I cannot say enough positive things about this family-operated gem of a hotel!. I stayed at The Samara for two weeks and was very impressed by all aspects of the hotel. -It's extremely well located, tucked into lush rice fields just north of the center of Ubud, close enough to get to town in a few minutes on a scooter but far enough away from the hustle and bustle to feel quiet and serene. The only noise at night was that of the frogs and crickets chirping softly in the background. - The hotel provides guests with a cell phone to be used to call for a scooter pick up in town or you can walk through a lovely street full of small shops and houses and then beautiful rice fields if you prefer. -The pool was beautiful and well maintained, as were the rooms. The outdoor shower attached to the bathroom was great and very private. And the landscaping and the overall layout of the hotel, rooms and lobby were clearly well thought out and beautifully designed. -The hotel is small, which made it easy to meet and chat with other guests. -As a female traveling alone, I felt very safe and well cared for. I felt the owners and staff genuinely cared about my well-being and were exceptionally kind and helpful. - Such gracious service! The staff could not have been friendlier or more professional. They patiently answered all our questions (easiest way to get around, arranging for taxi drivers, restaurant recommendations, etc.) and accommodated requests both small and large. I would highly recommend this lovely and charming hotel to anyone and hope to have the opportunity to stay there again in the future!…
Everything was great. The peaceful location minutes away from Ubud market, walkable or a quick scooter ride away (provided by the villa.) There is nothing like the views and sounds of the rice paddy fields at sunrise and dusk. Pro tip: one of my favorite places to shop in Bali were the shops on the road leading up to the villas near Threads of Life (Ubud market was closed due to COVID-19 precautions.) At the villa there were many choices for breakfast, with plenty of fresh fruits and pastries. The restaurant on site prepares Italian and Indonesian food. In the evenings I got room service and the meals were tasty and fresh. Rooms and common area were stylish, clean, and well maintained. We felt like we were home there with the welcoming owners and staff. We liked it so much that we returned again after staying in Seminyak for two weeks. Grazie di tutto e ci torneremo in futuro!…
We had a wonderful stay at The Samara! They picked us up from the airport which is nice as it is a 1 hour + ride (complimentary if you stay 3+ nights and book directly with them). The hotel is only accessible by foot or motor bike. The walk from the hotel to town is about 10-15 minutes. Overall the rooms were very nice, we liked the outdoor shower and the pool. The pool was wonderful, every time we used it we were the only guests at the pool! The staff are all very nice. We did the Mount Batur sunrise trek and arrived after breakfast, but they still let us have breakfast in the restaurant. They also made us a breakfast box the day we left. Overall it was nice to stay a few minutes out of Ubud and enjoy nature and the rice fields.
We loved our stay here. The staff our lovely and the hotel is very nice and secluded. Breakfast was included and was homely. Our room was made up basically every time we went out and came back which was highly appreciated. Location is slightly away but they have a free shuttle and they give you a nice little small phone so you can give them a call when you need a ride back. My only little gripe was that their deluxe rooms are on the ground floor which means that staff and other guests can look inside your room through the glass panel on the front door, but it wasn't a very big deal as its a small property.
