Posada Plaza Major is a lovely inn just across the River Plata from Buenos Aires in Uruguay. Short distance from the ferry to the Inn. Then you can walk over the small coastal town. The rooms are very romantic, stone walls, lovely fabrics, very clean bathrooms. Breakfast upstairs in a very lovely room - antiques. The service was very good....

I am so happy to review this Posada. Left the hustle and buzz of BA for a few days of peace. Staying in Room 6. it's pricey ($12o) for a fairly simple inn, but all of SA is pricier these days. Front desk person, Marcelo, is my new hotel hero. He has charged my Kindle/iPhone and netbook with hisadapter. When...

A wonderful little hotel in the perfect location. The staff was attentive and wonderful, our room (two single beds) was plenty big enough for two people - we had a garden room and it was quiet and peaceful each of our three nights.

This trip to Uruguay was a "side trip" within a three-month visit to Argentina. We spent two nights at this really lovely hotel with a beautiful courtyard garden complete with a fountain at its centre. Our room was perfectly quiet and in the morning, upon opening the shutters to the sun, brilliant blue sky and greenery outside, we heard and...

We had one night in Colonia, travelling from Buenos Aires. Colonia was a lovely break away from the city and we had a wonderful stay at this pousada. It is right in the middle of the old town, so within a few steps of most of Colonia's old sites. Our room (which was a basic one I think) was roomy,...

The hotel has been nicely converted from the original buildings; Rooms are simple - Ground floor rooms have no windows but open out via "French Doors" onto the central courtyard. Bathroom nicely thought out (well placed shower) but some fixtures showing their age a little. Simple buffet breakfast, but no restaurant - but there are many redtaurants within a few...

I had a confirmed reservation for yard-facing room, or as they put in in their confirmation, "standard facing-garden (double doors with glasses and shutters / no window)." Upon arrival we were placed into a room of a different type, the one with a window to the street. I asked for a room of the type I reserved but got an...

Hotel Plaza Mayor is in the perfect location to spend a day or two exploring the historic town of Colonia. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and the hotel was very charming. The only drawback - the rooms were quite small and sparse with very uncomfortable beds.

The room was not worth the money, tv was not hooked to cable, fridge did not work, noisy place. Nice courtyard

This was a very nice place to stay in Colonia del Sacramento. The accomodation was clean and simple and the people were very nice and helpful. The location was ideal, right in the heart of the old city, and is close to a couple of bars and several restaurants. I would recommend the Plaza Major to anyone going to Colonia...
