I've stayed here several times over the years, as its an OK place for a night. It is clean and the bathrooms basic but OK. The hotel was recently renovated and now seems a lot smaller as part of it has closed. On one visit I found the mattress was very bumpy but was able to change the room. Fan rooms are 320 Bt (2011). There is a restaurant.

This is my 3rd time stay at this hotel. I chose this hotel bcos of its location n reasonable room rates as compared to hotels around Lee Gdn. Even though it's an old hotel but they maintain it clean. If I travel by train I just walked to this hotel as it is just abt 100m away fr railway stn. Opp is Robinson Dept store. Nearby is santisuk mkt, yong dee shopping arcade n Kim Yong wet/dry mkt. Central mall, odean dept store n Lee Gdn shopping mall r just few mins walk fr this hotel.
Staff quite friendly. My only comment is that every time after midnight I can't get connected to Internet. I'm nt sure if they switch it off after midnight. I hope the management read my comments.

I had my doubts about the hotel when i booked because of it’s price but decided to go with it anyway because it was supposedly the nearest available to lee garden where the songkran festival was centered. First of all, the hotel is not where it says it is; to find it google zebra shop which is directly opposite. The room surpassed my expectation; despite being an old building w worn down furniture, it was clean and did not smell musty. However, the window opens up to the staircase and not outside which became a problem at night. Now comes the horror:
On the first night at 3.30 am, i heard a knock on the window pane. I did not bother because i was not expecting anything. The person then went to my door and knocked. Again, i did not answer. And then i heard him open my door w a key/ pick the lock (i dunno which one but my room door was unlocked). Thankfully there was a latch inside so i was safe. He then went back to the window and forced the glass open and pulled the curtains open. Luckily there was a grill on the window (which could really been unscrewed from the outside). He asked me in malay if i was alone and where my male companion was and if i needed a male companion. I told him no and threatened to call the police. He apologised and left. Next day, i asked for a room change, and the other single rooms were worse or jus as bad because all the windows faced the staircase and some of the beds were against the window. The upgrade room did not have a latch which was worse. The receptionist’s answer was that it was songkran and that they have no control over who comes in at night which was not helpful at all. They did say that i could call the reception if it happened again. I really wouldn’t stay here again if i had a choice.

Hat Yai is a bit wired town with hundreds of different hotels, most of them are really old, pricy and...empty!
So we left kilometers behind looking for a cheep but acceptable hotel for transit night and finally came back to Laem Thong Hotel, located within 300 meters(!) from Hat Yai railway station, very close.
We took a 380 bath double room with fan. And we came back to 70's! Very old furniture, smoked, with specific smell..actually I was afraid of mice and insects, but no one appeared) There was a window, but overlooking the wall and tighty closed with dark curtain - so,there was no window in the room) The bed was ok, covered with sheet, with 2 pillows and kind of big towel instead of dovet. The TV was working, with 3 english speaking channels. The bathroom was quite spacious, clean, tile faced, with hot water. No personal cosmetic accessorise. No safe deposit. Wifi was good both in the room and lobby. For 50 bath there's tasty thai food, big portions, but mice a running under the tables..)
To sleep 1 night and to take a shower this place is ok,but to be honest,I was looking forward to leave it.

What a very lame review is "EEwwww....this hotel made my skin crawl!!!” I mean really... The "HaveMonkeyWillTravel" couple is going from hotel to hotel, bargain hunting. They got to see their room at Laem Thong in advance, and then said OK. What do they have to complain about? If they wanted the Marriott, they should have gone to the Marriott.

YES - the hotel is a bit dated. The ceiling fan looks like it's from the 1950s, and the TV with many channels is a bit small. But the water is hot, the bedsheets are clean and bedbug free, there's a wifi router sitting on the floor at the end of the hall, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the restaurant has good food. Laem Thong is quite an acceptable hotel for $13US per night. What whiners are HaveMonkeyWillTravel...

Cheap, budget hotel with great location to shopping, supermarkets and train station. Rooms are very basic with fan and cold shower. Outside street noise can be heard easily at night.
Lovely coffee and good value breakfast in the morning. Staff are very smiley and friendly. Perfect for backpackers for one or two nights to explore hat yai and for onward travel.

1. Price cheaper than other hotel. You can't get this price at other hotel if I'm mistaken. U should book a stay here if you're going for budget traveling. I booked 2 double bed room. Actually it just like 1 king 1 single bed.
2. City location. Very easy to find in hatyai city
3. Nearby city attractions

My very first time stay 3 days 2 nights here. Yes this is the old hotel in Hatyai. The room quite clean and not too big. Strategic location coz near the Lee Garden plaza within 5 mins walk. All the shops are walking distance no need to take a tuk2 to walk around. Only the water heater not functioning but doesn't matter. Plus the room rates is cheaper than other hotel. No WiFi in room you have to come down and sit at lobby :)

Sure, it is an old hotel but decent for a night or two if in Hat Yai. Location can't be beaten and it's it cheap too. Room with AC, hot water, fridge, cable TV was around 500 Baht which I was happy with.

Staff on reception were very friendly when I visited.