Arriving at midnight and hopping on the back of a scooter for the short trip to Samara was a fun way to start our stay! With two older teenagers I booked the two bedroom villa, which was essentially a one bedroom villa on the ground floor and another one bedroom villa on top with a decent size pool overlooking the rice paddies. The villa lay-out exceeded our expectation allowing privacy for parents and teenagers! I loved that it was a small intimate resort, we only ever saw other guests at breakfast. Having stayed in other places around Ubud over the years, what is amazing about Samara is that you can walk to town in 15 or so minutes or be there on a scooter in 5 - no problems with "the traffic'! Having a phone to arrange pick-ups was so easy. Special mention to Menuh who was amazingly helpful from initial enquiry to when we left.…
We checked in to our villa room with a private pool attached and it was so good. The children get to swim every morning and they are enjoying it. The resort provides motorbike services (24hours) to the main road and this is so cool for the children as this is the first time for them to ride motorcycles and they are loving it. Everyday we will wake up to this beautiful view and the food provided by the resort is super yummy. And also there’s a restaurant (Dolce Arancia) by the resort and they served really good food too. We had it at ubud central. There was once we have our clothes hang out and it was raining, the staff is really nice and helpful. They helped us keep our clothes indoor. Overall the stay is very good for us and our whole family really enjoy it. Thank you for the hospitality and the staff is very helpful and friendly. …
This was the fourth time we have stayed at the wonderful Samara. This time I chose it as my base for a “significant” birthday. It proved to be the perfect choice. The location is so ideal; an easy walk up a rice field path from central Ubud. If you don’t want to walk a 24/7 scooter pickup and drop off is available; my partner, Wendy, rates this as the best part of the stay. The rooms are delightfully comfortable; larger villas are available. Views from the communal pool , shared by the occupants of 6 rooms, are tremendously restful. The breakfast is scrumptious , with a wide choice, and is sufficient to last you through lunchtime until they insist on serving you a complementary afternoon tea. For dinner you can either eat at the very good restaurant at Samara or head into Ubud with its wide range of culinary delights. But what really makes this place is the owners and staff. Owners, Stefano and Yudi, with their 2 young daughters, are resident on site and are part of your daily communications. And they have been so good at recruiting staff. Several staff here have been employed continuously since Samara opened nearly 10 years ago. And they are so good at what they do; whether it is reception and admin, resort and room cleanliness and maintenance, gardening or driving you to and from town on the back of a scooter. I will refrain mentioning any by name as it would be unfair on the excellent staff I would miss mentioning. One exception to that - Agus, don’t give up on Arsenal. They have a new manager now and will come good again. Thank you, everyone, for my birthday-decorated room, the home-baked birthday cake, the special birthday dinner at your restaurant in town and the birthday massages for Wendy and myself. And just for another delightfully restful stay. We’ll be back.…
The Samara was so wonderful! I have been meaning to leave this review for forever. It was so gorgeous and they were so kind. I had a room massage, and the best part was they had moped pickup and drop off right in the town, by 24 hour cell phone. The staff was so sweet. It was so beautiful there, I cannot say enough nice things about this place. We could have just stayed there and not even gone to town if we wanted. The breakfast was so delicious too, every morning!
Having previously stayed in Ubud central, I wanted to try something different and happened across The Samara, nestled in the northern rice fields. I was concerned about staying out of town but these concerns faded upon arrival. Greeted by Stephano and his lovely team, you immediately feel right at home. The resort is about a 15 minute walk from the bottom of Jalan Kajeng, which intersects with the main road in Ubud. It's secluded from the traffic and noise in the serenity of the rice terraces. The distance to town is no issue because they provide a free bike shuttle to the Starbucks at the bottom Jalan Kajeng any time of day. You’re also provided with a phone to call the hotel and request a pick-up from the same spot (also 24 hours). My room was spotless and clean. The bathroom looked brand new and modern. The outdoor shower is perfect for the Ubud heat. The bed was very comfortable, the air-con flawless, no issues with Wi-Fi. Each room has a small balcony overlooking the pool, rice fields and immaculately kept gardens. The included breakfast was as good as any I’ve had at full-service restaurants in town. They even arranged a packed breakfast when I needed to leave at 2.30am for my Mount Batur trek! The kitchen is open for lunch and dinner, plus free refreshments at 4pm (which I sadly never got to attend as I was always exploring town). There’s really nothing not to love about this place, it was a joyous stay. You'll fall in love with what Stephano and his team have accomplished. You can tell the staff take pride in making your experience as relaxing as possible and before leaving you’ll feel like part of their family. Cannot recommend The Samara highly enough!…
I cannot day enough about my time at Samara and the lovely staff we had the pleasure of staying with. Samara is the image in your head of the perfect getaway to exotic Bali. Tucked away only minutes from town, but you may as well be on your own island, this boutique oasis provides tranquility, comfort, and joy. The staff, from the gracious owners, to the kitchen, housekeeping, front desk, grounds... all friendly and kind, but allow you to enjoy your vacation privately. The food was dynamite and the open dining area allows you to watch the ducks waddle through the rice terraces in the morning. The property itself prides itself on eco friendly experiences. As a yoga teacher, I am envisioning using this property in the future for retreats, as it lends itself perfectly, tucked away nicely in the rice fields. Be mindful to pack lightly, as you will arrive at the end of the road by taxi cab and then transfer on to a hotel scooter to take you into the rice fields (as it cannot be accessed by car). We loved this feature! So authentic. So Bali! We cannot wait go return. Thank you Samara!…
