Good location, friendly staff but that's it, the accomodation has a great layout with private pool but it's very old and in need of major maintenance, you get splinters off the decking, the pool needs major clean around water line, I could go on and on but everything is old and worn out. What really upset us is they made us pay for 2 glasses that broke in the fridge because a can of coke exploded when the fridge froze (not our fault), and refused they wanted another days' rates to let us stay for 4 hours after our departure time even though they had no-one coming into our villa. We go to Sanur every year but never this place again.

We stayed for 6 nights. The location is quite good - there are lots of restaurants and good market shopping very close by. The villa as well as the pool and shower area were very mouldy. The entire villa was run down and in need of a refurb and a proper clean. The air conditioning couldn’t keep the room cool. The towels had been laundered however they were ratty and stained as was the outdoor furniture and the daybed cushions. Unfortunately the staff appeared to have had little or no training so therefore the service was poor and almost non existent. The breakfast was ok however it was a set menu that had to be decided the evening before and not much variety. The staff were very friendly just not helpful. The main pool area was very hot with not much shade. There was no bar service on offer at the pool. We felt it was very poor value for money.

We were 1 week at this Villa, at the 1st glance it looked very impressive, at a 2nd look (daylight) it was less, it really needs maintenance. Towels were old (holes in it) toothpaste on the mirror in the bathroom, However the pool at the villa was really nice, we were lucky to be not too close to the main road. The main pool was very nice, however also here the outdoor bed pillows had some mold. The employees are really friendly! We had accidentally a wineglass broken and we needed to pay for that, for us this is not done. In short its a really nice place however maintenance is needed and the rules they apply is for us a reason not to go there again.

I loved my stay at Mahapala for a few reasons: 1. THE STAFF: so warm, helpful, and competent. During my one month stay, they asked me often if there was anything I needed. Before I left, they all came out to say goodbye and offered me a gift! Special people: Chris, Intan, Ayu, Lewes, Su, and Azu. All showed me the sweet and caring Bali spirit. 2. PRIVATE SPACIOUS VILLA: I enjoyed having a private villa, spacious inside with a dressing area, large bathroom and tub, outdoor shower, and private outdoor pool, dining and lounge area. 3. LOCATION: Location: can’t get much better unless you are directly on the beach. Three-minute walk to beach and a few more minutes to the main street. Sindhu Beach is a local beach, so you will feel like you are in Bali, among the Balinese, as opposed to being on a secluded resort beach. I like this. 4. AMENITIES: all the little bathroom offerings. And especially appreciated the fast and dependable internet. 5. POOL AND GYM: Large infinity pool and gym (that could be better ventilated). 6. BREAKFAST: Excellent made-to-order breakfasts, which can be had in your villa or at the restaurant. Great service at breakfast. 7. SHOWER: The shower was hot and strong. It is outdoors, however, which some may not like. I like it, but when it rains, the only option is the tub. THE PROBLEMS: 1) have to do with the hotel needing to be updated and repaired. 2) The furniture is old, worn, and not clean. 3) Various things were breaking down: the doorbell never worked for more than a day, the toilet’s flushing was iffy. 4) The entire hotel needs attention. 5) NOT CHILD FRIENDLY: The villa pool is not safe for toddlers. There is no grassy area, no playground, and no kiddie pool for children. It is not a hotel for children. 6) There are gaps in the doors to both the outdoor shower and outdoor pool, causing mosquitos to have a way in. 7 Booking through Agoda is also not a good experience. Agoda is tricky in how they charge when you elect to pay “later.” They are not transparent about their exchange rate, starting in dollars, switching to rupiah, and then back to dollars. The final amount ended up being more than I was promised. Also, Agoda did not transmit my note to the hotel, although they provided a mechanism to do so. 8) Even with needed repairs, Mahapala is so much better than adjacent Sindhu Beach Hotel. RECOMMENDATIONS: 1) It would be nice if the hotel had a presence on nearby Sindhu Beach, such as an area with lounge chairs as other nearby villas have. (Mahagiri and Kejora, for example). 2) The hotel needs a ready-to-go method to block off the individual villa pools for small children. It was not safe for my toddler granddaughter, and my family had to change hotels. 3) The pavement to get to all the villas is made of uneven Balinese stones, which are not flat. This is not safe for anyone with difficulty walking, especially when wet. The hotel should spend the money to make this pathway flat and stable.
