This is the original guesthouse of Ibu Wayan and Pak Ketut. Since 1988, the Pengosekan Road has developed quite a bit, but Kebun Indah set back off the road still feels like the oasis it has been for over 30 years. The home-like atmosphere and welcoming staff attracts many return and long-time visitors to Bali.

The peak experience of my month in Bali would be the time I spent in Ubud and I designated two weeks of my trip to this location renowned for art, self-actualisation, good karma and all things spiritual. My choice of Ubud hotel was therefore of the utmost importance in setting the mood for my Ubud Experience. I spent hours often deep into the night on my Go-To booking site – Booking.com – searching for the most perfect setting and location. I found it at KEBUN INDAH. This exquisite, boutique hideaway of only seven, tiered, villa rooms offered everything that I had dreamed of. As is my practice, I had already developed a pleasant online relationship with the staff at the hotel. This is one of the great things about the Booking.com set-up. There was a quick and caring response from Kebun Indah, reassuring me they had allocated me “my perfect room,” the villa nearest the pool. On arrival, a busy lunchtime, my driver had dropped me on a dusty, noisy road with, as usual, motor bikes roaring past in droves. My outsize suitcase was dragged down a snicket towards the hotel. “Oh dear!” I thought. “This does not look promising!” The snicket opened out into a lovely, floral, openair Reception area of intimate size. I was given a welcome drink, a delicious cocktail of different fruits. I felt myself relaxing and unwinding, definitely feeling more “Om…”. I was greeted by Joss, one of the lovely Receptionists with whom I was to have delightful exchanges during my stay. Soon I was ready for that Special Moment; being shown to my room. I was conducted down through a gorgeous, verdant and floral garden passing beautiful terraced villas on the way. I suppose I dropped down three or four levels and the last terraced villa was…mine! It was utterly, dreamily perfect. It was the only one at that level so lots of privacy. In front of it, a few steps down, was the small L-shaped pool. I looked forward to dawn and starlit dips. My room faced an amphitheatre of palm trees and banana trees with bright, red tongues for flowers. Close by, under my bathroom window was a stone fish pond with seven goldfish and a gurgling fountain. My marbled terrace with chaise-longue was awesome. My room was in traditional Balinese style which was just what I wanted. No TV. During my stay I listened to gamelan and Tibetan Singing Bowls on YouTube. And just like that…I fell in love with Kebun Indah which I believe translates as “Beautiful Garden.” Every day Jati, a delightful, pretty and humorous lady, brought me an offering and laid it on my terrace. A little basket of flowers, fruit, rice and a burning incense stick. Every room received one. I got extra; prayers, giggles and chat with Jati. The air at Kebun Indah was redolent with beautiful scents and sounds. The dawn chorus around 6am was worth getting up for; chattering birds, cooing doves and later cicadas and geckos. But omg! The breakfast served on my terrace every day was decadent and delicious! Without doubt, one of the best breakfast experiences of my whole life! Each day I would order via WhatApp from a concise but appetising menu. I felt like a gilded Maharajah on that spacious, marbled balcony. The location of Kebun Indah was superb. It was brilliantly placed for exploring Ubud itself and all its attractions, and for branching out into north Bali for exciting day trips to rice terraces, temples and waterfalls. Although I did all of these, my most wonderful memories were just re-reading “Eat Pray Love” over a leisurely breakfast and enjoying the surreal peace and beauty of Kebun Indah. This magical place will appeal best to soulful types. For me it was indeed Nirvana!

Absolutely loved this place. Perfect location, about 100 metres from the main road, so you’re near the hustle and bustle but in a very quiet oasis. We had an incredible view from our huge private balcony where an absolutely delicious breakfast was served every day. Usually staying somewhere like this I’d be covered in Mosquito bites but the staff here make a conscious effort to keep them away with lots of bug deterrents, so I came away with no bites for the first time ever. Service was the best we had in Bali. Would recommend it to everyone going to Ubud.

What a wonderful little sanctuary in the middle of bustling Ubud. I have stayed previously at Alam's other properties out near Monkey Forest which, more isolated and a little further out of town, are gloriously serene. However, recently I have been wanting to stay in Ubud town to have ready access to the restaurants without needing to travel much. Kebun Indah is a wonderful solution. Still with the amenity and serenity of the other Alam hotels -- including the delicious breakfast of a morning -- I was able to get around Ubud easily. It's set down a path away from the street, so is mostly quiet enough. It's outlook is just beautiful: like being in the middle of a Balinese forest. Perhaps though the best feature here are the staff: warm, caring and attentive. Jos looked after my every need with recommendations, and his colleagues too were wonderful. Big thanks to them.

Superb hotel in the heart of Ubud, but so cleverly sited that it seems that you are in a private oasis. The villas are spacious and beautiful with stunning bathrooms. The landscaping is gorgeous and maximizes privacy. The staff are outstanding. Friendly, attentive, professional, and helpful. Lavish breakfasts on the private patios are a highlight. The hotel offers excellent value for money.

Exceptional, highly recommend this place. Staff are lovely, the place is so beautiful, quiet and green. We stayed at the Kamandalu resort also which was lovely but for me this was more authentic and homely and more character. Again highly recommend.

This is such a lovely hotel. It's a very quaint and quiet retreat after the busy-ness of Ubud and the gardens are beautiful and rustic. All the staff are amazing with a real dedication to service. They really do look after you and are only too happy to help. Great breakfasts and afternoon tea too. There are a lot of restaurants within walking distance including the yummy Taco Casa, Ibu Susu and Dirty Duck Diner (Bebek Bengkil). The ARMA museum/gallery is also nearby and worth a visit. Highly recommend this hotel. I've stayed at others in this family of hotels (the Alam Jiwa) and both were great. We really loved coming back to our private terrace overlooking a gorgeous garden.

This hotel was absolutely wonderful. My room was super pretty, very comfortable and had a large spacious bathroom and a wonderful balcony overlooking the pool. The staff were absolutely amazing. I’ve traveled all over the world but have never felt as comfortable with the staff anywhere as much as I did at Kebun Indah. Every single staff member here was exceptional and ”Robot” stands out, especially because he is so not robot and has so much personality! Every time I told a driver that I was going to Kebun Indah, they knew this hotel and I asked my main friend in Bali about the hotel and was told that the gentleman who owns it does a lot to support the community which makes me feel better about supporting this hotel! It is in a great location and the menu of food and drink offerings was enormous! The cost of laundry was so tiny and the air conditioning and Internet worked perfectly. Taco Casa is a two minute walk away and the food there was amazing! There is also a great shop directly across the street and a few stores to the left with a gorgeous selection of silk kimonos. I would happily stay here again and have to say again how incredible and kind the staff are at Kebun Indah.
