Minshuku Kuwataniya is a lovely little place only minutes from Takayama station. The rooms are big and some look out onto the temple opposite. The mens and women's baths are roomy and incredibly relaxing. The host is very efficient, warm and with her limited english she will explain anything you need to know including the different dishes of meal served....

I booked the western style twin room with bathroom via email directly with the site owner. Although the staff actually spoke minimal English, they are able to respond all of my English emails promptly and accurately. The website that had their minshuku information only offer rates with meals but if you write to the staff, you can request for rates...

This is a family inn located conveniently between Takayama train station and the major tourist areas of Takayama. The room was spacious and clean and had a fridge for any food purchases. There were shared toilets, and also hot-spring baths (one for men, one for women). They offer dinner and breakfast, but we only had the breakfast there, which was...

We stayed for one night in a Western style room which included a bathroom. The room was small but for one night it didn't really matter. We also booked the meals which included a Kaiseki dinner as well as a traditional Japanese Breakfast. The food was excellent and the price is reasonable. The staff at this Minshuku is very friendly...

We stayed two nights in a Japanese style room. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The room is large and the futons are quite comfortable. The japanese style room does not have a bathroom or even a sink. Using the communal onsen baths is standard in a japanese minshuku and the baths were clean. For the price having to...

I'm quite amazed why nobody mentioned the noice level there in all the valuations before. For us it was almost a sleepless night. They have at least three rooms if not more directly facing the street where the buses and all other vehicles keep passing by till late in the night and starting very early in the morning. The windows...

The Guesthouse is near the station and the town centre. It is spotless. We had a western room with its own bathroom. Flat screen TV, tee and biscuit in room. High speed internet in the foyer. The room was large for a Japanese hotel. We did not book a meal at the Guesthouse but fellow guests who did said that...

We stayed here in Dec. 09. This minshuku is quite near train station, just 10 minutes walk with 2 large baggage. Ms Takagaki (the owner) is very kind and helpful. By the way, as Japanese tradition, you have to take off shoes before entering the minshuku. There are foot lockers for each room, though. We ordered dinner from the minshuku....
