Hotel's Favourite
Consistency is the mark of a true professional. After 19 years at the helm, manager Kristin has never let us down, nor has her staff. I have been staying at the Empress for close to 20 years, (even stayed here after my wedding, held in the venue across the street). I’ve never been disappointed with the hotel, the staff, the services and overall cleanliness and personal accommodations. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else! Thank you for always making our stay wonderful. This time around it was for business and pleasure. I didn’t want to come home as soon as I had to…. See you again!

A very friendly staff and perfect location make this a great choice if you're coming to Asbury Park for the beach, music or both. Across the street from oceanfront Stella Marina Restaurant and Bar and with ocean views from the higher floors (I was on 4) you are just steps away from the beach or the Stone Pony and just a few more quick blocks to the Wonder Bar and Paramount Theatre.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable with hvac systems that were quiet and efficient. There is a safe in your room and also free WiFi along with your flat screen TV and coffee maker.
It is not a luxury property but things that matter most like comfortable beds, good water pressure in the shower, soft towels and clean rooms were all there.
If it matters to you the ice maker is on the 3rd floor but the elevator makes it a quick trip from any floor and it's right by the elevator.
I was there for the Light of Day Winterfest 2020 and I had free parking which if you know Asbury Park can be a challenge. I don’t know if that is available year round.

When NYC turned steamy at the end of June, we found the cool getaway we needed at The Empress. The hotel is as close to the sand and surf as it gets in Asbury Park, and all of the ocean-facing rooms have balconies, with open side views down the entire beach and boardwalk, and sea breezes that almost made us forget that we were in the middle of a heat wave. During a week when the mercury hit 97° F, we never needed a/c to sleep (both the a/c and heat both work fine for those who want them), and walking the beach after sunset, we were glad we had ultimately decided to pack the sweatshirts we felt silly for bringing.
Inside, rooms are pretty standard, though that standard here means amply-sized, clean, and comfortable – especially the beds; we both slept better here than at any time since the start of the pandemic. Staff was very approachable and responsive, and, with restaurant hours still varying a lot during the week, Kris was especially helpful steering us towards good food. So were some of the folks at the Empress' outdoor pool/bar, which attracts a friendly blend of Asbury Park locals and hotel guests during the day. There is no shortage of tasty options around town (note to self: Purple Glaze Donuts), yet the happiest dining experience of our trip occurred when a group turned us on to TJ's Pizza during their poolside birthday party; when someone from Jersey offers to share their favorite slice, you know it's gonna be good.

We checked in on 8/9/22. Once we got to the room we opened a cabinet door to find broken burnt glass. It was obviously used for drugs and not wanting the hotel to think we were the ones who used it, we reported it. A very friendly worker came up to see for himself. Once he came up with us we were unable to enter the room because the lock had reset itself. Their master key wouldn’t open the door. Hotel maintenance had to come to reprogram the door. In the mean time the desk clerk was able to enter the room via another room’s balcony. Once in, he did confirm it was a meth pipe. We asked to be moved to another room and were able to move a few doors down. It was not the best first impression and we did think about leaving. However, we thought we would stick it out and give the place a chance.
The hotel itself is very conveniently located and for the most part is clean ( it can use some updates such as wallpaper peeling). The housekeeping did skip us one day, I’m not sure why. The desk gave us pool towels to use, which wasn’t a big deal. The room is spacious and the bed is comfortable. The TVs are small and don’t get reception well. The WIFI does not work. We tried four different devices and they all said that the router needed to be reset. We let the desk know but there wasn’t any improvement. We had heard others comment on this as well.
There is a small parking lot for the hotel. Since we checked in on a Tuesday we were able to find parking there. If you do not find a spot there, there is a lot across the street that is $15 a day ( as of 8/22). Considering I’ve stayed at hotels were parking is $50+ a day, $15 isn’t bad.
The staff (with the exception of the poolside bartender) was extremely out going and friendly. The entertainment in the hotel was very entertaining. Drag bingo was quite enjoyable and the bartender in both the smaller club and Paradise were awesome.
I wouldn’t rule out staying there again,

The location of the hotel can’t be beat - it’s next to the beach and walking distance to many restaurants in downtown Asbury. The hotel is not 5 star resort and doesn’t pretend to be. It’s authentic to its core and the town and has a fun energy. It’s clean and has everything you’d need for a great beach hotel. The balconies with the view of the ocean are great. We’ve been coming here for many years with friends. We always had a great experience and felt so welcome by the staff.

