We stayed here for 3 nights, this was a great place to relax after a few busy days in Kyoto. The service was amazing, the staff went out of their way to ensure everything was okay. We ordered the dinner one night and breakfast one morning. Considering the price, the dinner was average compared to some of the other traditional... More

I stayed here for 2 nights with a friend and it was amazing. The traditional breakfast and dinner we were served was beautifully prepared and tasted out of this world. The staff too were so helpful and nice. They also loved to engage us in conservation and attempted to teach us some Japanese. A must visit if you come to... More

We stayed here based on recommendations here on Trip Advisor and we were not disappointed. After a few days of the hustle and bustle of Tokyo Takayama was such a wonderful place to come visit and Ryokan Tanabe was a big part of this. Mama Tanabe (as we nicknamed her) is the sweetest, hard case inn keeper you will find,... More

Stayed here for two nights while in takayama. Very central location and short 8min walk to bus/train station. Ryokan was clean and spacious. We had dinner here one night and breakfast both mornings. Food was good, not excellent but simple and tasty. Service was great, staff were friendly and spoke some English. Rooms themselves Was a bit older but clean... More

Close to everything including shops and restaurants. The staff was friendly. Takayama is great place to visit in November. The food was excellent as most ryokans. Everything was in walkable distance. We especially enjoyed the small shops.

We had a great stay here - the owners are lovely, friendly and accommodating. Rooms were beautiful, futons comfy and a lovely bath/shower room ensuite. Good choice of kimonos and a very relaxing onsen here- not too busy. Breakfasts and dinner were also very good with a nice selection of local foods and a range of dishes. Highly reccommended!

Very well run, very friendly, top-notch food . Accommodations were excellent. We ate breakfast and dinner for the two days there and were highly impressed and full - even the teenagers, who ate enthusiastically. Plenty of fuel for full day on foot . 8-10 min walk from train and bus station, similarly to in-town sights. 30 seconds to the morning... More

We stayed in this ryokan during our round trip through Japan. We booked the small traditional Japanese room with the tatami bed. The rooms are somewhat outdated, but the extremely friendly staff is unforgettable. We enjoyed the kaiseki dinner and the Japanese breakfast was also great. It is about a 10 minutes form the train station.

This place is simply lovely, the staff and in particular the owner are so warm and welcoming, the traditional futon rooms are very comfortable and the Japanese meals a lovely way to sample local cuisine. We used the Onsen baths one evening and were lucky enough to have them to ourselves which was a great way to relax after a... More
