions, a big round table and two stylish and comfortable club chairs a bit low to use the laptop on the table but I just put a couple of cushions and it was perfect. There is also a mini bar and a full bathroom with a spa tub that I didn’t try because I always take showers. Of course, the bathroom also has a window opening over the city and the mountains in the background. A TV hanging on the wall with several cable channels in English and Spanish (and even French TV5) swivels to be seen from bed, the couch or the club chairs. Although February 20 was in the middle of the summer, I didn’t try a big open pool on the roof of the main floor because I forgot to take my bathing suit. Now they are going towards the winter! Naturally, the suite has an individual AC/heater that functions very well. Finally, the buffet breakfast was huge with ham, cheese, croissants, fruits, yogurts, etc., and it reminded me of the one I have at Hotel Continental when I go twice a year to Montevideo. They also have a restaurant in premises but I didn’t try it. I will next time. Last but not least, from the driver to the waiter, all the staff was extremely friendly, polite and always smiling.

At $70 (RAC) for two persons including taxes and breakfast buffet, this is an excellent value for money. That’s what I paid last week to sleep in a closet without breakfast in Paris, France, where I went to spend my Spring Break with my son Melvin, who is a French journalist in “The City of Light”. If I add that Hotel Arenal is in a charming city where you can have an 8 oz sirloin cooked on charcoal for only 45 pesos (less than seven dollars!) at the “Casa del Camba” on Ave. Cristobal de Mendoza (second ring), you now have a good excuse to make a detour by Santa Cruz de la Sierra.

We stayed here with a group of friends and family for 4 nights. The rooms and bedding are horribly outdated. Bathroom had cracks in the tiles, and rusty shower bar. Service staff is very rude, and not very helpful or accommodating. The only good thing i can write about this hotel is that it is within walking distance to the plaza.

This hotel is located only 2 blocks from the city center. It has one of the largest rooms that I have ever seen in the category of single rooms. Their single rooms are almost equal the size of an apartment. They charge for internet wifi internet connection in your room but is free on the computers located in the business center. The bathrooms in the rooms needs some quick fixing as they are a bit old and all the fixtures in them are also not up to the best standards. All in all I would say, it is not bad!