You are welcomed by a friendly, efficient staff. The rooms are clean, beautiful ocean views, you can leave the sliding door open and be lulled by the sound of the waves. Crystal clear pool with a stocked tiki bar. Walk across the street and you are on the boardwalk and beach.

I’ve frequented many hotels before and the empress is absolutely one of the best. This is my third time visiting, and each time I’ve been here, I’ve been very pleased. From the smooth check in, through the entire stay, Doug, Chris and the management team and workers make you feel like family. The hotel is very unpretentious and very welcoming. The pool and bar area are very fun and entertaining and the hotel is one block from the beach. The night time entertainment is always fun and they treat you to a nice and filling continental breakfast. Each time I turned a one night stay into a two night stay because of the great service and hospitality. There are other hotels in the area but I keep returning here. I recommend this hotel if you’re looking for a nice relaxing escape from the every day. Doug, Chris and staff; thank you so much!!!

Although this hotel is slightly outdated it is IMMACULATE, which is what I care about most. The staff couldn’t be friendlier and are always willing to go above and beyond to make your stay perfect. The location is perfect for all Asbury has to offer whether beachside or downtown you are within walking distance. The club/pool party never disturbed us or prevented us from sleeping like babies. You won’t be sorry, give them a call

With the pandemic last summer ,we had to cancelled two of our stays at the Empress. The staff was so helpful to give information as to what restrictions there was going on with the restaurants and beach as well as their precautions and restrictions at the hotel itself. Their input help make the sad decision of not going but their help was appreciated.
My partner and I have stayed at the Empress many times in the past and this is our choice for all future stays in Asbury Park. The staff of Chris and company could not be any more friendly and helpful which truly makes the stay enjoyable.
Clean rooms, friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere...what more could you ask for?

Hi !
I came here to see a show at the Stone Pony. Place is 2 blocks away
I was able to park in their small parking lot; there are warnings it won’t accommodate all guests. There are spots marked as ‘do not park’, they are serious, do not park in the ‘do not park’ zone.
The Empress has a worn look to her. But clean. My room was small, and one of the lights was out. There were few free electric outlets, and I had to unplug something to plug my appliance in.
There’s a small bathroom. The toilet tissue was strangely under the sink. The sink’s cold and hot water taps were reversed from the usual. But as I found out, the water was as you expect it; the ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ knobs were on the wrong taps.
They have WiFi, but it didn’t reach the 4th (top) floor where I stayed.
There is a (gay) nightclub on the first floor. You can hear it even in the 4th floor.
OK, so why 3 stars after my complaining ? Location, price and a nice staff. I’d definitely come back, knowing it’s limitations.

There was a free parking lot at the hotel when I was there for the 2020 Light of Day Weekend. It was not large enough to accommodate all rooms though so first come first served. I never moved my car as the Wonder Bar and the Paramount Theatre were both an easy walk.
They also had a free trolley for the event for those who didn’t want to or couldn’t walk the few blocks between the venues.
I recommend getting the Asbury Park mobile app so you can easily reserve parking if you need to.
I'd post the URL but TripAdvisor doesn't allow them.
Hi ellepea12, I am not sure. I know the club is opened unlit 2 or later. I would imagine the pool has similar times since it also has a bar and is next to the club
I think it is during the week but on weekends it's got very big party seen going on and then it wouldn't be
No, they do not.
gGood morning, I would not suggest our location for you. it varies but it is always noisy.
