The hotel is located at the opposite end of street from Otaru station and just in front of the Otaru canal. The design of the building both inside and outside blends in well with the surrounding, gives a very nostalgic vibe.
Stayed a few nights at the hotel and was very happy with its service and room. The room may be dated but everything works and there are even modern convenience like USB charging points. House keeping was impeccable, love coming back to the room and every time everything is neat and clean. Front desk service was also superb; efficient and yet you could feel their warm and friendly service. Special shoutout to a particular energetic front desk lady (sorry for not catching her name) that helped sorted out our blunder on 2 occasions, the first for locking out the room safe and another time for forgetting the room key. The most impressive part was that she took it herself to personally attend to each of the issue and was totally friendly and helpful throughout. Thank you for making our stay especially memorable.
The location of the hotel also makes it ideal to explore the city. Not too far from all the main tourist attractions but not too near till it’s crowded or noisy.
Recommend this place also because they have larger rooms that can accommodate a small family of 3 staying together. However these rooms don’t come with great view. But it’s still fine with us as there are so much to see and do outside.
Will look forward to returning for another stay when there is an opportunity.

Hotel Nord has a distinctive dome, and strategic located at the junction of Otaru canal. Further along the road and back has lots of restaurants, Le Tao cake house, small street food and many glass shops plus iconic music box shop.
Very courteous front desk, the lady receptionists always "practically sprints" to get our vehicle from the mechanized car park.
An older hotel, still very maintained, clean rooms and bathroom, separate toilet interestingly and convenient. Loved the large bathroom shower adjoining the wash room.
Lift has the vintage dial and arrow for the floor indicator.

Thank you for staying at our hotel. As you said, our hotel is located in the center of the canal and tourist area, making it very convenient. Our staff always strives to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We move quickly to reduce the amount of time you have to wait for parking. Also, it is true that many of the facilities at our hotel are becoming older. We hope to be able to use it for a longer period of time by performing maintenance as often as possible. Thank you for taking the time to write your review.

A comfortable place to stay though the hotel might looked old but it was recently refurbished. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially when we arrived at the hotel. The staff rushed out to direct our car to the parking space as the auto-carpark was closed for refurbishment. The room was cleaned though my window did not have any good views, everything functioned as it should be. The location is good; near to the canal and the shopping streets.
Cafes and convenience stores were within walking distance too.
Overall a good place to stay when in the area.

Thank you for staying at our hotel. We apologize for any inconvenience caused due to construction work in the parking lot. However, we are very happy that you complimented the staff's response. As you said, the hotel is located right next to the canal, making it very convenient for sightseeing. If you come to Otaru again, please stay at our hotel again. Hotel Nord Otaru

Great location and cool looking from the outside but inside the rooms are in desperate need of a renovation. Everything is old and beat up. I wouldn’t stay here again until they put some money into the hotel. That said, great staff and is in convenient.

Service staff were poor. Expect plenty of blank looks and shrugging of shoulders.

Bar closed before closing time and we were rudely turned around without an apology. Staff at reception 'attempted' to help with questions but we were mostly left to 'figure it out' ourselves.

They will try to charge you for all extras - including if you need to borrow a bottle opener. Cutlery was non-existent in the room. Only one room key was given, which also has to be surrendered for the day if you are after room service.

Buffet breakfast was by far the worst we've had. Not up to International standards, and severely behind other Japanese offerings. Fare was average. Buffet layout has no flow/organisation to it, so everyone is literally bumping into each other trying to get food. We had a plate each before leaving to eat a real breakfast outside.

We booked this hotel because of friend's recommendation. They said the view from this hotel is nice with the iconic Otaru canal view. However, the room we got is on the opposite site of the canal so there is nothing but street. What we love about this hotel is room decoration in European homey style with separate toilet and bathroom. The room is spacious and comfortable. Our room did not include breakfast because we planned to find a good Japanese restaurant that serve breakfast in the morning. Surprisingly, no shops or restaurant open before 10 AM so we had to head back to the hotel for breakfast. So, I recommend the travelers to book the room with breakfast otherwise you will have to pay for it at the hotel anyway. The breakfast is not so variety but enough selection and all are delicious.

