Detailed Reviews
15 mins walk from cathedral. Maybe it's not the best location for sightseeing but great to relax. Clean room, hot shower, friendly but quiet staff, clean pool... So relaxed and I stayed at this place for all day without going anywhere!
Cannot bring drinks so I had to buy beer here but it was quite reasonable price.

comfy hostel with really friendly staff and owners. Breakfast is really good and the pool area is really chilly ;) It is also good that they have a kitchen for the visitors. Hostel 15 walking minutes away from Santa Cruz´s main square

We stayed here twice, but both times for a very short period (less than 12 hrs) while in transition between flights. The rooms are pretty basic. Both times we had private rooms. The first one was tiny and stuffed with furniture, the second one was large with 3 beds, but felt empty... not that it matters too much. The bathroom is shared and overall kept pretty clean. The people at the reception were friendly and checked us in at around 9 am, which is rare. It's a family-run business, so you can see the teenage kids lying (literally) on the couches at the reception with their phones in hands... kinda funny.
The pool is awesome and really warm during the day! I just loved the few hours we got to spend in front of it.
Now, one thing that I would warn about is the location. It's truly sketchy. You probably wouldn't want to walk around in the darkness alone (and it gets dark early - around 7pm). My husband and I were walking to and from the main plaza after dark and could really see the difference. Close to the plaza - lots of people, cars, life. Closer to the hotel - no one around and scary. However, during the day the area is full of street vendors and shoppers, so not too bad. The walk to the plaza is about 20 min fast pace.
Taxi to/from airport - 60 Bolivianos (which includes the tool). We took it 4 times, so we know. Someone tried to charge us more and we quickly established that he was wrong :))))

After 1 month of intense travel I was looking for a quiet place to chill out, and a Jara was clearly a good choice. Its well located, showers and rooms are clean, functionnal, and the is personnal is extremely kind and available.
On the top of it you got a pool, a parilla, and internet is working fine.
Recommanded.

This hostel opened recently, and all of its facilities are in top shape.
The main backpackers´ lodge has a chalet design, allowing for continuous air flow throughout the building. There is air conditioning in the dorm rooms, but it wasn´t needed since the rooms easily shed heat. Showers and rooms are impeccably clean and functional. This means reilable hot showers.
There is a fantastic pool, cozy bar, huge courtyard, and sizeable kitchen. The owners and staff hold weekly events (bbqs, outings to town, etc.) for those who wish to participate.
The hostel is a short 6-7 minute walk to the super market and about 15 minutes to the central business district.
Somehow, the dorm prices are slightly cheaper than other hostels in the area (about 70Bs per night for a 7-bed dorm at time of writing). The value is incredible and the owners are extremely friendly. I wish there were more hostels like this in South America

+1
I was in this hostel for two nights. I liked it, specially its back yard. The breakfast was normal(nothing special), the room was ok and the stuffs were nice though except one of them who wasn’t so friendly, nobody spoke English even a word! But what I didn’t like.. the hostel had serious problem with the CLEANNESS and need to be renewed. The MATTRESS was damaged as well

La Jara is a great hostel. We went on a your with them to espejillos waterfalls which was relatively expensive but we had a bbq and it is quite a long drive. Rodrigo the owner is very friendly and funny and makes sure his guests have a good time. The pool is nice to cool down in the hot climate. Rooms are nothing special but fine and with A/C.

We had a wonderful time at La Jara hostel. All (rooms as well as general areas like kitchen and swimming pool) is very spacious, clean, well built and maintained. Rodrigo (the always cheerful boss) and his employees are very friendly and helpful and they do make you feel very welcome. More than some other hostels, La Jara is a very good place to relax, but to also have the advantages a hostel should have. Initially we planned to stay only one night, but we finally stayed four and we wish we could have stayed longer..

The bathrooms were spacious, they had a pool, my room was big enough and felt like you were staying in someone's house. The owners were polite and we could use the kitchen. They even had a tap for potable water when I was there. I definitely recommend it to people going to Santa Cruz, want a nice place that is relaxed.
