This is an 'insiders' gem of a hotel. Just six luxury bungalows in 1.5 hectares of land means room for all. The pool is just tremendous, overlooked by the restaurant and bar. Each bungalow has a bedroom, sitting room, large bathroom (with sunken bath indoor and outdoor showers) and a large balcony with a view of the sea, featuring Bali's Agung volcano as a sunset backdrop.

This hotel is a wonderful family run hotel, the owner and her son and daughter were nothing short of amazing and there’s nothing they couldn’t do for us! The rooms are beautiful and spotless, the food in the on site restaurant was delicious and the whole resort is just absoutely beautiful! I could not recommend this place enough and I can’t WAIT to go back one day because I’d go back to Lombok just for this hotel! There are also dogs that the owners have that roam around the resort and they are so friendly and kind, my favourite was Sasha!

Booked this hotel last minute due to a change in our travel plans. The owners could not have been more helpful. We arrived late but having let the owners know in advance this wasn’t an issue and the son was there to meet us when we arrived and showed us to our room. Seeing we were tired after a long day of travel he said no need to complete check in at that point, we could sort it on the morning. Room was huge and exactly what we needed, lovely outdoor shower and bathtub. After a good nights sleep we woke up to see the beautiful surroundings and made our way to have breakfast which consisted of tea or coffee, fruit smoothies and choice of eggs and toast. We were joined by the resident dogs who were just lovely and enjoyed a bit of fuss but didn’t bother us in the slightest. We wanted to stay longer and explore but we had a boat to catch and the son took us down, stopped so we could get cash and drove us straight to the ticket office so as not to get hassled by ticket touts. He explained that they were still having issues with rebuilding the resort post earthquake and couldn’t apologise enough but this was not a problem and I just hope they can get it sorted soon. Thanks for all your help, if we’re in the area again we will stop by for longer.

Medana has a beautiful garden and great pool. Staff is very friendly and really trying to make things as easy possible for you. The took us on a day trip to the waterfalls and an old sasak village. The rooms (we stayed in room 1) of the hotel are ok, but I think they need a make over at some points. You can see that the rooms were beautiful a couple a years ago and are well kept, but will need some renewal to make it worth the amount you have to pay. Food in the restaurant was fresh, but not very tasteful. Wifi was quick and also available in the room.

A very uncomfortable experience, reception was not open, no other guests, pool not available, restaurant was not open, paid for breakfast in the rate and not provided. I had been ill and local family members came to care for me. The owners confronted me on the second morning. No introduction, which meant at the time, I had no idea who I was speaking with. She demanded to know about my other guests. And stated I would have to pay extra. That was not a issue for me, I wanted to discuss this with reception, but no on was in the office. Dogs roaming area the garden. Dome are friendly. I was not made to feel welcomed. I have traveled around the world and professionally worked in the travel industry, this had to one of the worst experiences I have ever had.

We stayed for a week at this hotel.Oh it was heaven.I found it soo relaxing. The staff were wonderful and their service perfect. But the outstanding feature was the presence of the owners on site who treated us like family. They took us on excursions to various sights and to lunch at The Taman restaurant in Senggigi.Oh they were such nice people.Highly recommended.

This place was so wonderful. We came here for a couple nights after a week in Gili Meno, and maybe it was just the euphoria of finally having a freshwater shower again (and what a wonderful outdoor shower the Medana had to offer!), but this is officially the happy place that I will revisit in my mind whenever I am blue. Lovely, warm, laid-back staff (family-run business) with a great sense of humor and generosity. Beautiful, spacious room and bathroom with lots of traditional Indonesian woodworking and art. After a blissful Lombok-style massage in a gazebo on the hotel grounds, we returned to our room and watched the most gorgeous sunset from the private comfort of our front porch. Tasty breakfast. Lovely pool. You'll get good discounted rates if you book through them to take a fast boat back to Bali. Absolutely wonderful experience, at a fraction of the price of other resorts nearby. I dream of returning to the Medana for a month someday!

This such a lovely restful hotel with only 6 well designed spacious and stylish bungalows set in an exquisite lush tropical garden with lovely pool area overlooking the coconut groves - leading to a bay fished by local farmers. The hotel food is tasty (the Indonesian dishes and fruit breakfasts are especially good. Ask for a fresh coconut from the tree near the pool! ) . The vibe is reflective and -hurray - no intrusive music round the pool etc.

The location is good for snorkelling trips to the Gilly Islands (Gilly meno recommended, the hotel can organise, their own boat), the amazing waterfall a few hours away (the owners kindly took us themselves), and the Pearl Farm tour 15 mins away is definitely not to be missed! However you can simply enjoy the oasis of peace and beauty, read a book, listen to the village call to prayer while watching the swallows arabesque over the pool against the bougainvillea .

The real plus of the hotel is the personal attention of the staff and particularly the warm welcome and care taken by the friendly owners Steve and glamorous Resty and (when we were there) their charming children. From helping us out on trips to organising an outdoor banquet on the last night, this was very much appreciated - and is not the touch you get at even the poshest corporate hotel . This is a proudly independent venue and much better in my view than the seen-one-seen-em-all chain hotels.

Oh yes, the massage is very good too!

Highly recommended.

To start with the hotel: It's ok. But at 90 USD a room it is horrendously over-priced for what it is. Having stayed in many places in Lombok and across Indonesia I would put it in the 50 USD range. 2single beds in a double room? Very romantic!

We booked a room for one night via Laterooms 6 months in advance. We chose Medana because of the proximity to a friend's wedding we were attending. There were 3 couples who had all booked rooms there. We phoned multiple times in the days leading up to our arrival as we were coming from GiliT so wanted to make sure we came to the right Harbour and they would meet us. Despite assurances they weren't there. They said they were, but even so they managed to miss the 6 of us wandering around looking lost.

When the 6 of us finally arrived only a couple of hours before the wedding we were informed that they only actually had one room. Bizarrely it was in the name of the couple who had booked latest, although were the only ones to book direct. They had our contact details for 6 months and at no point tried to tell us the situation, even when we phoned them in the preceding days. They told us this keeps happening yet haven't done anything about it!

But it was ok they said because they had arranged another hotel for the other 2 rooms nearby for the same price. As it turned out this was 20 minutes away and were huts on the beach with no air con, power or amenities. And there was no negotiation on price because the Medana had already agreed that and they said we had to pay that price because they were poor. With now only 90 minutes to the wedding there were few options so it ended up with 6 of us all getting ready in one room at the Medana.

Other highlights of the Medana: 9 USD for an average glass of wine, broken iron which burnt and stained shirts, no wifi apart from the reception area, outdoor shower lime scaled up so it didn't really work.

In summary: we don't feel the hotel offers value for money and the way they handled the booking situation was terrible.

We are a family of 3. We were due to stay at Medana in August, but unfortunately the hotel cancelled due to damage sustained during the earthquake. This is an unusual review because we never actually stayed there. We paid for our stay back in February, and it has now been 60 days since the hotel cancelled our booking, and they have still not refunded our money. I have continued to e mail them, but they haven’t even had the decency to reply. The purpose of this review is to warn others to be careful if paying up front. I did and it appears they are not prepared to refund the money. Bear in mind with the volatility of that region, it might be wise to go with a hotel where you don’t have to pay up front. We were really looking forward to our stay there, but I would never go there now. I find them rude for not having replied, dishonest for not repaying our refund and liars for initially promising our money. Sorry, but I had to get this off my chest.
