Le Colonial, by the Chinese fishing nets of Fort Cochin, is probably Asia's oldest colonial house, dating back to 1506. Located in the very heart of Fort Cochin, right next to Saint Francis Church, this legendary house is said to have housed the Saint as also Vasco de Gama. After 150 years as the Portuguese Governor's residence, it was one of the very few houses not to have been destroyed when the Dutch took Fort Cochin. It then housed the Dutch Governors for a century and a half, until Jan van Spall sold it to the British in 1795. In turn, they passed it on to the J. Thomas, the renowned tea trader. These five captive centuries of history have been lovingly restored and the hotel is a true living museum. Treasures of art from the colonial past have revived that era, turning Le Colonial into a "Club" and meeting point for the discerning travellers. Le Colonial, in 2016, was proud to host the second series of BBC's Real Marigold Hotel and its cast!
We spent the first 2 nights of our honeymoon in Kerala at le colonial. The house is beautiful with well kept gardens and nice poolside area. It was the perfect base for us to explore the area. The food was delicious. We were made to feel as if it was our own house and were made very comfortable.

A very elegant hotel with excellent staff and service. The hotel is also truly historical and you tend to get lost in time. Do spend some time looking at the artwork and the architecture of the building. The rooms are well appointed, clean and extremely comfortable. Oh and the Chef is superb :)

Staying at Le Colonial is being bathed in luxury while you are attended by lovely people who quickly become your best friends. There isn't a reception but there is a hugely warm welcome. There isn't a menu but there is a great chef. Leaving is looking forward to when you will return.

We've come several times to Kochi and there is no place as Le Colonial : a splendid historical spot in a perfect location, where every detail counts : decoration, food (fantastic), kindness and efficiency of the team and of course the swimming-pool. It has been really difficult to leave the place...

We just spent two weeks in India, traveling across Tamil Nadu and Kerala from heritage hotels to heritage homes and Le Colonial is definitely the best place we stayed in. We loved the style of the house and the quality of the service. All rooms are beautifully decorated, the staff is extremely nice, attentive and discreet. The small restaurant (Le Colonial only has 7 rooms) has a limited menu but the food (Indian or Continental) is just delicious.

I stay in Kochi but had never heard about this Hotel before. It was my son & Daughter-in-law (who live in the U.S) who found out about this in the Travel sites and sponsored our two day staycation here. For me & my wife, It was two days of pure heavenly relaxation and indulgence in their culinary specialities. This building which was once the Dutch Governor General's residence is now converted into the Hotel. It has only seven rooms but each one of them have been very meticulously planned and designed. The Architecture is typically British/European with high ceilings and wooden floors , a bathroom which was huge and provided with Bathtub, separate shower and Double washbasin. The entrance to the Hotel has a beautiful garden with Orchids and other variety of flowers. The…

We stayed 2 nights in Le Colonial. We loved the spaciousness of the property on the ground floor, the beautiful rooms on the first floor and the discreet attention of the staff. There was a homely feeling about the place and everything was just perfect from the setting and attention given to details right to the meals prepared for us. We got a free upgrade to larger room as the hotel was not sold out at the time of our stay and this was of course much appreciated also.
