We stayed at Seikanso for one night, after a lavish traditional ryokan experience in Kyoto. While Seikanso couldn't compare to our other ryokan, I was extremely happy with Seikanso. It is a very good deal, one of our cheapest hotels but absolutely lovely. It is not a traditional ryokan, as it is huge (you will definitely see other guests while...

An old and traditional ryokan ideally located in one of the prettiest districts of Nara: Naramachi. This ryokan offered excellent accommodation at very competitive prices in the budget range. The corridors would benefit some redecorating but have some interesting architectural features (unusual internal windows). We really enjoyed the peace and quiet of our large and bright room overlooking the wonderful...

This is probably the hotel/ryokan I liked the most during my stay in Japan when evaluating the value for money aspect. Yes, it is a little dated and shabby, but it feels like you're in Japan in the 60s or 70s, when not so many tourists were around and everything was more authentic. Saying this, the premises are clean and...

From the very first contact with the place until the day we checked out, our stay in this place (ryokan or ryokan style, it does not matter to me) was perfect. Rooms (Japanese style) are very good, the garden is very nice, the Japanese breakfast was delicious (the coffee was probably the best coffee we tried in Japan), the service...

We arrived in Nara around 7 or 8 pm, with the inn keeper greeting us warmly. The place itself is quaint in old charm, a little rough around the edges but felt like a true old-fashioned inn. Being our first time in a ryokan, it was a nice experience. My friend and I were able to experience the bath house...

Very nice experience in this typical ryokan. Location is great, very convenient to visit the central sights in Nara, 15 minutes by foot to station. It is also at the heart of a traditional neighborhood with small streets and typical houses. Shopping arcade just 200m away. Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are clean, with a view on a lovely...

Technically, this is not a ryokan but a ryokan-style hotel (and a sprawling one at that). It is quite huge, which translates into reasonable rates and an almost-assured vacancy. I was met by a gentle, elderly man who converses well in English. The first thing that struck me was state of the facility. It is not dirty but it is...

This place was amazing... it's been in their family for at least four generations and is still family run, which was refreshing and added to the charm. The building itself is in the historical part of town, not too much changed from when samurai were still walking around. It's definitely not some modern reconstruction, the materials and furnishings are all...

Ryokan Seikanso is definitely the place to stay at if you plan to go to Nara. It is both typical and traditional, the owners are friendly and the location is convenient. The japanese breafast was also very tasty.
