We stayed here for one night, which is great as you can see the sights before the tour buses arrive. Welcomed on arrival by English speaking owner and given lots of information on the local area. The area is quiet but you can hear the river which was really nice after the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. The shared Japanese... More

In a quiet area by the river easy walking distance from the temples. The shared bathrooms are traditional Japanese style but our room was Western style. Breakfast was available but we went to the nearby Lawson convenience store instead to save some money. At reception they recommended Bell restaurant which is very close and we enjoyed dinner there. You can... More

We really enjoyed our stay at Turtle Inn. We were made to feel very welcome on arrival and had a very spacious traditional Japanese room. The room had a sink and then shared toilets just over the corridor. The baths were lovely - one single user and one bigger one that was great for two. Breakfast was really nice -... More

The Turtle Inn is a clean, pleasant small hotel, a bit removed from the crowds at the World Heritage sites....although within walking distance. There are some nice private tubs available for soaking. The 1,000 yen breakfast (only Western available when we were there) was good and worth ordering. Not many restaurant options close by, but it's a short bus ride... More

Loved our experience here at Turtle Inn. Shared bath, and great food. Very friendly staff here and will recommend to my friends. Traditional Japanese sleeping on futons on floor but no worries, very clean. Close to downtown, walking distance to many places.

We stayed in a Japanese style room with shared bathroom and couldn't have been happier with Turtle Inn. The staff are very welcoming and gave us a map and directions to all the local attractions, nearby restaurants and convenience stores and info on passes to the shrines. The facilities are clean and there's an onsen style bathroom. The inn is... More

Stayed at Turtle Inn for one night for site seeing of the Shrines and temples. The location is a bit outside of the main Nikko town centre. This was very good for quick access to the site seeing destinations; however it was difficult to find, and there were very few restaurants open at this end of town (only 1 we... More

We had some trouble finding Turtle Inn. It is not in the main area of Nikko town (about a 20-30min walk) and it is located on a back street. There is a turtle sign but it's hard to see! After dark this area is like a ghost town. We struggled to find somewhere to have dinner. The rooms are also... More

This was our first experience of a Japanese Inn and we really enjoyed it. We had beds rather than futons, which at our age (70's), is a great help. Everything was clean, neat and tidy. No in room frig or tea making facilities, but a common frig was nearby and tea making available at all times in the dining room.... More

Great if you have a car, or can give directions to the taxi driver. It is a 10 minutes’ walk to the main Nikko temple area, and to the and eerie Kanmangafuchi Abyss, with its red-clad Buddhas overlooking the rapids. The owner takes really good care of you. The rooms are typically Japanese small. There are two bathrooms with heated... More
