Stayed here. The place is situated strategically. I am a simple traveler so I am not really into expensive hotels. This one serves its purpose. Very near to the places I want to go. I will recommend this to my friends

This well located - short 8 minute still to train station and in the older part of town ( and only a short walk to the really old part of town). This was authentic Japanese experience - shoes off and only Japanese breakfast available inc cook your own meat on a hot plate ( I liked this but if you...

Ryokan Seiryu is not a big hotel by any standards but it has a very good location where you can explore the whole of Takayama city on foot. Admittedly, this was not my first choice but quite a number of the other ryokans I had wanted to book were already full (and that was more than 4 months' ahead!), so...

Easy walk from the railway station - 5 minutes. Irritating that we had to wait until precisely 3 o'clock to check in. Traditional room with a tatami mat floor, paper walls and lots of slippers. The location was excellent with easy access to the walking trails, shrines, morning market, saki tasting shops, traditional houses. We ate in our room and...

The staff her are pleasant and friendly and this was the only place in town we could find a room during the festival. But overall it desperately needed some investment and an upgrade. The food was traditional Japanese that was presentable but not the best we've tried. As it's an all in one price you go with the flow unless...

We had very high expectations of the ryokan experience recommended by friends. Unfortunately we were deeply disappointed. The hotel is very basic, old and shabby. The room tiny and basic, hardly managed to fit our luggage. Bathroom basically non-existent. The service also pretty disappointing - we expected to be dressed in kimonos, have tea serving, feel the typical Japanese atmosphere....

Booked 4 rooms for a one-night family trip, including double, triple and quad. Booking portal easy to use but a multiple room booking wasn't possible. Rates vary from about ¥10000 to ¥13500 (western triple) per person for stay and breakfast/dinner. The ¥3500 difference was a little odd. Service staff were excellent and helpful. Breakfast and the Hida Beef dinner was...

I like this hotel already after entering it. The service of staff are really good and they consider our situation (maybe we all look so tired at that time). The dinner and breakfast were good with local beef. Location is excellent when we planned to go to famous spot in Takayama. We love this hotel, small but clean and quiet.

Stayed here for 1 night in a room that was spacious enough for my family of 4. Rather old-style with the "push-in" type buttons on the lift. Location was good, about 8 mins walk from the JR station and it's really a stone's throw away from the main shopping areas and morning market. Loved the special welcome touch of placing...

Having stayed at a 5 star ryokan in Kyoto, this place was a letdown. Not the ryokan's fault though. The staff was great in meeting many requests except for one: vegetarian meals so I chose not to have any meals in the ryokan. The smell of Hida beef permeated through the hallways of the top floor. So future vegetarian travellers,...
