I was discouraged a little when I looked through hotel websites' photos of it. The hotel is actually in great conditions. It sits on the bank of a stream and practically next to a wonderful tourist spot. The hot bath is clean and lovely. The staff was fantastic. It's a bit far from bus stop, but the walk along the...

This is a lovely and traditional place to stay. The onsen, with views of the river, is lovely and can be used privately. It's available all night so ideal for an early dip if you're jet lagged. Free green tea available and excellent breakfast which is good value. Freshly prepared and delivered to your table. Rooms have private bathrooms.

It was a lovely ryokan, in a peaceful location with minimal traffic passing. The rooms had private bathrooms. The onsen was lovely and well worth a soak in! The futons were comfortable and the rooms had heaters so they were warm. The breakfast was good and served very promptly. The staff were lovely and very hospitable. For an authentic but...

Was there with my family last christmas of 2015. The location itself is quick in the deep end, from the train station, we took the taxi and inform the location (do take note that there is 2 turtle inn), hotori-ann is abit deeper, nearer to the "kanmangafuchi abyss" which is one of the attractions of Nikko, very spiritual place. It's...

We stayed at this ryokan for two nights as part of an organised Intrepid Tour. It is more your traditional ryokan, with low seats in the room and futons on the floor to sleep on. We had a bubbling creek right outside our room window. The room was quite large, by Japanese standards, with a low table and chairs, small...

Fantastic place. Free onsen for private use for 30 mins without reservation. Wonderful view of the river from window. The place actually looks much better than their photo in website. Walking distance to temples. Walk to city centre where the train station is will be bit far. Their breakfast is simple, serving bread, orange juice, coffee or tea (this is...

Spent one night here and enjoyed proximity to the Shrines. Room was clean and simple. The onsen was quite nice. Slate tiled, looked out onto the river below. It is a unisex bath, so you had to wait until it was available and then you go in with your group. Just two complaints about this inn: breakfast was overpriced for...

Every time we go to Nikko, we are staying at this ryokan. Although it's quite far away from the station (you should take the bus or even better a taxi, since also with the bus you will have to walk 10 to 15 minutes to reach the ryokan, depending on how heavy your luggage is ;) ), but it is...

This lovely little hotel is perfectly located in Nikko. It is on the river and off the main roads, so very quiet. Walking to the main Nikko sites takes about 20 mins. There is also a nice walking track along the river. Car parking was available just outside. We had a traditional Japanese room which was an ok size on...

I was living in Japan with either other Americans for ten weeks while we worked on another city. We traveled every weekend. We all stayed one night in three rooms. This was our first experience of traditional japanese rooms and they did not let us down.Futons were comfortable. It was somewhat difficult to find, but we eventually made it. We...
