Very clean & comfortable accomodation we spent 2 nights here, we are a little older & we found it quite a distance from the station with suitcases. It is very convenient to shops & restaurants. Found it a little expensive to eat breakfast & dinner at ryokan.

Ryokan Tanabe has very good location in Takayama, staff is very friendly and will take good care of you, spotlessly clean, in-room-dining is amazing, has private bath, walking distance to morning market and old town, dead middle of all kinds of restaurants, convenience store just practically next door across the street. The indoor onsen is very nice as well. Docking...

Who would have expected to walk from a busy street into the past. A part of the lost Japan which has given way to the American model. As one leaves one's shoes before stepping on to the tatami mats one enters the type of atmosphere one hopes people have come to Japan to find. The rooms are outstanding for a...

We did not stay here but we did visit the onsen due to tickets we had though our rental home. It was lovely, clean, and the staff were very kind. I would recommend and come back. There are two small outside tubs (fun in the chilly weather) and one large bath inside.

First of all, I did the homework of researching the rooms before booking, which I see is something that other reviewers neglected to do. We had room 13, which had a private onsen and garden, was at the end of a hallway and was very quiet. The elderly folk who checked us in and took care of us were adorable....

We stayed in this ryokan for 2 nights and were totally relaxed! This place is run by an old couple, we were treated with amazing respect - as Japanese can do! Our room was spacious with private bathroom, perfectly clean. Our breakfast and dinner was very good, our host was explaining us every dish and served the table so precisely...

The ryokan is very well located along the main street of Takayama's Historic district n within walking distance from the old town. The elderly lady who runs the place is energetic, spritely n is a fine example of Japanese hospitality. The place is very clean n there are so many little efforts made to ensure your stay is a unique...

We stayed at the Ryokan Tanabe for two nights based on the good reviews from Tripadvisor. Within our holiday in Japan, we were looking for the true experience of a real ryokan. Even if one can consider that staying at the Tanabe did provide this truthfull experience, we now deem this choice as a major mistake. In general I concur...

A very plesant and charismatic Ryokan. Great service, excellent rooms and superb food. The place is run by a group of older, fragile looking Japanese women, but make no mistake, they are top professional, very helpful, great sense of humour and simply just make you feel welcome and at home. Dinner is simply and experience on its own. Takayama is...

Wanted to experience a couple ryokans during our trip to Japan, with this being one of them Overall, a good experience -- very traditional rooms, wonderful breakfasts and dinners, friendly service. Would say that English speaking ability can be limited at times, so would advise those visiting to re-double their efforts to learn as many important Japanese words as you...
