Noting that we are in the 21st century, this is still a very charming, hospitable and very friendly ryokan. Our hostess was excellent and organised a very fulfilling and high quality meal for our family group of five. Very clean and neat rooms. Overall, a very charming place. I definitely return here.

Outside of the central location I think the staff are the highlight of this place, always very attentive and offering great service. The food was also quite good. That said, the rooms need an upgrade, I was honestly pretty disappointed with the physical quality especially compared to the photos on the website. The bathrooms are also tiny (my husband referred...

Very polite staff many of them speaking good English. We had an interesting conversation with the young woman taking us to our room and serving our lovely dinner later in the evening. Room was warmer than in some ryokans we've visited. Onsen was quite small for so many ladies. Yoy can also visit another onsen in the nearby hotel if...

It is close to station and easy to locate. We booked a triple room with tatami for 2 people so the space is big. The room is basic and traditional Japanese style. The room charge is including a Japanese dinner and breakfast. If you don't eat beef, it is better to inform the hotel when booking. Since they prepare the...

We had evening meals served in our room which was great. We also made use of the spa facilities at their sister hotel 5 minutes walk away. We had a traditional room which was large enough. The staff are very friendly and helpful

A relaxing cozy retreat in the heart of Takayama. Perfect for if you plan a getaway trip to Takayama and need to walk to majority of your locations. Close to the station, a convenience store nearby & not far from any of the tourist destinations. If we visited Takayama again, we’d come back without hesitation. We did not try the...

Stayed here. The place is situated strategically. I am a simple traveler so I am not really into expensive hotels. This one serves its purpose. Very near to the places I want to go. I will recommend this to my friends

This well located - short 8 minute still to train station and in the older part of town ( and only a short walk to the really old part of town). This was authentic Japanese experience - shoes off and only Japanese breakfast available inc cook your own meat on a hot plate ( I liked this but if you...

Ryokan Seiryu is not a big hotel by any standards but it has a very good location where you can explore the whole of Takayama city on foot. Admittedly, this was not my first choice but quite a number of the other ryokans I had wanted to book were already full (and that was more than 4 months' ahead!), so...

Easy walk from the railway station - 5 minutes. Irritating that we had to wait until precisely 3 o'clock to check in. Traditional room with a tatami mat floor, paper walls and lots of slippers. The location was excellent with easy access to the walking trails, shrines, morning market, saki tasting shops, traditional houses. We ate in our room and...

“If you do decide to stay here, spring for the second highest Japanese room category. You'll get double the space we had with the lowest Japanese room category for only a few thousand yen more, and you will enjoy your stay quite a bit more because of it.”
