Arrived in Colonia before any place open Weather turned nasty and we desperately needed shelter which we found here Not only did Martin invite us in, he served us capuchinno and biscuits And kept us company until the fog lifted If this is the way he treats strangers in need. then I have no doubt he is the perfect host... I decided to give it a try because of the latest review from a traveler.stating that it was "fantastic" In the pics it looked decent. I was given a very basic small room in the back of the building with just the bed, two little nightstands and a very small side table with one chair. , with no view,no radio... More

San Gabriel Guesthouse has just re opened after being closed for 2 years, newly renovated, the rooms are clean and bright, with excellent air conditioning and good showers. The owners greeted us with warmth and kindness, much like a long lost friend is greeted upon returning home. They could not have been more helpful. The family room was perfect for... More

We stayed for four nights in a superior (river facing) room in August 2013. The hotel is in the centre of the old district, just of the Plaza Major. The owner, who speaks excellent English, couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. The room is quiet, spacious and well laid out. A good breakfast was served in the adjoining restaurant.... A small room, at ground level, which on first entering felt cold and damp. The heat pump did help to solve this problem. The bed was a basic double with only a stuffed mattress on a flat base, so not all that comfortable. Breakfast was also rather miserly, with a few small croissants and breads and a lukewarm milked coffee.... More

We stayed here for one nigh on a visit to Colonia. Based on the reviews on trip advisor we thought that it looked reasonable and proceeded with the booking. We recieved a helpful email from the owner with check in out times, options to pay in various currencies (anything but US dollars is an unfavourable rate). We arrived, walked five... More

My wife and I truly enjoyed our recent 3 night stay at the San Gabriel Guest House and Restobar. The guest house is conveniently located in the centre of the old town, within walking distance of the ferry terminal (or a short 80 to 100 peso taxi ride) and to the “downtown” business core of Colonia.. Our room, although small,... More

We stayed at the hotel San Gabriel and we did read all the reviews and wished we had listened. The hotel is near the sea and it is clean but the rooms are tiny. For the money you pay there aredefinitely better deals out there. We kept tripping over the furniture. The patio and breakfast area are additions to the... More

Been travelling 3 months with my daughter on about $65 per person per day so could be considered an upper "budget" type traveler. Found Uruguay quite expensive compared to Peru and Bolivia and even Argentina. This small inn was cheaper than two other budget priced lodgings listed in guide book but offered more charm and peace and was better located.... More

Myself and a friend stayed here 2 nights and ended up in a room downstairs that contained a bunk bed and a single bed. The room was not particularly clean and the pillows very old and manky. We did happen to see into another room ( which was occupied by someone else ) which looked a lot better, but based... More
