If your idea of a perfect hotel involves casinos, spas, and room service, this is probably not the place for you. On the other hand, if you desire a quiet, comfortable room at the ocean's edge, sunsets that fill the horizon with color, and the company of penguins, sea lions, and turtles all swimming within easy sight of your door,...

The Floreana lava lodge is a once-in-a-lifetime place to stay. Imagine waking up opening the door of your private cabin and seeing penguins, turtles, and sea lions swimming before you. Wow! We walked everywhere on the island. The breakfast was delicious. It was served to us family style. Each cabin had its own bathroom with a shower. We were walking...

The cabins are simple but clean and quite adequate. We did a land based tour of the inhabited Galapagos islands and this was by far the favourite. You can almost pretend that you've been shipwrecked but with with pretty nice lodgings. If it weren't so hard to get to, we would visit every year! But of course, if it were...

We stayed here for 2 nights on a recent multi-generational family tour with Tropic (ages 10-76). This is a unique setting, separate from town and right on the ocean. You cannot beat the view! Each lodge has a full bathroom, and large screened windows to catch breezes. The friendly owner/manager/driver/chef is Claudio, one of 12 siblings in an old Floreana...

A Lovely place right by the water. Peaceful sleeping to sounds of the waves and birds. Clean and comfortable with decent sized rooms. Breakfast in a lovely covered area -al fresco. Snorkel and walking by the beach. No staff on site if a problem though.

We recently stayed at the Lava Lodge while on a tour of the Galapagos Islands. Of the three hotels we stayed in, this was by far my favorite. The cabins are very rustic with only two twin sized beds but the location, the view and the staff more than made up for the lack of creature comforts. The sound of...

Each Lava Lodge is like a large garden shed, but with a small en-suite bathroom (and ours even had a hair dryer!). The beds (x2) were comfortable and there were safes there too. Breakfast was outstanding. At night there was no light pollution and therefore a beautiful view of the stars. Also, it is sufficiently close to the sea to...

The accommodation is very simple, wooden chalets right by the sea, but the setting is beautiful. This is a completely unspoilt location on an island of just 150 inhabitants! Each cabin looks out onto the sea with chairs outside to watch the sunset. We snorkelled with sea lions in the bay, kayaked along the coast seeing marine iguanas and many birds,...

These are small wooden chalets right by the sea. They are simple but fit this quiet, unspoiled location very well. There are chairs outside each chalet to sit and watch the sunset. Breakfast is of good quality and consists of a variety of local products. It is served outside under a canopy. I stayed as part of a group.

This hotel is very simple, but the setting is second to none. Beautiful sunsets abound if you are lucky. The accommodation consists of quaint little cabins. They are simplistic, yet rustic. A safe is included in the rooms as well as a hairdryer. There is no wifi, but that is expected on an island with a population of just 150....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Floreana Lava LodgeFloreana´s fascinating story and the desire of the local people to offer a more relaxed , more enjoyable and environmentally sensitive kind of tourism, is why Tropic has chosen to launch its new Galapagos adventure here. Together with the local community and the owners of ‘Floreana Lava Lodge’, and under the supervision of the Galapagos Authority, Tropic has created a new program designed for visitors who are looking for something out of the ordinary, who will understand the value of slow tourism.Located in Puerto Velasco Ibarra (named after a five times president of Ecuador) Lava Lodge is owned by members of the Cruz family, one of the Floreana´s oldest. The hotel is a comfortable lodge with top class service and the best of friendly local hospitality, built on black lava sands at the ocean´s edge: one of the best sites on the island. Situated only 5 minutes walk from the centre of the village, Lava Lodge is also only a few steps from the ‘lobería’ where visitors can watch the islands famous sea lions in their natural surroundings. ServicesThe 10 independent cabins are each equipped with 2 twin beds (bunk beds for up to 3 people are also available). Each ocean front cabin has its own bathroom, front porch, a reading and shady area to provide privacy and enjoyment of the outdoors. The lodge also has a common area where guests can relax together and savor a welcome drink while enjoying the striking Galapagos sunsets. ... more   less
