#22 of 134 hotels in Kanazawa
Travellers' Choice
Opened in August 2017 after renovating the old office building of 44 years in the center of Kanazawa city. KUMU is a community-based hotel aiming for a "cultural salon" where acclaimed creators active in Kanazawa gather and connect the traditional culture of Kanazawa to the future. Incorporating details that make craftsmen handicraft feel, in a design that makes use of the expression of concrete after dismantling interior, the hotel is creating a tasteful space. You can enjoy the space that makes you feel Zen's aesthetic such as "imperfections and simplicity". As a place where tourists and local people gather, KUMU has a share spaces, where events and workshops are held. All rooms are composed of private rooms that can accommodate a maximum of 4 people. KUMU offers a total of 6 kinds from traditional Japanese tatami rooms to reasonable room consisting of bunk beds. In the morning, you can have freshly baked breads and fresh vegetable salads, egg dishes, ham etc. in buffet style.

We booked a family room at the KUMU Kanazawa. The hotel is beautifully designed with shared spaces throughout. Our room was very spacious for 2 adults and 2 young children with individual futons for each of us. There was also a generous sitting area for hanging out. Separate bathroom and toilet completes the room layout. Location-wise, the KUMU was convenient for us. A 15 minute walk from the train station and 5 minutes away from the local fish market. Other major sights are also not too far away. Overall a fantastic hotel choice. Highly recommended!

A modern hotel with limited services but importantly it does everything a hotel should well. A very good location in the town centre, great rooms and very friendly staff. We enjoyed the rental bikes, the communal tea tables to work and a drink in the lobby. Again very good !

Typhoon Hagibis perhaps not the best time to review a hotel! Albeit the impact of that devastating typhoon in Kanazawa was just a very wet day indeed and some disrupted trains the next day - we were lucky and cant complain. So this hotel provided a port in a storm for just one night and for that it was ideal and was very good value for money. We loved the simple and cool design, taking away lots of ideas for our business back home! the breakfast in particular was one of the best we experienced in all our Japan hotels. a nice mix of Japanese and Western options Rooms are functional and designed brilliantly; beds and pillows pretty hard, and usual frustration at not being able to open a window. but other than that this place is exactly what it says on the tin

We loved this place. The staff are friendly and speak good english. The location is central to everything in Kanazawa. The breakfast offered a much needed dose of veggies. It is not cheap but it is worth it and the room was super comfortable. Good value.

Very cool hotel and competitively priced. As a family of 4 we stayed in room with bunks and it was a good choice. Large room gave plenty of room for luggage as well as us to hang out in small lounge area. Shower was comfortably the best we experienced in Japan (actual water pressure!). Well located and reasonably central to most of the points of interest in Kanazawa. The staff at checkin were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Our only regret was that we stayed one night. Kanazawa is a cool city and this hotel matches it. If you aren't in a hurry could recommend staying in Kanazawa for a couple of nights at this hotel.
