We have been to this hotel with family. The room was cozy and clean. It was noticeable that the old building was refurbished into new style, however, we liked it. Especially, breakfast was more than good. The location is excellent.
The hotel is located in a very good location, safest in the city. Hotel has a very good security, that are very willing to help. Prices are very cheap, much cheaper than in other hotels. The food was delicious, and made out of fresh ingridients.
We stayed at this hotel from 06/01/2021 till 09/01/2021. We wanted to make a present for ourselves for the holidays and decided to stay in the presidential suite for 1 day. We wanted the large jacuzzi overlooking the mountains on the Internet video that we saw about this room and because of this we decided to take this room. In the beginning, everything was fine we arrived by 10 am on January 6, 2021, tired and sleepy early as the flight was at 6 am. We were met by a girl at the reception wearing golden glasses. We waited until the room was vacated, okay not a problem. When I entered the room for the first time, I was unplesantly surprised that all the furniture was somehow old and scratched and dirty. We settled down and slept for an hour and decided to have a bath in our "presidential jacuzzi overlooking the mountains" and there hydromassage function was not working‼ We pressed the buttons and turned all the pumps, but nothing happened. I don't know about the rest of the people who stayed here, but I personally did not like the fact that we paid almost 80,000 tenge for a room where even the promised jacuzzi with hydromassage function does not work. We were very upset and decided to warn the management about this and to fix this situation for us. They agreed to send a man to see us. We probably waited for 1 hour and decided to call the reception about this incident and then I saw the true face of the Kazakhstan hotel. A girl named Aigerim again replied that they would soon send a plumber. I said we can't wait that long and want to be given another room with a working jacuzzi. And the girl from the reception rudely replied that we have to wait only 5-10 minutes. We agreed and decided to wait. People (not a plumber❗), from the management we thought came and, they pushed the buttons and understood that the jacuzzi didn't really work and the guy said that they could call the plumber, but we would have to wait at least 30 minutes. Since we were very tired and annoyed by this situation, we did not want this, we were already in bathrobes and wanted to take a bath in our long-awaited Jacuzzi and asked to change the number. They agreed and they soon gave us another number. We had to pack all our things back and move, okay maybr we wanted wanted it ourselves. But they gave us a suite that is smaller than our presidential suite, where one of the bathroom smelled of urine. We figured that either they were not cleaned thoroughly or problems with the plumbing system. Okay, it was no big deal for us, but here a drum roll, the jacuzzi in this room also did not work! Moreover, it is also a hydromassage function. We didn't want to stay in this room where the toilet stinks of urine and is smaller than the presidential suite. And we called the reception to inform that again that the jacuzzi is not working here and that we want to return to our previous room. Again, the same rude girl from the reception replied that we could no longer move back in because at the moment the pipe had broken and work is underway in our room, although not even 10 minutes had passed and no work with the pipe was being done when we left the presidential suite. We insisted to return and said that we did not want to stay in this room and that we thought that we would be accommodated in another presidential room. The receptionist did not wanna meet us halfway, us who were exhausted sleepy guests who paid for a room with non-working furniture and for disgusting service almost 80,000 tenge. Then we told the reception girl that we left our stuffs in the room.and wanted to pick it up from there and asked to pick it up specifically personally, since we no longer trusted the service at this hotel. Again, instead of meeting us halfway, this incompetent receptionist said that I could not go back to the room as work was being done there. We anyways went to our room for what we paid because we didn’t trust anyone in this hotel and to our surprise there was absolutely no one in our presidential suite. It was just the same when we left 10 minutes ago. Even the water inside the jacuzzi that we didn't drain was there. and there was no work with the pipes and the water was not turned off. We were just lied to and they wanted to shove in our thoat a room with a smelly toilet and a cramped space. We called back to the reception and this time another girl answered, we said that they lied to us and no work was being done there and we demand to return to our number. This time we came across a competent pleasant girl who wanted to really help us and not that careless, rude first receptionist. We with all our belongings dragged back to the presidential suite and took the keys to the reception ourselves, and there, it seems, we met that rude receptionist in glasses with golden frames. But since we were not 100% sure whether it was the same girl, we did not create a situation and, to be honest, there was no strength left for quarrels with the unprofessional staff of this hotel. The keys to the presidential number were returned to us and we went back already exhausted like dogs and angry because of this situation, especially with the rudeness of that receptionist like Aigerim in glasses. They just ruined our day! We didn’t even want to stay in this hotel, but since we had already booked