The staff our lovely and the hotel is very nice and secluded. Breakfast was included and was homely. Our room was made up basically every time we went out and came back which was highly appreciated.
Location is slightly away but they have a free shuttle and they give you a nice little small phone so you can give them a call when you need a ride back.
My only little gripe was that their deluxe rooms are on the ground floor which means that staff and other guests can look inside your room through the glass panel on the front door, but it wasn't a very big deal as its a small property.
Pro tip: one of my favorite places to shop in Bali were the shops on the road leading up to the villas near Threads of Life (Ubud market was closed due to COVID-19 precautions.)
At the villa there were many choices for breakfast, with plenty of fresh fruits and pastries. The restaurant on site prepares Italian and Indonesian food. In the evenings I got room service and the meals were tasty and fresh.
Rooms and common area were stylish, clean, and well maintained. We felt like we were home there with the welcoming owners and staff. We liked it so much that we returned again after staying in Seminyak for two weeks.
Grazie di tutto e ci torneremo in futuro!
Dealt directly with Rusma for booking and communication was faultless.
Cannot recommend this piece of paradise highly enough.
Stayed in 2 bedroom pool villa which we found wonderful due to privacy, peacefulness and outlook to rice fields.
The best part of Samara Villas is the staff.
So helpful and nothing is a drama.
My young girls loved the motorbike trips into and out of the main Ubud area.
Please,if you want quietness in a beautiful surround but close to hustle and bustle......look into this accommadation.
Thanks to Rusma and the whole team who took great care of us.
Two bedroom villa ideally located facing the green rice fields. Quiet, far from the tumult of Ubud center.
We really liked the scooter rides to reach the center.
Excellent breakfast and dinner.
Thanks again everyone

1. The location is beautiful, quiet and picturesque. It is a nice escape from the busyness and noise of the Ubud centre. The downside of this is that you have to get on the back of a scooter or hike a long hill. Cars do not have access.
2. The staff are warm and welcoming. That's just how the Balinese people are and you can expect that everywhere throughout Bali.
Now, if you assume that many hotels can offer the above experience, The Samara has some work to do to compete with the other hotels with 5* reviews. Here are some of our observations:
1. The standard rooms are small and the windows face the main access path, so you can't really relax privately without closing the blinds/curtains. The room needs some mosquito/bug control (even just a mosquito net above the bed) and there are no bedside tables.
2. The rooms have not been well kept. There was black mould laced throughout the curtains and on the walls (see photos).
3. The bed was so uncomfortable that we tossed and turned and had sore bodies in the morning. The bed creaked loudly and was the same quality as a sofa bed.
4. The breakfasts were the worst we experienced in Bali comparing to several other hotels and several cheap restaurants. The only good part was the cut fruit and fruit juices. The omelettes were plain. The "pancakes" were slimy and rubbery crepes. The coffee came full of grounds floating in it. The toast was served cold and the pastries were stale.
The Samara has so much potential. I just want to ensure your expectations are as realistic as possible before staying here.
