I agree with other reviewers that the rooms are very basic, with the only amenity being super rough towels, but if you have clear expectations, then it's not a problem. Bed was comfy but bring earplugs as this pension is on a busy street. The...More
The rooms are all facing the pool, all looking very tropical. The rooms are basic, but clean and convenient. Parking on-site also was a plus. I enjoyed having one of the nicest public beaches right across the street.
We were here only 2 nights to see the island before flying to other islands. It was clean but very basic. Air conditioning was a plus, but lacked some amenities. Towels were rough, no hand towel or washcloth. It was on a busy street which...More
Really enjoyed and appreciated the air conditioning. Given the extremely high cost of electricity in French Polynesia, AC is usually limited to high end very expensive hotels/resorts.
Great location, close to beaches, truck restaraunts, supermarket and, car rental. Owner drove us to local car rental....More
On our way back home from long stays in Moorea and Huahine, this place was a good home base for exploring the city and the west side of the island. Close to Carrefour. Across the street from a nice public beach. Kids had fun in...More

When we visited Pension de la Plage Tahiti in December, 2016, transportation from airport to pension on arrival and pension to airport on departure was arranged by the pension. Not sure if it was included in basic room price or not. Generally, public transit in French Polynesia is unpredictable. If the bus is already full, it will drive past you and one never knows when the next one might come. Pension de la Plage is quite a distance from Papeete which is the main centre. On other Polynesian islands, hitch hiking is part of the culture and next vehicle to pass you will give you a ride. No one just drives by unless their vehicle is totally full. But, I don't recall seeing people hitch-hiking on Tahiti Island. Car rentals are expensive in Polynesia and be prepared to pay $100 per day. We rented a car for just three days on Tahiti and also rented on Bora Bora, Tahaa, Huahine and, Moorea. Find this to be good value. 4x4 excursions are available on all the islands, including Tahiti. Majority of times, one sees the back of a small truck with seats facing each other. So, you get a sore neck from twisting around to see the scenery but, what you see most is the people sitting across from you. Rental car, you have nice air conditioning and you go at your own pace with front window view.
