Mektoub is an offbeat place. Far away from the crowds, its peaceful and extremely pretty. Surrounded by paddy fields and coconut palms, beach is 100 metres walk away. All you hear is the sound of the waves. You have lovely birds as your unexpected visitors. It's perfect. Host Rafiq is warm and friendly, his staff always smiling and willing to... More

Breathtaking view. Extremely great hosts. And irresistible breakfast. Once you get here it'll be extremely hard to leave. Like everyone else we ended up extending our stay as well. The only reason the place loses points is because they need to be pushed to clean your room and the room tends to get sandy. Other than that, must must must... More

Pros: 1. Clean Linen, and toilets 2. Sumptuous breakfast, and 3. Spacious double room (two toilets) & 4. Ofcourse the sound of the sea waves. 5. Found the host to be very humble and polite, who listens to your every requests. Cons: 1. First of all, it is not a 'resort' or a 'hotel', but sort of a homestay, a... More

My girlfriend stayed at Mektoub for about 10 days and it was just perfect. We felt home in this peaceful coconut field surrounded by nature, water buffaloes and rice fields. Gorgeous... We took yoga classes with Sudish (I didn't find another good yoga teacher since then) Rafiq has been a very good host, always listening to our desires. We even... More

Searching the internet for a place to stay in Varkala was tricky. We didn't want to stay up on North Cliff, as we didn't want to wake up to tourist noise every day! Mektoub is easily the best place to stay. We booked 5 nights initially but ended up staying 10! It's just too easy to sit among the palm... More
