Loved this place, the people, the food, the pool and of course happy hour! Very fond memories! Make sure to book a bed after doing a trip (like ciudad perdida or Tayrona)...More
I stayed here for one night before I did the Ciudad Perdida trek. I got a private room, which included shampoo (something I'm not used to!) and towels, and had a comfortable bed. It was just what I needed for one night.
Tucked away in the suburbs, this hostel is it's own little world - we never actually made it into Santa Marta town itself. With organised trips everyday and plenty of recommendations from the staff, this is a great base to explore the surrounding area. Our...More
This hostel is really cute as you can see from photos, but what you can't see is how great the staff is! Jessica and Diego greeted us on our first day with jokes and smiles and gave us great info and suggestions on day trips....More

It's not advisable to only do a half day trip. It takes approx 45 min to 1 hour from Dreamers to the main front gate of Tayrona, from there, you get a colectivo for another 15 mins to where you start the treks from. All the good beaches are at least 1 hour walk from where you get dropped. The lines at the front gate will take at least 20 mins and can be up to an hour depending on the time of year you're travelling so a half day trip would be impossible or not worth it.
My suggestion is to check out of the hostel and take an overnight bag. Go early in the morning and you will be at Cabo San Juan before lunch. This way you're pretty much guaranteed an hammock or one of the two private cabanas on the nicest beach in Colombia. The next morning you can trek out of the park back to the main gate and be back at the hostel by mid afternoon.
