This was my first trip to Japan and staying at an onsen/ryokan was a MUST. We had a party of 5.....so we had 2 rooms....for 2 nights..... To get a truly "Japanese experience", I got 2 "Iyashi rooms".......Japanese tatami rooms and private onsen baths on the balcony.......It was a blast.......my wife & I loved it....You don't need to go "down"...

(1) The shuttle bus was just that--a decent bus, but by no means announcing "you are headed to a $500+ night ryokan" (luggage was piled up in the front few seats). The shuttle bus ride up the mountain was rather harrowing, as the road is narrow and winding with many blind curves. (2) Arrival/check-in was smooth, because we had a...

We stayed around Christmas in Dec 2015, and everything was just extraordinary and totally lived up to our expectations! We arrived in the late afternoon after a 2-hour hike in the snow, so the first thing we did after checking-in was to try out their 3 different public onsen on the property to warm ourselves up! All 3 were great,...

A visit to Japan would not be complete without experiencing a traditional Ryokan (Japanese Inn) and Onsen (hot spring spa). We believe that Tobira Onsen near Matsumoto is one of the best in Japan. From the first warm greeting at the train station we were treated like honoured guests. The food is exquisite and balanced with a seasonal and thoughtful...

English follows Japanese部屋は綺麗で料理も美味しい。が、サービスが随所で行き届かず非常に残念。普段レストランや宿などでサービスも料金の内と思っている人にはおすすめできません。rooms are very authentic and foods are nice but service is very poor cosidering the price. if you care about hardware, this is the place. if you know the importance of software, I don't recommend.

We stayed at Myojinkan from 1 - 4 December 2015 (3 nights). We were a bit worried that we had overpaid for a package that wouldn't delivered- scarred from previous experiences. Well, this was not an issue at Myojinkan - the property is unbelievable, the service so attentive! The staff genuinely care about their guests and go out of their...

We were hoping for a "luxury ryokan experience" at Myojinkan, and it delivered this to a certain extent. The location is lovely and our arrival & check-in were handled smoothly. What is immediately apparent is that this is by no means a "secret" or "hidden" property; It is a fairly large, very polished weekend getaway destination for tourists both japanese...

Nice ryokan. Great location in the mountains, away from busy matsumoto. However, we booked a room with "amazing views over the mountains", but it was nothing like that unfortunately. We also got a room right next to a kitchen and above a road. So after 1 night we switched rooms. New room was more quiet but still no amazing view...
