We arrived too late for station pick up and dinner and these times were strictly adhered to. 2 rooms booked and had shared bathroom unfortunately too late booking to get a room with bathroom but more than happy with shared families. Managed to use the family bathroom although my niece and I found this room far to hot for us... More

Takayama was a great experience. The city offers a typical village and old village to visit. We really loved the train ride from there to Tokyo as well, The Ryokan offers all the basics, and is in a quite area but is not very comfortable. Room is dated and amenities are ok. You can use the washing/drying machine which is... More

Friendly staff and although it cost me Y400 to get my washing done, and dried, at least now I have some fresh clothes. Rooms were sizable. Fulton on floor. Safe available but you had to pay to use it. Fridge available but was empty. Hot water jugs delivered and left outside the room each day. Face wash basins in the... More

Before going, we checked all previous TA opinions. Now, we have to conclude that either most of the visitors went somewhere else or they have never been to a decent ryokan. Not surprising that there is no ladatory opinion written by a Japanese visitor. Really, it's more a hostel than a ryokan. Noisy, a little dirty, filthy carpets, rooms numbered... More

Great stay at this affordable Ryokan! Stayed in a large room with little balcony and private bathroom, though made full use of the family onsen. Its not in the town centre but that suited us perfectly. There was a free shuttle service into town in the morning and there is cheap bus service into town. The Ryokan is very close... More

We spent 2 nights here, outside buiding is not very charming but room was really very nice and big. Traditional, with tatami and futon. Overall structure, is not very original, buth there is also the possibility to spend time for free in a traditional bath with your family or friends only. 2 kilometers far from downtown

The Murayama is a simple, no frills ryokan located about a 30 min walk outside of town. Rooms are Japanese style, bare with tatami. Bathrooms are shared and common sink areas are provided in the hallway for brushing teeth, shaving, general wash up. Place is a tad shabby, but very clean. This is a good standby for a stopover, but... More

Excellent service, good location, vey clean, nice rooms, good onsen, helpful staff and all you can ask from a good ryokan. If you decide to visit Takayama, this is a good place to stay at an affordable price, considering local prices and quality places.

We spent two night here and enjoyed our visit. The owner was very friendly and helpful, as were the other staff. Our room was a traditional Japanese room that was very spacious. There are three onsens, one for males, one for females and one for a couple or family. Breakfasts, either Japanese or western were good. The location is very... More

We stayed here for 1 night and it was fine for the price, but not great. It is really far from central Takayama with nothing really around it - about a 30 minute walk into beginning of town. The rooms were small and very closely packed. The only shower is an onsen which was perfectly clean and fine. Works if... More
