Service is good and rooms are big with clean sheets and a clean toilet. Although there isn't an air con, it gets pretty cool after midnight. Only thing is that your room will be home to some house flies as well the next morning... Overall, Not bad for a lodge located in a village in terms of cleanliness. Breakfast was... More

Thank you for your report on your stay at our Satwa Sumatra elephant Eco Lodge. Your comments re security has prompted an immediate visit by one of our senior managers from Bali. There should be 24 hour security. We thank you for bringing this to our attention. Regarding the Elephant Centre, many of our guests have other interests in the... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Satawa Ecolodge. We appreciated the wonderful service of the extremely patient and outgoing manager and staff, tremendous chef, and talented tour guides, especially Hari. Hari was our guide in Satawa, and he was great at spotting many unique birds and native animals on all of our treks. He answered all of our questions... More

Your report is greatly appreciated especially your emphasis on the wildlife experiences, our staff and your guide Heriyono. The International Rhino Centre entry is dependent on the scientists needs and does not often occur; this is a wonderful experience. Heriyono has been written up in the New York Herald Tribune and London's Sunday Telegraph as a unique bird smuggler turned... More

This is a belated review as we visited Sumatra in May but nonetheless sincere. We arrived at Satwa to the news that we would not be able to visit the rhinos due to a recent birth and the Santuary was understandably in lock down. Although initially disappointed the experiences we had soon made up for it. We had a lovely... More

First I must write that I am Indonesian, not a tourist from abroad :). I and family are fans of outdoor activities (my husband had expertise in this area) and nature tourism including ecotourism; already visited some Indonesian national parks in Java, Sumatera and Kalimantan. So I had enough knowledges and experiences about ecolodge, so I hope my review will... More

We thank you for your comments about our Satwa Sumatra Elephant Eco Lodge., especially about Heri and our staff. This especially appreciated this as all staff are from the local village. The use of local people only (one of the many prerequisites of an ecolodge) strengthens conservation. You have captured the essence of this ecolodge and also part of the... More

I stayed at the Satwa Lodge in January 2016 for five nights. The hotel has four huts with two rooms each. Each room has two or three beds and its own bathroom. The room is average. The meals are great. And it is very close to "Plang Ijo", the main gate to enter the Way Kambas National Park. This is the best place to stay if you want to go birding at night and see some nocturnal like nightjar, owls, or scops-owl.

Situated on the edge of The Way Kambas National Park, we aim to work with the park authorities to improve guest expereiences in this unique park with many endangered speicies (eg Sumatran Tiger, Rhino and Elephant). With 8 double or triple rooms, it is serviced entirely by staff from the local village in line with the companies policy of using local job creation as a Conservation measure.
