This hostel is a temple and that makes your stay a special experience! The place is very quiet, so if you're looking for some action go somewhere else. The kitchen is big, the common room cozy and the rooms supercozy in japanese style! And I really enjoyed the zen garden! The nun is friendly. Unfortunately she doesn't speak English very...

Our traditional Japanese twin room was extremely big, clean and comfy. The host Yukina was very welcoming, kind and helpful. It was a different place to stay in, we have never stayed in a working temple before and we would highly recommend it.

This place has a very interesting history, which the hostesses does not tell you up unless you chat with her for sometime. We encountered her in the share kitchen common area one night, and she told us the history of Zenkoji. The temple has been in her family since 1893, and her grandfather and parents are unable to take care...

We stayed here for 3 nights. It was awesome and very welcoming. The nun that is running the place does an excellent job introducing new guests to the temple/hostel. Everything is kept in super clean conditions. There are 2 showers to use (all clean). If you really need to takr a shower on time there is a list you can...

We stayed 2 nights in this special place, it's a hostel attached to a temple, in which sometimes they also let you sleep in should normal rooms are fully booked. The rooms are XXL and japanese style, clean, and without AC but fans equipped. The staff is helpful and really kind. The hostel has a full equipped kitchen you can...

this was definitely the most quiet hostel on our trip. there is some zen in the air. i guess the very nice temple (a part of the hostel) has something to do with it. there are rooms towards the inner garden which is beautiful and rooms look very japanese. i would recommend those ones. with my sister we got the...

This was an odd one, it was recommended to us by two travellers as it's cheap and we thought the temple vibe would be interesting. Unfortunately there was like zero atmosphere here - apparently it was full when we were here but the place doesn't really lend itself to much socializing which is fine if you want to relax, there...

I enjoyed my stay here. This hostel is quiet and peaceful with a homey atmosphere. Bathrooms were clean and small towels provided. There is also tea of nescafe stocked in the kitchen - which is large and offers plenty of space to prepare your own food and socialize with other travelers. Our room adjoined another room and was separated by...

Our family of 4 (with boys aged 7, 10) found this place comfortable and well located. We enjoyed meeting other travellers around the kitchen table and found the shared facilities perfectly adequate. It is one of the cheapest places we stayed in during our visit to Japan and found the rooms spacious, the futons comfortable, and the kitchen well set...

Had a memorable stay here. The place had a lovely atmosphere of calm and quiet. The lady who welcomed us was lovely and showed us everything we needed. Lovely little garden that I used for some yoga practice :-) The room was fine - pretty basic as expected but clean and pleasant. It looked like one or two of the...