During its heyday as Hokkaido's financial hub, Otaru was known as the "Wall Street of the North" (ignore for the moment that New York is actually located at a higher latitude!)

Many lovely stone masonry buildings -- former bank buildings -- still exist from that era. While the Hotel Nord Otaru is a modern construction, I like that it had adopted that style.

The hotel uses one of those stacked system carparks, but happily, this one accommodates SUVs (such as our Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross). Throughout our two night stay, there was always a space for us, and our car was quickly dispensed at less than five minutes each time we needed it. When you pull in, the valet will clean your car of snow, and use a mallet to break off ice accumulated in your wheel arches, which is great service.

The hotel is ideally located along Otaru's famous canal, which also makes it a great location for the snow festival. (I believe the only other two establishments along the canal are the Furukawa and Sonia.) The following room categories have the view of the canal: Accessible Twin, Superior Twin, Executive Twin and both Grande types.

A couple of things to note: there are no laundry facitilites. And ice is a paid-for item, but thankfully at no markup (it was in fact ¥10 more expensive for the same tub at the kombini).

Disclaimer: This is entirely based on our own experience and observation.

The 2 women with bobbed hair at the front desk totally ignored us even though we greeted them (from what I could see, other foreigners who were chinese) and were super friendly to Japanese guests.

Attaching photos of carpets at corners of the room. Is this level of crusted dust in the carpet acceptable to you for the price you pay? Try other hotels in Otaru. We stayed in 2 others before & they were super friendly and hospitable.

Its my family's 1st trip together. I arrived from asahikawa earlier to the hotel @ 1pm and they insisted that I waited till 3pm. I was already very tired from the travel and lugging my luggage all the way from the JR station. After they rejected me of checking in early, I walked off. Then 15mins later they told me it's ok to check in now. The room was big but dated. It's located right in front of the famous canal. We stayed 2 nights here. Another unhappy thing is they didn't tell that I had to pay extra parking fee (which they are charging 1000¥ per parking) if I were to park it after check out time. The other hotels allowed me to park my car till 3pm! I checked out at 11am in Nord and went over to the canal to take some pictures. Came back at 11.30AM and was charged extra 400¥! Ridiculous! No one told me about the extra charges during check in. Then suddenly came running after me when I came to pick up the car. Hotel needs a good renovation.

It was a pleasant surprise to have ample room to walk around after staying at tiny Sapporo and Hakodate hotel rooms. There's three "rooms" for bathroom (one for toilet, another for the sink/changing area and another for the bathtub with separate shower), which was a bonus.

It is about a 10-15 minute walk from JR Otaru Station so taxi is not required (we had two large luggage and managed to walk to the station in less than 15 minutes in the snow). It is very close to Asakusabashi Bridge, which is the perfect location for a picture of Otaru Canal with a view of the romantic warehouses. Otaru Beer is less than 5 minute walk away. The popular Sakaimachi Street that runs parallel to the canal is only a 5-10 minute walk away. The location is wonderful.

The hotel staff was super friendly and helped us make a dinner reservation at the famous Masa Sushi on Otaru's Sushi Street via our email communications. The only drawback is that breakfast is not included, but there's plenty of eateries within walking distances for great breakfast options.

Definitely would return to this hotel on our next trip back to Otaru.

Dear Mr.bernard Thank you very much for your inquiry. The size of a single bed is 110 cm in width and 195 cm in length. In addition, in the case of accommodation with 4 people, there are rooms where four beds can be prepared by adding an extra bed. The size of the extra bed is 95 cm in width and 195 cm in length. Of course, even if you reserve two rooms for twin ok. In the hotel, the type that can be accommodated by 4 people is a room called Superior Twin. In this room type, we will prepare a bed with a total of 4 units, 2 single beds and 2 extra beds. Children aged 7 years and over are the same as adults, so if you have children aged 7 and over, please make an appointment as an adult. Well then, we are waiting for your reservation.
