We loved our stay here.

The staff our lovely and the hotel is very nice and secluded. Breakfast was included and was homely. Our room was made up basically every time we went out and came back which was highly appreciated.

Location is slightly away but they have a free shuttle and they give you a nice little small phone so you can give them a call when you need a ride back.

My only little gripe was that their deluxe rooms are on the ground floor which means that staff and other guests can look inside your room through the glass panel on the front door, but it wasn't a very big deal as its a small property.

Everything was great. The peaceful location minutes away from Ubud market, walkable or a quick scooter ride away (provided by the villa.) There is nothing like the views and sounds of the rice paddy fields at sunrise and dusk.

Pro tip: one of my favorite places to shop in Bali were the shops on the road leading up to the villas near Threads of Life (Ubud market was closed due to COVID-19 precautions.)

At the villa there were many choices for breakfast, with plenty of fresh fruits and pastries. The restaurant on site prepares Italian and Indonesian food. In the evenings I got room service and the meals were tasty and fresh.

Rooms and common area were stylish, clean, and well maintained. We felt like we were home there with the welcoming owners and staff. We liked it so much that we returned again after staying in Seminyak for two weeks.

Grazie di tutto e ci torneremo in futuro!

Arriving at midnight and hopping on the back of a scooter for the short trip to Samara was a fun way to start our stay! With two older teenagers I booked the two bedroom villa, which was essentially a one bedroom villa on the ground floor and another one bedroom villa on top with a decent size pool overlooking the rice paddies. The villa lay-out exceeded our expectation allowing privacy for parents and teenagers! I loved that it was a small intimate resort, we only ever saw other guests at breakfast. Having stayed in other places around Ubud over the years, what is amazing about Samara is that you can walk to town in 15 or so minutes or be there on a scooter in 5 - no problems with "the traffic'! Having a phone to arrange pick-ups was so easy. Special mention to Menuh who was amazingly helpful from initial enquiry to when we left.

We had a wonderful stay at The Samara! They picked us up from the airport which is nice as it is a 1 hour + ride (complimentary if you stay 3+ nights and book directly with them). The hotel is only accessible by foot or motor bike. The walk from the hotel to town is about 10-15 minutes. Overall the rooms were very nice, we liked the outdoor shower and the pool. The pool was wonderful, every time we used it we were the only guests at the pool! The staff are all very nice. We did the Mount Batur sunrise trek and arrived after breakfast, but they still let us have breakfast in the restaurant. They also made us a breakfast box the day we left. Overall it was nice to stay a few minutes out of Ubud and enjoy nature and the rice fields.

Family of 4 returning for 1st time since covid(3 yrs).
Dealt directly with Rusma for booking and communication was faultless.
Cannot recommend this piece of paradise highly enough.
Stayed in 2 bedroom pool villa which we found wonderful due to privacy, peacefulness and outlook to rice fields.
The best part of Samara Villas is the staff.
So helpful and nothing is a drama.
My young girls loved the motorbike trips into and out of the main Ubud area.
Please,if you want quietness in a beautiful surround but close to hustle and bustle......look into this accommadation.

Excellent place to stay in a beautiful location amongst the rice paddies outside of Ubud. Staff are really friendly and helpful and the accommodation were comfortable and clean. Couldn’t have asked for anything better! They even drive us down to the main part of town on the back of their motorcycle whenever we needed to go.

We stayed here for 3 nights in October. WOW, what an amazing little find. Set amongst the rice fields. Surrounded by fields and a short walk down the hill if you choose to. The hotel provide scooter transport and pick up to the bottom if you wish. We used this option many times. It is a small hotel and so quiet (except night one when the Royals had a huge wedding party, not the hotels fault). Rusma was amazing, as were all the staff. She always went out of her way to help when needed. I stupidly left my diamond band sitting on top of the safe (insert eye roll), I called her on whatsapp and she got the staff to go in a close the wardrobe door and told them not to clean the room until we returned to retrieve the ring. Given the pandemic there were obviously some faults, like the bed wasnt great and the toilet seat was moving (we never bothered to complain) I think they have fared well. If we had not booked and paid to go to Kuta we would of stayed here instead!! We absolutely will stay here again. LOVE LOVE LOVED it.

We are just leaving this beautiful hotel, with nostalgia.
Thanks to Rusma and the whole team who took great care of us.
Two bedroom villa ideally located facing the green rice fields. Quiet, far from the tumult of Ubud center.
We really liked the scooter rides to reach the center.
Excellent breakfast and dinner.
Thanks again everyone

What a fabulous stay. Our room was amazing with the pool right out the front of it. Felt like our own private pool. Very comfy bed and the bathroom etc was neat and tidy. All staff were so friendly and keen to offer help with anything. Free afternoon tea was a bonus. Brekky was delicious. Location amazing. Only a 10 minute walk into town or complimentary bike ride in. Also a good amount of great Warungs in the area.Would definitely recommend

First let me start with the pros:
1. The location is beautiful, quiet and picturesque. It is a nice escape from the busyness and noise of the Ubud centre. The downside of this is that you have to get on the back of a scooter or hike a long hill. Cars do not have access.
2. The staff are warm and welcoming. That's just how the Balinese people are and you can expect that everywhere throughout Bali.

Now, if you assume that many hotels can offer the above experience, The Samara has some work to do to compete with the other hotels with 5* reviews. Here are some of our observations:

1. The standard rooms are small and the windows face the main access path, so you can't really relax privately without closing the blinds/curtains. The room needs some mosquito/bug control (even just a mosquito net above the bed) and there are no bedside tables.
2. The rooms have not been well kept. There was black mould laced throughout the curtains and on the walls (see photos).
3. The bed was so uncomfortable that we tossed and turned and had sore bodies in the morning. The bed creaked loudly and was the same quality as a sofa bed.
4. The breakfasts were the worst we experienced in Bali comparing to several other hotels and several cheap restaurants. The only good part was the cut fruit and fruit juices. The omelettes were plain. The "pancakes" were slimy and rubbery crepes. The coffee came full of grounds floating in it. The toast was served cold and the pastries were stale.

The Samara has so much potential. I just want to ensure your expectations are as realistic as possible before staying here.

Hi! It is a great pleasure to know that you wish to come back! You can park your car at our parking area on Jalan Kajeng about 400m from The Samara, in front of Ubud Sari Health resort. If you use Google Maps, please use "BaliRoadBike" as destination address as that corresponds to our parking area. Please note that the best rates are on our website. Thank you and see you again soon!

Dear 549lynett, Thank you for your question. The villa is a standalone, on two floors with one bedroom and one bathroom on each floor, and it has a 270° degrees view over the fields, basically all around. For any other question please do not hesitate to ask. Best regards, Stefano Facchini

Dear Mr_Ice_Al, Thank you for your question. There is many restaurant options within walking distance, without mentioning our on-site restaurant. The dining options go from one of the top rated restaurants in Bali, Luxe Cafe 200 meters away, from local eateries and mid range restaurants all within 600 meters from The Samara. Several spa options are available nearby, with the closest being about 200 meters away. Also, you can have massages in the privacy of your room if you don't want to leave the premises. Overall, we are very centrally located and you have everything within reach! For the best rates don't forget to book direct on our website. We are looking forward to welcoming you soon!
