This is a fantastic small colonial villa which has been turned into a charming boutique hotel by its current owner a 27 year expat Brit. The set dinner is Sri Lankan cooking of a high standard with a lime posset from a Sky Gingell recipe who describes the restaurant as one of the top five in Asia. I am not... More

A lovely hide-away in a buzzing city. The garden and terrace are lovely (the pool is tiny, but nice to look at) and the breakfast is delicious. The dinner is not included in the room rate and following one rather unpleasant experience, we decided to find better places (e.g. the Amangalla in town is lovely). The hotel is known for... More

we very much enjoyed our stay here, there are a few common areas to relax in where you can really feel what it must have been like when the British ruled the area. We had a very nice room, and the staff was very helpful. There is a pleasant balcony off the back with a small pool area

An amazing, peaceful four night stay. A beautiful small hotel with attentive, friendly staff ready to attend to anything you may want. I spent four days as a single traveller and could have been more impressed with the charm of this hotel. The staff were helpful, rooms, clean and charming, food particularly the evening meals delicious and good value. Overall... More

For the same service you can get an hotel for half of the price. Breakfast very poor compared with the sri lankan standard. Very slow to get the breakfast...at least 40 min, you must pay for fruit juice and eggs... In addition it is not central located and the way to get is very dark.. Rooms are nice

We stayed here in August 2014 and were not disappointed. We checked in early (1000) at no extra cost. Our room was beautifully decorated and the glass-ceilinged bathroom made for a wonderful shower experience. The four-poster bed was very comfortable; we were woken only by monkeys running across the tiled roof in the morning. The Sun House used to be... More

I love the Sun House. It has lashings of romantic, old world charm, delicious food, perfect margeritas and smiley staff. There is stepped garden at the back with trees that are lit up at twilight, leading down to a beautiful stone swimming pool. What more could one want?

Our family loved our two day stay at The Sun House. The house is a beautiful example of colonial architecture with gorgeous antique furnishings throughout. The food was wonderful, the rooms are gorgeous with wonderful attention to detail. The staff was attentive, friendly and very helpful. Staying at the Sun House was a perfect way to begin our Sri Lankan... More

This hotel is an amazing place to stay, the staff is excellent the views are amazing it's a very old world feel to staying in a modern day Sri Lanka. I will say, for the price of this place, somethings should be updated like towels and sheets. There is a driver waiting to take you into town if you want... More

Our daughter came here last year and suggested it to us. We arrived plus our friends. We had a deluxe room, Hibiscus which was delightful although the bathroom left something to be desired. Although it says in the website the bathrooms are new it is in fact some 15 years since they were updated and they need it now if... More
