The hotel is close to the castle, Nawate Street and many restaurants. All which are in walking distance. The staff were extremely helpful and we even got upgraded to a better room. The rooms are pretty big by Japan standards and comfortable. There is an onsen at the basement of the hotel but it is not fancy. I did find...

We stayed in this hotel for two nights. The hotel is situated very close to the castle and is close to numerous other tourist attractions. Go to the Roof Top viewing point for a great night view of the Castle and wider Matsumoto. As mentioned by other reviewers the layout of the hotel is rather quirky but has a good...

We spent 3 nights in Matsumoto, The hotel kagetsu was absolutely amazing, the staff were super friendly and helpful, the room was immaculate, the bathroom... the BATHROOM was incredible! There was a fullsize bath and shower, beautiful flooring and gorgeous toiletries. The bed was super comfortable as well! We loved every minute of our stay at the hotel and would...

For Japan, this hotel is very reasonably priced for a family. They have a nice, not fancy, onsen. Their toiletries are great. The staff is tremendously kind! We did not get the exact family room that we requested but it was very spacious and they were accommodating. It is super close to the castle. We would definitely stay here again...

Although this hotel is not really on a par with modern international standards, It's so much the better for it, it's quirkiness left me feeling that I'd love to come back here one day and hope it hasn't changed a bit! This hotel is down a narrow little road and quite central, it's about a 15 minute walk from the...

We had just finished a 3 day walk on the kiso road and were looking forward to a nice room and a hot relaxing soak in the hotel onsen. We were not dissapointed. The hotel had a nice feel - modern yet with traditional look and feel. And warm. Check in was efficient and the staff were helpful. The room...

My guide book (Lonely Planet) had said the hotel was showing some wear and tear but they're either snobs or Kagetsu has definitely refurbished - the hotel was quite luxurious! Staying the right side of horribly corporate, Kagetsu is traditionally decorated with modern touches. The staff are helpful, attentive and many speak good English. With rooms decorated calmly and cleanly,...

We stayed here for one night in late October. The hotel is lovely. Simple, quiet rooms and a wonderful onsen. The staff was friendly and helpful and the haori provided was beautiful. Good traditional breakfast. Would definitely stay again.

The hotel is just a couple blocks from the Castle and a 15-20 min walk to the train station. Matsumoto is easy to get around. After the tiny rooms in Tokyo, you'll love the rooms here. The onsen was not bad. The outfit in the room was comfortable. The Western breakfast was good. As usual in Japan, the staff was...

This hotel was by far the best out of the places we stayed at in Japan during our two weeks holiday. The room was huge. It was twice the size of the room we stayed in in Tokyo and definitely bigger than the rooms in Kyoto and Takayama. The bed was so comfortable, the bathroom was well stocked, staff were...