another room for 2 days in this hotel, we could not do anything, as we thought they could charge the amount of the reservation. Then they called us and said that soon the plumber would be there and fix the jacuzzi, but again, they probably waited 30 minutes and we said not to be bothered anymore because we were tired of this hassle and their unprofesdionalism. Then the concierge came to us with a fruit plate, so the hotel management wanted to wash away their guilt. But you cannot bribe us as children with fruits! The next day we asked to be given a free upgrade for a room for 2 consecutive days for the lost nerves, since we had already booked a standard room for 20,000 tenge for these 2 days without any special things in it. We were given one level higher, which is more expensive than our booked room by only 5000 tenge. We pay them 80,000 tenge for a room with their broken furniture, and the next day they give us a room for 25,000 tenge. Exquise me, but our nerves are not worth 5000 tenge! There was no longer the strength to argue with anyone to give a better room, so we left it as it is. Congratulations to the staff of the hotel "Kazakhstan" only your guests can get even more tired because of your service. The staff of this hotel made us , people who book a room for 80,000 tenge to run like dogs here and there. For luggage, for keys. While going for the keys, we even had to ask the Barfly employees to take us down the elevator, since that careless receptionist Aigerim forgot to give us the keys, and the elevator does not work without keys. If this is how you treat people who book your presidential room, you probably spit in the face of people who book the cheapest rooms with you. People come to hotels after a long journey tired to relax without nerves and stress. We, too, as guests of this hotel, arrived exhausted and instead of helping their tired guests, that receptionist with glasses Aigerim was rude and did absolutely everything to make this situation even worse. The next day, the standard + room was the most usual room, nothing to pick on maybe except that the bathrobe was somehow stained and the carpet was dirty. And the floorboards in front of our room creaked like in an old wooden house and when you step on the board you could feel the rotten wood. We vowed to never return here the first day we arrived. Towards the end of our stay, we decided to go ourselves to the office of the hotel management on January 9, 2021 at 12:30 pm. We could not get there before because on the first day we were exhausted by this situation and on the second day we were bus y all day. Well, the office was, of course, closed and no one was there. When asked at the reception, they answered that the management would be here in 2 days. We wanted to say everything we wrote to their faces, so that's why it is a long review. I understand all sorts of things happen like a non-working jacuzzi and forgetting the keys and making guests wait, but it is rude and extremely incompetent to treat tired guests like that to lie to them like a receptionist Aigerim with glasses, this already shows the level of management of the hotel Kazakhstan. We didn't even care that there was a depressing look from the large window of the presidential suite, as the weather was cloudy all the time and the mountains were not visible. I want to draw your attention to the fact that everyone tried to help except that one receptionist, we could have just ignored a non-working Jacuzzi, but that uneducated receptionist pissed us off. She clearly did not undergo any trainings and vould not care less about her work, despite the fact that the second receptionist, who was also wearing glasses, was normal and was helpful. After that, I began to read reviews about this hotel and was shocked to find out that if you leave in the rooms money and jewelry they will be stolen, guests are disturbed by some prostitutes who directly come to their room and offer their services, although no one asked them and stafg of the hotel just like that let then to the rooms of the guests. It's just awful, we felt as if we are in some kind of brothel and not in hotel after these reviews. For the Guests attention , for this money, you could probably have a good time in any other hotel, maybe even in a better room. To the management of this hotel - Maybe before this hotel was worthwhile and famous where the presidents themselves stayed, etc., but from these old times you only have ancient scratched furniture and creaky rotting floors and at this rate you will go down before you know it. There will be build hotels 1000 times better and your hotel will be dust at this time. The staff at this hotel almost ruined our entire stay. I think the management will not even read this review and take any measures, a typical service in Kazakhstan. But I leave this review for potential guests and will post it everywhere on the Internet. A socialist-modernist colossus, built in the 1970s. Concidering what I saw, it havent seen much refurbishment, and some people might say its well past its heyday. As a fan of old soviet architecture i liked it, and the bed made for a good nights sleep.
We stayed in this hotel as a family of three. We booked a suite room which was massive, especially considering the relatively cheap price. Our room was very similar to an apartment, something which you would never seen in European or American hotels. It is a Soviet era hotel so it does need some refurbishment with some worn out furniture. The breakfast was good with a variety of local dishes. Some more conventional Western options would make it better. Overall, considering the incredible value for money, size of the rooms and central location, I would return to this hotel if in Almaty again. Fully recommended.
