Easily makes the top five on my favourite hotels ever list. Truly memorable. As it says - a museum (of antiques) which makes this likely the only one of its kind anywhere in the world. The ambience is stunning and the rooms incredible. The owner is a delight and sets an example by waiting tables and cleaning them down himself.
The restaurant was very poor. Service was very slow and confused. Everyone sat around waiting although it wasn't very busy. Had to ask for cutlery. The biryani was poor. Chicken was tough. The restaurant relies on tour guides taking customers there
The Ginger House Museum Hotel is a truly beautiful boutique hotel with 8 guest suites with beautiful antique furnishings and luxurious bathrooms, The owner built the hotel and restaurant doing a major renovation to a historical commercial building. The owner has an adjoining antiques business with multiple showrooms of beautiful urns, furniture, paintings and many other collectables. The restaurant in on the water serving Kerala specialties with nice menu choices. Breakfast is particularly delicious. The staff attended to every detail and assured our comfort. They guided us for sightseeing and directions. The owner and his staff have created a very comfortable and memorable holiday experience. Highly recommend you consider this hotel in planning your stay in Kochi.
The most unhelpful, slow staff. Area on deck smelt of sewage and it took 10 minutes for anyone to come to take our order. We were going to have lunch and changed our minds as we only had an hour and a half and didn’t trust how long the service would take. On leaving a young waiter ran after us, the fastest they’d moved the whole time we were there; he only wanted to check that we had paid, we understand that, but then he asked for proof and had my husband empty his bag, get his wallet out to show him the receipt. He then went back to his colleagues laughing loudly at what he had made us do. Up until this point we hadn’t offended anyone, just ordered two rounds of drinks, paid and left. We would have complained to the manager but if this is how they were trained, what was the point?…
We had a wonderful stay at this unique hotel. The rooms are amazing! The beds are incredibly comfortable and the bathrooms are an excellent standard. It became our home from home whilst we were in Kochi and a lovely oasis from the hustle and bustle. And we were so very well looked after by Alan and his team. We ate at the restaurant everyday and the standard was always very good.
I adore this place, the bed is like nothing I have ever experienced, the bathrooms are exquisitely finished with so many beautiful details that have been interrogated into this historical building and the antiques store that is next to the hotel/ part of is something to behold and wander around. I met so many other friendly travellers and location wise this place is where you want to be. hosts are kind and accomodating and I encourage those looking for something special in this area to pay a little more and book a trip that's truly memorable.
We waited 20 minutes for a massala chai when it arrived it was Luke warm- they took it off to put in the microwave- at 5 times the price of anywhere else I would expect more. Our food order was wrong and the rice cold. Which is a shame as it was very tasty
Their restaurant out here is fantastic! We had the prawn toast and the Sadhya lunch. Both very delicious ! Pls ask for Martin & Sandesh. They are they best to guide on what would be the best to order and the contents of every dish.
Wow! That was our reaction when we arrived. Wow, what a unique place. We all loved it! The rooms are all different and something I've never seen before. Everything from furniture to decorations were something to examine and admire. We enjoyed just wandering around the hotel grounds and hallways looking at artifacts and doors. The rooms are huge, clean, and comfortable with modern amenities. The restaurant was very good and the staff great. Very friendly! We even met the owner of the hotel. The location is great. We had our meals looking out onto the sea and just outside of the hotel was shopping and exploring in Jew Town. Great place to stay and I highly recommend it!
We returned last night from a 3 week stay in Kerala culminating in 3 nights at the Ginger House. I hardly know where to start! We visited for drinks and asked to look at one of the rooms. Allen, the hotel manager, was delightful and keen to share his knowledge of the hotel with us without being in the least bit pushy. He showed us several rooms and we immediately agreed that we both wanted to spend a night in the King’s Suite as we fell in love with it. The suite was gorgeous, huge and furnished with antiques (as are all the rooms). The bathroom was amazing with gold plated fittings, twin basins and walk in shower. Two sets of french doors opened onto an enormous veranda overlooking the beautiful gardens with a view to the sea. We visited Ginger House two weeks before we were due to stay there and by the time the date arrived we had increased our stay to three nights (changing plans we had previously made to stay elsewhere). We definitely made the right decision to stay there and only wished it could have been longer. We slept like babies on one of the most comfortable (enormous) mattresses ever that was housed in an antique four poster carved wooden surround with canopy. The linens were beautiful. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff including those in the restaurant who served us some of the best food we had during our trip. Sorry if we ate all of the ginger ice cream (we couldn’t resist it!). The setting for the restaurant was very romantic particularly in the evening as it was right beside the sea. Our daily swim in the rooftop pool was just perfect (and we had the pool to ourselves). The owner, Majnu, was a very gentle, unassuming man who was keen to make sure we had everything we needed. He even gave us a tour of his massive antiques emporium that adjoins the hotel. He even made sure that our unexpectedly early departure, due to political unrest, was without trauma or danger of missing our return flight. The photos don’t really do this wonderful hotel justice. We have already decided that we must return before too long and stay in each of the other seven rooms that are all individually styled and decorated. Thank you all for striving for, and achieving, excellence.…
