The Dusita Grand is an amazing value. The rooms are spacious bungalows, each with their own covered carport (which is a wonderful thing in this blazing heat). Take the carport as a hint: I have no idea what or why the hell anyone would find themselves here if she didn’t have her own transport. By transport, I mean car. Even with a motorbike, the Dusita Grand is in the sticks. While only 7.6 km from the Lee Gardens Plaza Hotel, it still takes 20 minutes by car with all of the lights and one-way streets. This is not a place from which to explore the excitement and buzz of Hat Yai. This is not a place from which to park oneself (literally) as a base for exploring the greater area. A long-term work assignment? Perhaps. My per-night stay in March 2018 was 590 baht (US$19). For what it is, it’s incredible value. I stayed a couple of times at the Three Hatyai in the central part of the city. It had a big room, great shower, etc., but its price vacillated between US$54-61, depending on when and from where I booked. That’s three times more, and that’s largely because of location (although the Three Hatyai has an interesting Japanese toilet and a better bed).

The Dusita Grand is located, conveniently, at the midpoint between central Hat Yai and the airport. You guessed it: I was on my way to catch a flight and return my rental car early in the morning, which is the reason for this choice. It is a great choice in those circumstances, but nearby is a wasteland. There is a ring road nearby, but I couldn’t point to the nearest 7-11 (haven’t seen one). The staff person said there is a small supermarket (convenience store?) nearby that is accessible on foot, but I didn’t go. I’m not sure if she was referring to a mom and pop convenience store or a larger store (but not a mega store like Big C or Tesco Lotus; I would have seen them). It doesn’t matter. That convenience would hardly make this location any better absent a specific reason to be here.

The air conditioning is great. There is a small refrigerator. The bathroom is large and the shower is surprisingly strong. There is a rain shower and another shower head as well. The rain shower (at least in my unit) was not attached to the hot water heater (couldn’t tell you why), but the other shower head was, the water was hot, and the pressure was excellent for this type of shower and heating unit setup. The bed leans on the hard side, but it was still comfortable. There was a large blue pen stain on my duvet when I arrived. I pointed it out to the staff person because I wanted her to be aware that it pre-existed my stay (some hotels, like the Three Hatyai, charge guests for those blemishes if not disclosed upfront). She offered that I change rooms. I couldn’t have cared less. While they probably shouldn’t have put the stained duvet on the bed, it was clean. That’s all I cared about . . .and that was more important than repacking my bags and moving all of stuff to another bungalow.

I recommend the Dusita for overnight stays related to airport convenience. It’s still 10 km from the airport; it’s still 20 minutes. The Hat Yai airport is farther than one might expect from the central part of town. But if one has reason to be near the airport (or any other purpose located in this direction, particularly with a lot of stuff), the Dusita Grand is a find. It’s quiet. It’s beautifully laid out with gardens all around each bungalow. It’s great value. I never heard a noise from anyone or any thing other than some birds chirping in the morning.

If one doesn’t have her own car, forget about it. The appeal is quickly lost and whatever convenience that this option presents disappears. For the right reasons, the Dusita Grand is highly recommended.

Name is a bit misleading. No resort but a nice hotel nonetheless. Individual "hut". Very spacious room. Large bathroom but very basic. Hot water mildly warm only.

Comfortable quiet air-conditioning. No hair dryer. Limited coffee - just three in one instant coffee only.

Pay TV but all in thai only. Not a single non Thai channel.

A bit far from city centre. You will need car access. Middle of nowhere which also means quiet. Very pleasant friendly staff.
