My wife and myself have just returned to the UK having stayed at the Le Colonial for four nights during our tour of Kerala. Our inspiration for choosing to stay here came from the programme "The Real Marigold Hotel" as well as the positive reviews from this site. Everything lived up to our every expectation and all the boxes were ticked as far as we were concerned. The hotel (and this is no ordinary hotel) exudes history and character, is located close to some interesting shops/restaurants as well as the chinese fishing nets. What really does set this hotel apart is the hospitality offered by Smita, the manageress, and her team. Nothing is too much trouble and the food is of the highest quality, the best we experienced in Kerala. Smita is a most knowledgeable and entertaining…
Had a chance to stay at this beautiful property for my daughter's 12th birthday celebrations. Not only was the staff extremely courteous, they made sure to meet our every need. Considering there were two senior citizens (my parents) and a child in the group, we had a lot of requests. When they got to know that it was my daughter's birthday trip, they arranged a yummy cake. The chef fed us fresh, tasty wonderful food... whatever we asked for was delivered. The manager, Smita (my namesake) was extremely helpful and gave us wonderful suggestions for places to go to. It was really like staying at the home of a loving relative. We were accommodated in two rooms - Tipu Sultan and Vasco da Gama. The ambience can be described as Old World Charm. The Le Colonial is supposedly a former…
Visited recently in a group of 5 families. We had the whole place to us and really enjoyed every part of it. The rooms, the furniture, the prints on the walls, the old books, the food, the staff, all wonderfully managed by Smita who made us feel very much at home. Next door the church where Da Gama was first buried, opposite the Cochin club, super location. Can't think of anything that could have been better.
What a wonderful place... Wonderful ambience, wonderful service and absolutely beautiful rooms. We actually stayed in the Viceroy room which was absolutely stunning. Air conditioning was wonderful to walk in to.. Smita was a delight and made sure we were looked after, food was excellent and what you requested... I had home made cottage pie on two different occasions it was delicious. Within easy reach of all the sites of Fort Kochi. I cannot speak to highly of this hotel and must not forget Sumesh who along with Smita seemed to be there whenever you wanted anything or had a question. Having now seen it on The Real Marigold Hotel I can only say it is even better in real life.
Since we are Portuguese, decided to visit Kochi because of the first Europeans who arrived at India - namely Vasco da Gama, who died in this city; supposedly has lived in the house now occupied by Le Colonial Hotel - a beautiful, well preserved, extremely comfortable human scale hotel. Couldn't have chosen better! Extremely kind, attentive and professional staff. We had a light meal on arrival which was really tasteful. Hotel is at close, walking distance, to all relevant visiting sites in Fort Kochi, including shops and restaurants (generally surprisingly good). Had the chance to stay in Fort Kochi during the Art Biennale - again a fantastic surprise!
