I just stayed the night. Excellent accommodations. Clean very clean. Very personal feel and private. Very quiet. Mieko-san is a master chef and the best host. The breakfast I had almost made me cry. It was the best meal I had in Japan and I've gone to tsukiji at a highly rated sushi restaurant, had fugu in shibuya, gone to...

One of the best things about Hotobil (Guesthouse) is its fabulous location in the Historic District of Nara. It's great and totally safe to stroll around the narrow streets in the evenings, dine in the local eateries or have a drink in one of the nearby bars. Usually we stay in the centre of a town, location, location. location, but...

Hotobil is basically a small guesthouse run by a lovely old Japanese lady who rents out the two rooms on the top floor of her house. We slept in the large room which was very comfortable and had all the amenities that we required. She cooked us a fantastic Japanese breakfast in the morning which was delicious. I would recommend...

Thank you for nice welcome and lovely breakfast. The hostess is nice welcoming and accomodating. Place is big clean with cooking facilities and laundry just like home. Only drawback is distance from JR station for those on JR paas. I warmly recommend this place .

In July our family visited Japan and one of our aims was to experience staying in a Ryokan. We stayed two days and one night . When we arrived we were greeted by our lovely host who brought us refreshing kakigori a Japanese shaved ice dessert. We slept on futons , enjoyed a traditional breakfast and our host was accommodating...

Really enjoyed our stay at Hotobil. Prices of ryokan were a bit out of our price range and this was a great way to experience a traditional Japanese guesthouse without the huge price tag! As others have said, about 15-20 minute walk from the city center but conveniently located near JR Kyobate station. Such a friendly welcome from our host....

I would highly recommend this place. It is clean, pretty and well located not far from JR Kyobate station and within Naramachi district. The host was so warm and welcoming! She has the cutest doggie! The Japanese breakfast was the best I ever had! I wish we had stayed a second night.

We spent 2 nights there. When leaving will felt sad. The centerpiece of Hotobil is the host, she the essence of good host, honest, looking after guests and preparing best breakfast we ever had in any accommodation. Hints: it is c.a. 1 km from all tourists attractions but on the way you find spots worth visiting such as Japanese house...

Although we stayed for just 1 night, we all (a group of 4) felt the place was so relaxing and quiet. Bathroom and toliet were clean. The Japanese style tatami room is what we loved with comfortable futons rolling out at night. The dinner (at extra cost) was amazing and so does the breakfast which was complimentary. Thanks to the...

We just left Hotobil this morning and I couldn't wait to write a review, because this place was wonderful! If you are looking for peace and quiet, comfort, privacy, and incredible food, then Hotobil is the perfect guest house for you. On the day we arrived we were greeted with a iced-macha treat and it was wonderful! Breakfast in the...
