I spent one night at Murataya while visiting Kanazawa and I liked this little family run ryokan. Location is very good, right behind a busy, bustling area, but nestled in a quiet little side street. It’s just a 10-15 minutes walk to the Kenrokuen and the contemporary art museum. I was welcomed by a young man who spoke good English... More

This ryokan offers great service and a good location for a steal. The owners/staff were extremely helpful with everything from the room, to directions and food/entertainment recommendations. I couldn't get used to the shared shower facility though. 1 per gender for the whole place, so you had to walk up and down checking if it was unoccupied. My room was... More

The best thing about Murataya is its location. It is situated right in the middle of the city and great access to food places and attractions. 10 minutes walk to Kenrokuen, Nagamachi, or the Nishi Chaya districts. Also just a short stroll to the main Katamachi area to hop on to the circular bus route going around Kanazawa city. Murata-ya... More

A relatively small ryokan, very beautiful yet unpretentious. Extremely friendly staff. Great value for your money. Good location near a bus stop and within walking distance to Kanazawa's main attractions. They don't provide dinner, which is nice because other places force it upon you when all you're looking for is a simple bowl of ramen. There is also a hot... More

I HIGHLY recommend staying at Murataya Ryokan. Throughout our stay, we were welcomed warmly and given sound advice about the local area including where the best restaurants were. This advice even stretched to the host offering to come with us to a restaurant that did not speak English. We were also given reliable advice about the next leg of our... More

Nothing but good things to say about the Murataya Ryokan in the lovely city of Kanazawa. First of all its location is excellent, in the middle of downtown, close to the tourist bus that takes you to all the sites, restaurants and shopping, but down a quiet side street away from the hustle and bustle. The ryokan is charming. Impeccably... More

Murataya was a special place from the moment we stepped in the door and were welcomed with a cup of a tea and local sweet. The staff were incredibly helpful and attentive, our room was excellent in the Japanese style, as was the breakfast. We could not have been happier with our experience, everything was just as we hoped for... More

We did a quick 1.5-day visit to Kanazawa from Takayama before heading back to Osaka and decided we would avoid big hotels and stay somewhere a little more traditional. Murataya Ryokan was honestly the greatest decision! It's about 10-15 minutes away from Kanazawa station by taxi or you can take the bus (located in Katamachi district). We were welcomed with... A friend and I stayed at Murataya ryokan for three nights. It was the best choice I made. Granted it is not within a walking distance from the Kanazawa JR station, but it is smack dab in downtown Kanazawa within walking distance from all the major attractions: museums, Kenrokuen, Kanazawa castle & park, Samurai quarters, geisha quarters AND the shopping... Stayed here for a night. The innkeepers were a group of nice chaps who are very helpful, especially when we consulted them on popular local restaurants. They have actually prepared a hand-drawn map of the popular places and restaurants around the inn for hotel guests ! Rooms are clean and comfortable. Would need to take a bus from Kanazawa Station...
