Average hotel, average breakfast, tacky wallpaper but what can you expect for the price. Would stay again.

Pros:
- Great location - walking distance to bazaar and restaurants.
- good price (117TL for the night)

Cons:
- bathroom wasn't cleaned properly
- had to be an acrobat to get out of the shower (toilet was right in front, had to step over).

We spent a night in Atalay hotel in Kayseri booked for 1 night before leaving the region in the very early morning, hence the need for night check out.
Despite any attempt of double checking that everything was fine for a night check out, when we had to check out the assistan at the reception (almost no single english word .. ) first presented us a Room Account which was not the right one (full week staying and different room number) then required us to pay 2 nights instead of 1 (we checked in at 9pm the evening before and we were checking out at 430am the morning after .. as per booking confirmation email) charging an higer price per night.. after almost 1 hour debating we could pay 1 single night but at a higher price than what was printed in the confirmation email (which he didn't want to read at all nor to check for hotel emails if any .. )
Regardless to say .. if you are running out of time (with a flight leaving in 1 hour or so) there's no enough time to argument or call local representatives/police so we paid (more) and left the place.

it's very well located in the city centre but not a great experience at all

I/we arrived at the Atalay at approx 14.20 on 14 Nov.2014 As check in was from 14.00. We were issued with keys for rooms 401 and 306 our room being 401. I informed reception that I had made a request for a room on the ground floor or near to a lift, as my disabled wife and female friend find stairs difficult to climb/descend. I was informed that no rooms were available on the ground floor for guests and that 1st and 2nd floor rooms needed to be cleaned as they had had a large party in that night before and thus 1st and 2nd floor rooms were not ready, and that I should accept the room proffered. I declined and insisted upon a room on the 1st floor. If I did not get a room as requested I would find another hotel and send them the bill. They responded by stating that if we were prepared to wait 20mins or so then they would provide us with a room on the 1st floor. I accepted their offer and my wife and I waited in reception drinking coffee provided (free) by the hotel. We went up to our room 106? on the 1st floor everything seemed ok except that there was a used ashtray on the open window ledge with cigarette ends in it. The door to the bathroom would not open properly due to it hitting the toilet bowl which made it difficult to move within the confines of the washing area.. Still we accepted that we would manage as it was only for 2 nights.
The following morning we went down for breakfast at about 08.30 only to find that there were no eggs, no toms, little bread and the omelette and other supposed hot foods very cold and little of it. Fruit juice was nowhere to be seen. I mentioned to the hotel staff about the lack of food, hot and cold. and waited for them to fetch more. after about 10.00 mins. still no sign, so I spoke with one of the staff again about my concerns about the food. Of they went failing to return. Again I asked staff 2 more times about the lack of food and finally they filled the empty platters.
On leaving the breakfast table, I was passing reception when the receptionist asked if we would move from our rooms to the 4th floor, we declined. She gave her reason that there was a party coming in that day and she wanted them to all be close to each other. I said we will move, but only on to the same floor, not any other floor. It was agreed we would move and a member of staff offered to show me the alternative room (111) I looked in and said fine but that I did not want a room stinking of old cigarette smoke. He said this is a non smoking room as our other room was, I pointed to an ashtray on the side (with old cigarette ends in it) He apologised and said he would make sure that the room was nice and fresh for when we moved. Approx 30 mins. later a member of staff came to us to take us to our changed room. Leading the way he walked past room 111 and entered room 101 I said this is not the room we were shown earlier, but would take it anyway. Although I would have preferred room 111 but this had yet to be cleaned. So rather than wait any longer took room 101.
Later that day, my wife was feeling ill and I was rather tired so we decided to get a couple of hours sleep before going out to see our friends. I turned on the TV for the first time, and the noise of hissing distortion was unbearable. I turned it off. then as we settled down to sleep there was what can only be described as a hammer being used on the wall below us, this went on for about 45 mins. Besides this disturbance at the same time, cleaning staff were talking in raised voices continually as they cleaned each room on the floor and piled all dirty linen and pots, foodstuffs just outside our room. Later I went down to reception (as we were going out) and complained about the afternoons events. They apologised and said they would try to fix the TV problem , which they did on our return. Overall not a pleasant stay.

We arrived early so our room was not yet ready and we decided to walk around first. We came back 2 hours later and the room was ready although it was obviously a smokers room instead of a non-smoking room. In fact the whole hotel was a smokers place, so only go there if you can handle it. We paid 36 Euro for the night, incl. breakfast (standard in Turkey). They first wanted to charge us 140try for the room (more than 36 Euro) but we mentioned we booked via booking.com so we paid 36. The room itself was very small, the shower had a missing part(so everything was wet after having a shower). Sheets and towels were clean and nothing to complain about that. The breakfast was surprisingly good with a lot of variety. The room was ok for one night but we would not spend our entire vacation there.

With Kayseri as the staging spot for the exploration of the Cappadocia region, this hotel is a snug retreat. Easily reached in a matter of about twenty minutes from the airport, it is on a street parallel to the main road of the city. Buffered from the street bustle, it is however just near a lot of restaurants and shops and within walking distance to city attractions for the benefit of visitors. The good-sized, cleanly-maintained room has a TV, private bathroom and comfy bed . Fast wifi is accessible all throughout the hotel. Buffet breakfast at the hotel`s ground floor restaurant offers a lot of filling and tasteful choices. Hotel personnel are helpful and nice. You can ask them how to go to Goreme, one of the region`s super attractions, as a DIY tour which I resorted to in lieu of a travel agency`s tour package. I can choose to stay here again in case of a return trip.

Stayed one night. A good standard of basic accomodation at a very modest price. The decor looks to have been updated with a more modern look in the recent past. Small bathroom which was a bit of a tight squeeze to get into/out of. WiFi seemed pretty reliable.

The ground floor has a pleasant lounge and a few tables/chairs outside, overlooking the small one-way backstreet on which the hotel is located. Reception spoke good english. For a small hotel they offered a pretty decent buffet breakfast.

Overall, an OK place to stay for a one night stay on a tight budget. Well located for the old town.

Stayed here for one night. It was difficult to find, but the reception and receptionist was welcoming. Keys in hand, the lift took us up and we entered a basic room. It was hot but thankfully our aircon worked (friends in another room did not!). Slept well. Breakfast was basic; not much different from that experienced on my trek!.
Overall, I would stay here if you are looking for cheap(ish) no thrills accommodation. That is what I wanted and it delivered.
If you like plush or good quality, then not for you.

"If you are a non smoker then avoid this place like the plague, as all signs and non smoking in rooms are ignored. On the other hand a smokers paradise. Breakfast poor. No tea/coffee making facilities in room but pleanty of ash trays!! Staff stalk loudly outside rooms so be prepared for sleep depravation. Not a quiet hotel. Little respect for guest needs."
